That mom not only served disgusting 8 month old ruined the food at the wedding, but she denied perfectly good food (at the time) to people in need. She should be ashamed of herself. She claims she didn't want it to "go to waste" but her actions did exactly that.
She was clearly being cheap and she deserved the backlash she got. And she's lucky no one ate it and got sick because she would've been drowning in lawsuits.
And if the OP paid for the food, her mom stole it.

My grandmother lived through the Great Depression. Even though she's been financially stable for decades, she's still funny about food. Maybe Mom's poor, or has been before and never got out of the starvation mindset.
I'm not saying OP is the AH, I think she did the best she could. But maybe some compassion is warranted here. This is pretty strange behavior, there might be something going on.
A 15 THOUSAND dollar gift just to help someone in a genuine way - those two are probably the nicest people I have ever even heard of - I'm glad they took the money away from that bridezilla and then donated it to charity for some sweet petty revenge

Absolutely! No one is entitled to your money or generosity. Plus treating you like shit when they just perceive that you aren't being as generous as you *could* be? That's disgusting behavior. It wouldn't hurt to remind bridezilla of that!
Yes! They did the right thing by cancelling that check. If those people couldn't afford to pay for fertility treatments, then how the hell do they think they're going to be able to afford raising a child?! Kids are way more expensive than those treatments, especially if the baby is born with congenital issues that can happen to anyone. People this selfish might abandon a baby that isn't perfect. They sound very immature, and not like good parents.
My cousin's son got a girl pregnant so they got married much too young. Sadly, the doctors found that the baby had a serious defect, her brain was outside of her skull. If the baby lived, she would have to live without a cerebellum and would be severely disabled, a vegetable.
This teenage couple had very religious family, so wouldn't consider abortion even though their Christian doctor advised them to terminate. They believed that God would miraculously "fix" their baby just before birth. Any parents who believe in magic are too immature to have a healthy baby, much less one with no brain. I'm not talking about prayer, as I do that too, but only if a cure is possible. Of course that miracle didn't happen even though their family sent lots of money to a TV preacher who promised that God would cure their baby.
After about a month seeing their blind, deaf, deformed daughter in the NICU, the teen couple decided they didn't want to be parents and they moved out of state, leaving this poor baby to be my cousin's responsibility. My cousin is in her 70s now, and has taken care of this now adult, severely disabled person for @ 40 years. It has consumed her life and has wrecked her own health having to do everything for her that a newborn requires, but for 40 years.
When my cousin dies, her granddaughter will go to a nursing home and probably not live long. IMO, that poor girl never had a life, and her selfish parents condemned her to an existence where she can only feel pain. Her selfish parents got divorced after about a year and have never paid a dime for her care or visited her. I asked my sister why doesn't our cousin sue them for support? She told me our cousin thinks they've been "punished" enough. WTF? They just moved on, it's our cousin who's been punished. Oh, and our cousin believes that money she sent to Jimmy Swaggart was justified and well-spent because the girl is still alive. I've seen her and wouldn't call that "life". That money should have been donated to a children's hospital or to brain research where it could have done more than make a rich grifter richer.
Sorry for the rant, I'm just sick of selfish people who don't care who they hurt. I've had a rough time lately because of selfish people so I guess I'm a bit triggered!
It was a lovely gift, giving 15,000 for some people is like giving 100 for another. However, the cousin wasn't entitled to any cash, and nobody owes anybody a thing.

Want to hear a good bride story: One of my friends got married on my birthday, she and i both knew it was my b-d but i didn't make a fuss i was her MOH and happy to be her MOH. Well during the reception it got really weird, really quiet and all of a sudden i hear the Happy Bday song and a small chocolate cake being brought over to me....I couldn't believe it. She even made a little speech that we have been friends from practically birth and how when she planned her wedding and it fell on my b-d how i never made a fuss about it so she wanted me to know how much she appreciate me....Now that is sweet.

