I'm a professional seamstress / tailor, so far I've worked on or altered around 10 bridesmaids dresses and 2 bridal gowns (some fancier than others, some with special requirements like a opening to breastfeed)... I'd NEVER ask a TEENAGER to do something like that! The fabrics are trickier than most "usual" ones and depending on dressstyle she will get lost in layers and layers of fabric.
    Bride is Absolute insane!!

I'm not a professional and neither was my mom (but my mom was very talented). I was the maid of honor for a very good friend. The problem I had was that the bride's sister was angry that she wasn't the maid of honor. During most of the planning of the wedding I was working on my Master's degree in Scotland (from the states) and the dresses the attendants were limited in the sizes both myself and her sister are larger figured and at the place where dresses were purchased there was only one size 16. The sister normally wore a 14 (which they carried more of). I arrived back in the states 3 weeks before wedding and the bride met me at airport we went to store to pickup my dress (this took place in Montana and my family home was 250 miles from airport). Well the dress was gone! Her sister had come in months before and took my dress (out of spite). They tried the 14 but style and fabric of dress allowed no wig room and began to tear when they tried zipping it up. What we ended up doing was I drew the pattern of the dress and got a swatch of fabric then purchased fabric as close as we could get and then flew by very small plane home (all done in 2 hr layover). My mom was able to design the pattern and complete the dress in about a week and a half. My dress was a bit different and darker but the bride was okay with that considering I was the maid of honor (one out of 12 attendants. Yes is was a big over the top wedding. Over 200 guests) and in a lot of weddings the maid of honor is in a little different dress. BTW the bride paid for the dresses and shoes, the store refunded the price of the unused dress ($500 in 1986 this was the biggest reason I didn't want it ruined. And I would have never paid that much for a dress ever especially at that time).

I have been sewing since age 8. And I have altered 2 wedding dresses, one from a 12 to a 2. I could have sewn a dress from scratch faster. Had to remove beading and lace, recut, sew together and resew beading. Looked great.
The second was ordered online from China and was just strange. Managed to fix the issues.
I have made several brides maids dresses and flower girl dresses.
People have no idea how complicated things can get or how difficult it is to sew with fine and slippery fabrics.. Especially with alterations.
Can not imagine asking a teen without any sewing knowledge to do it. As a teen I could have, but I sewed most of my own cloths , including a bridesmaid dress.

I had kind of the opposite problem when I got married, when my SIL insisted on making baskets of flowers for my bridesmaids to carry down the aisle. I repeat: the baskets were HER idea, not mine. She liked being crafty and it was her idea of how to help out with the wedding. I thought it was a really nice thing for her to offer to do.
To make a long story short the baskets came out differently than how she had