One of my brides maids was 8.months pregnant at my wedding. I thought it was incredible nice of HER to even agree! She had to buy a much larger dress than her normal size and have it altered. She had to stand up there for like 15 minutes at the ceremony. She was on her feet for most of the night and was so tired by the end. But she did it! For us! And I will always be grateful for that ❤ (p.s. It's because she's Canadian)
That’s so sweet of you to recognize that about your friend who was pregnant when she was one your brides maids. I’m 28 weeks and I would imagine struggling to get through the demands of being in the bridal party at a wedding. Just saying you both sound very sweet and kind hearted individuals. ❤😊
Just bc your one nationality over another doesn't me that nationality is more kind or caring etc... I know it's just a joke but some ppl may believe its really true. There are a few to many ppl who believe everything they read on the internet. There are also ppl who think that they're better than anyone else such as race, religion, ethnicity, and so on. I nearly cried hearing someone was so generous to give 15k for infertility. That's the most incredible gift you could give someone. So while I can empathize a bit with the bride struggling with infertility, that is simply never how we treat people. Completely unacceptable and OP had no reason to still reward her after that.
Maybe it's for the best for the bridzilla to not procreate and make baby bridezillas.

Yeah, that upset me too. The first sister literally had a plan for that food and her mom stole from her, and by extension underprivileged people, to save her sister money. There are lots of ways to cut corners and save money, but theft shouldn't be one of them.

I was thinking the same damn thing! Like you invite loved ones to your wedding & get mad they didn't buy the biggest most expensive gift. And snatch their "tiny" box out of their hand & KICK THEM OUT. If she does have kids (God forbid) they're 100% going to take after their mother & be bullies. That 15k gift is the absolute nicest, most thoughtful gift in the absolute world. I don't blame the OP for canceling the check. HELL NO. She disrespected her, and she should be so apologetic to the OP. I can't believe the audacity.
The money one got me. My family struggles sometimes due to the fact that I have 6 siblings, and there are things that we enjoy even though they are small. When my parents got me a Walkman for finishing 5th grade, I started using it all the time. They knew that music was everything in my eyes, and so they granted me that. They did the same with all of my other siblings too, so when the bride started insulting them without even checking it, I felt insulted too. Like, have they never only gotten a card with money on their birthday before?
Same! I grew up in a similar situation. We weren't poor by any means, but with 8 kids in my family, there were multiple times growing up where my parents said we would have to choose between getting only 1 nice present or several small, cheaper presents for Christmas and birthdays. I remember one year when my parents got me a smart phone for Christmas. I had had a dumb flip phone for years and it was so hard to get good cell service. I was so thrilled to have the smart phone, even though it was an older model. I remember being truly shocked, because I had figured that a smart phone would be one of those things that I would have to scrape and save for because I knew they were expensive and thought my parents may not be able to afford it.
I honestly can't believe the entitlement of that bride. Just because a gift comes in a small box doesn't mean that the gift is cheap.
That's why you don't have multiple children that you can't afford.

As a public health professional and epidemiologist this had been out for a long time on a buffet table, at who know what temperature? Then frozen with whatever bacteria was growing on it as most can survive freezing. This is a great way to get a lot of people stick and save a little money. Should’ve donated to the soup kitchen.
And unless she had a blast chiller, that much food (possibly still warm) going into the freezer all at once will mean it will take even longer for that food to get to a frozen state....meaning even more time for growth. At what point do her actions become biological warfare... Lol
Yeah, that was also my concern. Lots of people think that freezing kills all bacteria, and thats not really how it works, especially with defrosting home freezers. Perhaps more would be killed with an industrial deep freezer, but I highly doubt that is where it was stored.
She embarrassed her mother, but that's not *her* fault. The mom is at fault for doing something potentially unsafe.
And they could have just asked people to bring different potluck dishes. That's a great way to save money and have food that you know your guests will like. Set up a group chat for the guests so they can work out who will bring what. It's honestly not that difficult.
@@Just1Nora Salmonella, listeria, and E. Coli, the big one we are always having food recalls over are cyro-survivable even in industrial freezers. So it’s best not save food like that in a freezer. The donation would have been best as they would have reheated it under a controlled temperature and then served it.

A friend of mine had gone overseas to a wedding. The reception was at the bride’s mother’s house. Just as the food was going round (they were finger foods, prepared by the mother) one of the daughters came round and whispered to the guests not to eat the prawn balls… Apparently, the mother had been getting the food ready for three days and put the prawn-balls IN THE KITCHEN CUPBOARD on the first day…
The last pettiness has me really satisfied and happy. It’s great they are kind and generous people but also able to stand their ground and not be pushed around by peoples entitlement.
The last story, did anyone else catch this? She ripped the "small gift" box out of her hand while simultaneously kicking them out, and THEN, had the audacity to only text an "apology", not even bothered enough to call and profusely apologize. Nope, just texted it. 🙄
Yep. I noticed that. That type of behavior really required a face-to-face apology from both the bride and groom, if they were still in town.
And she didn't contact them until she found out the check had been canceled.

My sister in law was very pregnant and gave birth to my niece three days after my wedding day. Since it was in a different city and she would have had to be in the car for about 6 hours, I told my brother that it would be absolutely fine if he feels like he needs to be with his wife and I wouldn't feel hurt. The way he managed it was by coming to the wedding by himself and my SIL was with us the entire time on Zoom, her sister was with her just in case she needed to go to the hospital. My brother attended and drove back home a few hours after the wedding was over. we celebrated my niece a couple of weeks later and we had an intimate gathering and I was able to catch up on everything with my SIL. If I was able to postpone, I would've, if it was safe for her to attend, she would've. Life should not be this complicated FFS.

The story with wanting to change their name reminded me so much of my aunt. She and my mom are both named Doris, and for literally SIXTY YEARS she has had it out for my mom for having the same name. I kid you not, a few years ago there was a wedding and my aunt sat behind my mom for three hours during the reception, staring murder daggers at her. Like, how can she help it if Doris was a popular name in the freaking 1940's?!
Lol. I was just talking to my daughter the other day about the fact that her brother has 4 friends named Jake/Jacob, 2 Cody, 2 Adam. The more popular a name is during a period of time, the more likely it is that you'll be acquainted with multiple people with that name.

The first story is horrifying!!! I've worked in kitchens for years and yeah, some foods are fine if you freeze them for that long, but freezing PREPARED food for that long is.... so ick. Also like you said, cooking for a small-ish wedding saves a ton of money! My sister and her husband did that. Each part of the family picked a dish to prepare and we ended up with a fantastic dinner and a few hundred more bucks to go to registry gifts and such. You can be conscious of your money without endangering people lmao
I used to do catering. In my state, if the food had been served on a buffet line, we were forced to throw out any remaining food off the buffet line, even if the people who ordered the catering wanted the buffet food afterwards. If it hadn't been served (meaning there was an extra tray or two), and proper food safety guidelines followed, the food could be taken home by the party organizers or donated to a food shelter. It's to reduce liability because food on buffet lines is exposed to more bacteria from guests. That's why sometimes half-filled trays are replaced after certain periods of time, so people don't get sick!
And unless she had a massive blast chiller.....all that food going into one freezer at once meant it spent even more time in the danger zone, cuz all that food will "help" keep each other warm.

Also, dinner is usually served hours before the end of a wedding reception. Did mom leave early to freeze the leftovers? Was there a big enough cooler/freezer at the venue? Several catering companies in my town have heated and refrigerated cabinets that they bring from off site and just plug in at the venue. Did they let her use them? Did she just leave the leftovers in her car for the night? How far does she live from the venue, with food being room temperature the whole time? Almost certainly she didn't follow reheating or thawing procedures. Gross.

I came to comment the same thing! Where I live we have regulations preventing the donation of any "left over" buffet due to the nature and conditions of serving a buffet its self, re: temperatures and bacterium. As much as I would LOVE to donate all the beautiful left overs, it's just far too risky to those who are already vulnerable.

The 15k people are not a-holes. My mother always taught me you be just as grateful for a pair of socks as you are for a diamond ring. I stand by that. Because no one owes you anything. My friend is filthy rich. For my birthday she got me flowers. She secretly called my mom and tried to figure out what my favorite flower was so she could get me a bouquet. It was so fricking thoughtful. I loved those flowers and thought it was so sweet. Someone else’s bank account does not dictate what they should give you. Be happy they thought of you at all and be grateful for their presence if they bring positivity to your life.

My absolute favorite gift has always been this crocheted blanket that a secret santa gave me in shades of my favorite color. 😍 this was like 15 years ago so yarn wasn't that expensive but to me the time they spent on it means WORLDS to me and gives it a much greater value than any other gifts I have gotten.
100% agree, a thoughtful gift is worth a lot more than an expensive gift (and the dumb-ass bridezilla from the video lost out on a gift that was both by being such an ahole idiot)

I absolutely love this. It's rarely the price tag, but the thought behind it that counts. That your friend went into cahoots with your mom to figure out your favourite flower(s) shows how much she cares. I can't help but wonder if you are also (like me) one of those people who absolutely LOVE receiving flowers. Sure, they may not last a long time, but everytime we see them it's a burst of happpiness and reminder of who got them for us. I mean, I'll accept just about any type of flower, but someone who goes out of their way to get one I love? Priceless

Thanksgiving 1977, thanks to my mother's questionable food handling, my entire extended family ended up sick for days, a few in the hospital, from salmonella AND botulism. I was only 11 but had sense enought to tell her that homecanned food should not fizz when you opened it. She tossed them out just didn't clean behind herself properly, so thankfully nobody died. She also poured gravy over some undercooked turkey because some people had to leave early and dinner needed to be on the table. So, when the holidays rolled around one of us would ask, "Hey Mom, did you invite Sam and Ella this year?". She was never amused. The upside? I learned to cook very well, even working as an inhome private chef fora. few years up until the rona. Then everyone discovered those meal prep kits.
I worked in deli dept of a supermarket years ago. Coworkers and I noticed unopened deli turkey wrapper puffed out. Told manager it was probably bad and she was like “it’s the natural gasses”. 😳 yeah from bacteria. We were night crew and kept it hidden so nobody would order it then chucked it and got new one. My dad was retired USDA packing plant inspector and nearly had a cow (pun intended) when I told him.
Regarding the last bride, I would have not only canceled the check, but sent them a gift from the registry just to be extra petty 😂

Also important to note: Freezing food does NOT pause the freshness. We tried with eggs. We cooked up a whole bunch, divided them into 7 different bags and froze them. The idea was to save time cooking breakfast. By the time we go to the 5th bag they had gone rancid. Keep in mind these were frozen IMMEDIATELY after cooking and they didn't even last a week in the freezer. I can't even imagine how rank 8 month old buffet food would be. 1st story lady just stopped a war crime.
It was biological warfare at that point. Because unless she had an industrial/commercial blast chiller then that amount of food going into the freezer (possibly still warm from the buffet) would "help" keep each other warm, and it could have taken days or even weeks for the centers to finally freeze.... like you said literally a crime.
how odd...ive frozen cooked eggs before (scrambled , not fried or boiled) and have had them last a month . i did cool them down first by putting in the fridge prior to freezing so maybe that was the diffrence . it is better for your fridge and freezer not to put piping hot food in either ...makes it work harder to cool.
Yep, I’ve kept fresh (butcher’s made, not processed) sausages in the freezer drawer for over 6 months and they went rank… :/

For meats, pork only us good for a month or so. Beef bit longer. I've had beef in vacuum and after a year still edible. Moose and deer can be still ok after two years in vacuum.
For cooked food i generally don't even try more than few months. But it has to be frozen asap and tbh unless it's vacuum bag, the air is going to get in.
Some food freezes well and some shouldn't be frozen at all, but 8month is actually pushing it for lots of ingredients. I'd be doubtful mom knew exactly what would keep as long and how to package, freeze and defrost it properly.
Also, side note, what kind of freezer does this woman own, that she just casually has the whole meal for a wedding stored in there? Even for a small wedding of 25 people or so, that would be a lot of food.
Every year my aunt sends me a card and check for my birthday (im 42 at this point) lol. Every year she texts me to apologize that it's going to be late cause she didn't get it into the mail until late. Every year I thank her and tell her please don't stress and that I love her. The check is nice and it's always appreciative regardless of the amount but I am more thankful to get a card for my birthday telling me how much im loved. As soon as I get it, I text her with an I love you and usually say something nice about the card first (she always gets the best unique cards) and then I also thank her for the check and let her know how much its appreciated. Why do people have to be so rude and entitled?

When I was a bride Decades ago, I and my husband didn't care if any of our guests brought a gift or not, we just wanted them there and to have a great time! My Mom and Dad taught me to be grateful.
Hard same. I told the bridal party to not worry about gifts. I paid for their nails, and offered to pay for their dresses, and we also paid for tux rental (it was all budgeted for). We expected nothing but their presence. Everything on our list was less than $50, many less than $25. Except one very nice skillet I wanted/needed which was less than $75. Not everyone had the money, and we decided we’d rather have loved ones about without putting financial strain on them
We did a similar thing too, we had our home together, so we just said if you want to give us anything, please donate to an animal charity as a gift, we would be very happy with that

I am engaged now and I don’t think I will even make a wedding registry. If people want to give me a present, that’s nice of course, but I’m not going to ask for anything. A number of my friends will need to travel to attend so them making the effort to be there, take a hotel etc, is already something I am grateful for and I will have nice photos to remember them being there.

In relation to the first story: I had 50 people at our wedding and it cost $500 to feed them all. I hired an amazing taco truck to cater dinner all you could eat! It was amazing. People loved it.
My sister 7 months pregnant was my matron of honor at my wedding. She was absolutely beautiful in her one of a kind maturity dress. I never had a thought that she would take the spot like from me. I even helped her with her hair & her dress while I did all my own hair & makeup. I also didn’t care if all eyes were not on me at all times. The only thing I needed that day was for my groom to say yes & for someone to hold my dress up while I pee’d. Lol!

I'm horribly allergic to certain molds and the amount of family that say just pick the mold off and eat it kill me 🤦♀️ esp on bread. The spores go all throughout the bread even if only one slice has mold spots. I'm allergic to penicillin the most. Like not even allowed to eat blue cheese and some salmumi bad.
Good point! And all hard cheeses start out with mold on the outside before being trimmed and packaged, so it was "moldy" long before it was bought. Brie and Camembert still have the "bloomy rinds" when bought.

I'm also allergic to penicillin but can eat blue cheese without a problem. I love it actually. It's a slightly different strain to the one used for the antibiotics so it doesn't seem to affect me like the antibiotics do

I never understand people getting upset by their Bridesmaids or MOH getting pregnant. One of my Bridesmaids will likely be about to pop on my wedding and we laughed how memorable my wedding would be if she went into labor there (the venue is super close to a hospital too lol) idk maybe I'm too chill but I really don't see how anyone could be upset by something like that. It might be my fiancé and I's day but it wouldn't feel like it without those we love there with us.
You're not too chill my dear, but I should tell you that people who say those kinds of things are narcissistic and only care about being the center of attention on -ahem- "My WeDdInG dAy", while still forgetting that at least half of the experience of the wedding isn't being fawned over for an entire day, but enjoying the celebration of both the person you love, and the massive family you two just built.
I believe these issues arise because underneath the friendly relations are old hurts, petty grievances, jealousies and a lot of insequrities, and people who do not communicate their feelings properly and let the hurts fester. So the wedding ends up being the boiling point were all is aired.

The best wedding I have ever been too was for a friend. They rented out a small pavilion at a park, they hired a taco truck got a keg of beer from their favorite brewery. The bride made her wedding cakes (there were 5) they weren’t fancy, but boy were they delicious. Their wedding favors was a cookbook with the cake recipes inside. They’ve been married for 10 years and I still remember everything about it. Can’t really say that about the other ones I’ve been to since.
My one niece had a very small wedding and instead of a big cake as her and her soon to be hubby couldn't decide which cake they like best-they had small cakes in every flavor on each table with a note to not cut until the right time.
They don't drink either so of course quite a few families didn't bother to go and when it was time to cut the cakes every table got to cut their own to see what flavors we had. There were like 2 to 3 on each table.
By this time there were lots of empty tables so my neice and some of us auntys went around and we all sampled the different cakes like little birds lol. It was very unique and fun and quite a few of us went home with whole uncut little cakes. They were frosted identical on the outside tho.
But inside were banana spice and chocolate and white with strawberries and carrot cake and several other totally yummy types.
My favorite was the spice cake with banana filling. I'd never had it before and it was the best.
That wedding sounds perfect! I'm usually uncomfortable at weddings, I'm kind of a tomboy and feel weird wearing dresses, and when I'm inside a church I expect to be hit with thunder bolts! Not really, but those gruesome Catholic crucifixes always freak me out even though the sanctuaries are beautiful.

Unpopular opinion time: If the snotty friend cannot afford her own infertility treatment then a) she cannot afford a child and b) it is NO ONE else’s responsibility to pay for them! This was a beautiful gesture that was not appreciated until she found out what it was exactly but she knew it was a gift from a friend and should have accepted it as such. Some people’s children? My sister's due date was around my wedding date. I didn't care. She didn't want to be pregnant during and risk it, so she chose to induce a week before and travel 6 hours with a newborn and a 3-year-old. All power to her.
There are lots of ways to pay for food at a wedding. My aunt had a big wedding planned with 350 people. Every weekend and on some holidays she sang for three years at a five-star restaurant with the arrangement that the restaurant would cater her wedding. I was shocked and amazed. They had the whole banquet room up set up beautifully with waitstaff. They served about $5,000 worth of food and hors d’oeuvres. They also cleaned up the reception and packed it away. So if there is a will there is away. No need to eat rotten, mishandled food.
The food, if kept frozen, would not be rotten or mishandled. Yeah its kinda weird to reheat food for a wedding, but nothing dangerous about it

Most reputable catering companies will serve dishes in warming trays to ensure the food doesn't get down to the danger zone and get people sick. Again, anytime you eat bbq at a restaurant know that longer cooked items like brisket have been sitting in warming drawers for 12hr plus. The original bride was going to drop the leftovers off to a soup kitchen or whatever she said, if it was good enough for them to still eat it, I'm assuming it was properly managed. Next if the mother vacuum sealed it, yeah it would still be edible 8 months later, probably dry though, so reheating it would be perfectly fine and you'd be in no danger of getting sick, minus very few exceptions but it would smell upon thawing. People kill me lol they are mortified about saving and reheating food, but they were perfectly happy giving this food that was apparently inedible due to the length of time it set, to the poor?!?

I don’t want botulism, I would never risk it and I would want to know. You may not. But I bet most guests were happy to know. OP made the correct and safe decision.

There are sooo many ways you can save money on food at a wedding, it doesn’t have to cost you thousands. As we come from a multicultural family and have multicultural friends we asked people to bring something typical from their country to share. We made a list beforehand writing down what everyone would bring, made cute labels with warnings for possible allergies. A lot of people showed up in traditional clothing (we encouraged them to do so) and overall it was a bomb and colorful party! We have been married for almost 6 years and people still tell us they loved the wedding and that it remains one of their favorite ones
Damn, the check story one was the pique when it comes to ungrateful gifts situations. Like, why would you make a big deal about what gifts are worth for you and then bad mouth the person who gifted it to you even without knowing the gift/gift's purpose? The men in my family have a genetic thing that they get an immune response to severe food poisoning. They got reactive arthritis when we all got food poisoning after moving overseas. They got very ill and my little brother couldn’t walk for months. They could regress anytime if they get food poisoning. My son could have it too, we’ve never had him tested for it. Food poisoning is serious and I know that intimately.

What's bad is the bride could have probably got the $15k if she had checked herself immediately. Called and genuinely apologized, thrown something in there about being stressed between the wedding planning and trying to get pregnant. And then dropped it. When the check didn't cash, not say a word. Not even tell family that the check didn't cash, and make a point of telling family how kind they couple is. By the time the wedding came around, these nice people probably would have given her a new check. Shot herself twice.
People that are a-holes don't tend to be aware of how awful they are so they can be subtle, if she had other opportunity to f-it up, she would do it 3 times

I just recently helped my two daughters study for and obtain their food handler's license for our state (they both passed with flying colors.) I can tell you there's no way to know if that food was handled promptly at safe times and temps for hot and cold foods. A restaurant would never. And the mom took it away from a shelter or food kitchen, double ick! What a gross person she is in all ways.
I totally agree. I’ve worked in several restaurants and the food is monitored if it’s a buffet and has a shelf life and has to be thrown away after a certain amount of time. Food also shouldn’t be refrozen. Cuz, YUCK!

Had 24 stomach flu a lot as a child in my family. Now that I'm an adult, I don't experience it. Healthcare professionals say there isn't a 24 stomach flu bug, it's just food poisoning. 😮

As someone who used to run a movie theatre and also did grocery pickup, if anything that’s meant to be kept refrigerated is out more than 30 minutes, I would start questioning it, especially if it came straight from refrigeration. With frozen products, you’re probably fine if it’s being cooked immediately after thawing, but DO NOT refrigerate or freeze once it’s reached room temperature. I know most of us have probably eaten “cold” pizza, but that’s also why so many of us have tummy troubles if we don’t normally have them already.
I learned the generosity problem a long time ago. Had a friend who let me pay for everything, get her gifts, etc. She was someone who always had a sob story. After 2 years of friendship, she stopped talking to me the moment I told her I can't bring a friend to her house. I basically helped her through mental episodes, breakups, got her things because I wanted her to know I care for her, and this girl ended up spinning the biggest webs of lies about me and stopped talking to me the moment I had no more use in her eyes.
So, don't be like me people lol
Happened to me multiple times before I got wise to this dynamic. People will actually resent you for being generous and trying to help, no matter how discreet and loving you are about it. I had friends that I considered sisters just dump me like trash when I could no longer provide due to illness and losing our business during the financial crash.
I don't think people shouldn't be like you. Yes, your kindness and generosity was taken advantage of, but those traits are a blessing and I wish more people in this world would have your level of compassion. We all need to be careful of bad actors in the world, but be proud of how wonderful you are. ❤

I had something similiar happen to me. Somehow I knew about her problems including financial issues within days of the friendship. I helped her out emotionally and financially only for her to become very busy for an entire year during which she finds other friends, is able to better her financial situation and slowly starts ghosting me. That is when I understood I was filling an emotional/psychological/financial hole in this individual's life. I had no idea who she truly was either, and needless to say, I don't understand such people. But yes, sadly, they exist.
I'm a bit worried that one of my besties is like that. I live on SSDI (social security disability income) and am poor, but probably not as poor as them. They don't usually outright ask me for things, though they have a few times with the promise to pay me back that never happened. They do however give me those leading messages about how they need art supplies for their mental health but they don't have the money for them, and yeah, I usually, but not always, get them. They are always grateful, but it feels like a one way street sometimes. (Not that I expect physical things from them, but you know what I mean) They do offer emotional support, but it's still usually more take than give from them.
Last week my cousin got married. Her mom wore white, her sister (MOH) was pregnant and due like 3 days after the wedding, the waiting staff were slow and snappy, bride got drunk around 3 p.m. and threw up (elegantly and with a pleasant smile and no fuss). It could have been a disaster, hadn't the bride been the sweetest, most laid back person of us all. Also, she was so nice that she had organized a surprise congratulation on our grandma's 85th birthday right after the toast... Just stop insisting it is "your day and everything must be perfect", instead learn from my cousin.
Once you hit adulthood, the smaller gift boxes usually contain the more expensive gifts… cray cray bride and groom.
I had two pregnant bridesmaids in my wedding. I grew up with a lot of the same friends I’ve had for years. One of them I even worked with at the time. She told me at work and it was about a week before we went bridesmaid dress shopping. I was so happy for her. That night I talked to another friend that was in our wedding and teased her and said you aren’t going to tell me you are pregnant and said I am. I was actually super happy and thrilled for both of them. Couldn’t care less about my dresses. These are my friends who are bringing life into the world. Well they ended up being due just a few weeks from each other. The bridesmaids and I picked out a really pretty and a-line waist that made it easy for everyone to have alterations done. Our seamstress did all of our alterations at her home. She kept our shoes there as well for days when we had to try on our dresses. She was so cleaver. Both girls had their dresses hemmed from the middle. Meaning she took it up instead of down to give them more room in the belly and still be the correct length. They took a super cute baby bump pic side bump to bump for me. Now their babies are all grown up. Both have been married in the last couple of years themselves and one is a mama now herself.
Yeah, that defrosting food thing is super gross. We had Indian food at our wedding (my husband spent a bunch of time in Pakistan on the India border as a child) and it cost us like $500 to feed 60 people. It doesn't have to cost a fortune

I'm "economically disadvantaged" and get $251 a month from EBT to buy food for myself and my adult disabled son. That doesn't go far, so one of my favorite places to shop is a store owned by a sweet couple from Pakistan I've known for over 16 years now where I met them when they started their business at a local swap-meet. Now they have a small store that started out selling "unclaimed freight" type items including food that's perfectly good but discontinued or slightly out of date.
Few years ago, they started selling food items imported from India and Pakistan, and I couldn't be happier! Freshest spices at lower prices and larger quantities than grocery stores and even sell Ayurvedic herbs. The ashwagandha I buy there has really helped me deal with chronic depression, and the powdered aloe vera and tulsi (holy basil) are great used in teas for things like anxiety and stomach issues.
Little by little, I'm learning how to make Indian dishes with ingredients I find there by watching RUclips chefs of Indian cuisine. It's fun, economical, and delicious!
I really enjoy talking with Mrs. Chand when I go there, such a lovely, kind person. She and her husband donate a lot of food to local homeless and welcome them at their store when most shops run them off. Homeless folks buy food with EBT also, and I've noticed that the Chands often give them discounts and extras while treating them with dignity.
I've tried telling neighbors about their store, but they tell me they'll never shop there and give horrible racist reasons why. I would trade every one of my neighbors for people like the Chands!

I have a food safety management certificate i got when i managed a fastfood restaurant. Heres the biggest rule about food from catering:
If it has been sitting out for 4 hours, it absolutely must be thrown out! No exceptions. After 4 hours the bacteria levels in the food grows high enough to make you sick.
The first story is scary from a health perspective. Imagine someone has stomach issues or is pregnant but doesn't know yet. A friend of mine part timed at a buffet style restaurant and they were allowed to take leftover home only before they were put out due to the possible health risks.
The last story is wild too though and somehow I feel like if the woman made a proper effort to apologize to OP they would've been able to repair the trouble their behaviour cost but no they had to go tattle on OP with a version that's most likely different from the truth.
Yes about the food. I get sick easily just looking at my food wrong will give me food poisoning. I know it’s just me, my family are normally fine.
My MOH was 8 months pregnant at the wedding. She basically planned everything for the wedding. She is amazing. I told her just get whatever dress is comfortable. She could have worn sweats and i would have been 100% fine with it. Lol she did end up accidentally wearing her flip flops down the aisle and she was so upset but we laugh about it now. 😂❤
We saved on decor in favor of food. The food was some of the best everyone ever had and even 2.5 years later all who attended are still raving about it. The food and DJ. Food, wine, love and music. Who could ask for more? The most expensive feature was the venue which was a lodge next to the river, with a stunning reception hall, tall ceiling, wooden beams. Our wedding was LOTF meets Celtic. It was perfect. ♥💜

If you need a cheap meal for a wedding, make it a potluck. My husband's uncle had this at his wedding and it was great! They provided the meat and everyone else just brought whatever their hearts desired

@@faithgoga3983 it's where everyone brings a dish and you can assign things to people or they could bring anything they want. We do this for church meals. Some people are told to bring salad and some are told to bring a dessert and so on.

I worked in a flower shop for years. A woman I knew was getting married and asked me to do the flowers. I was a single mom and giving her a break on the price I agreed to do the flowers, if she paid materials in addition separately, for $1k which still would have been great boost for my mini family. Everyone wins, right? I worked hard on the planning and execution and probably ended up working for the equivalent of $10 an hour, and I only got two hours of sleep the night before the wedding to make sure everything looked absolutely flawless and perfect.
You know what’s coming, right? When I asked her about payment, she blinked at me and said she thought I was doing it for free as a gift. Her parents who paid for the wedding anyway we’re upper middle class and didn’t require charity.
Yes, I could spend a small fortune on babysitting and work myself sick for someone I barely knew for free.
Moral of the story is: always get everything in writing. No matter how casual things seem or how close you are to the person, always always always get it in writing.
I had nothing in writing to back me up so I couldn’t even take her to small claims court.
I paid for this lesson but it helps if others can learn from it.

I wouldn't have given her the flowers. Since you would have lost that money anyway, I would have donated them to some church or charity or anything but give them to the entitled bride (she didn't have anything in writing as well): you wanna play dirty? Two can play that game!

First flag for the last one went off as soon as you read that all guests were required to get her something off her registry and nothing was cheaper than $150. Im glad the lady canceled the check and gave it to a charity instead.

Was watching this on my phone with my husband in the room. He just so happens to work in the food industry. He said the food that mother "saved" would've absolutely given people food poisoning. Aside from how long it's been sitting out, a good portion of it was probable already defrosted prior to the original wedding. Refreezing it immediately opens it up to frost bite along with whatever other bacteria grew while it was sitting out and transferred while the mother was storing it with most likely bare hands.
Plus, and your husband cab verify this as well....unless she had an industrial/commercial blast chiller....that volume of food (possibly warm even) going into the freezer is not going to freeze up at safe speeds either, as they will "help" keep each other warm. The centers could take days or even weeks to fully freeze. Especially if shoved in a tiny refrigerator freezer.

Watching the 15k check part made me laugh at how different we can be. I broke my ankle 15 days ago, I cannot step on it. I live alone and today I arrived from work starving thinking about how tired I was to make lunch...My neigbourgh gave me a lunch box my dad has left at lunch time for me... It was barely warm and I don't have a microwave, so first I sent a thank you message to my dad and now I'm grateful eating my cold but unexpected and well appreciated lunch.

I remember a sad story where a mother inadvertently killed two of her kids by serving them leftover potato salad, that was initially brought to an outdoor picnic in hot weather. She took it home, put it in the fridge and served it to the family the next day. They were all severely sick and lost two members. So yeah, there could have been serious consequences for serving re-frozen food from previous wedding. And it’s just so gross and tacky. Basically telling her daughter she wasn’t worth the money to be that cheap!
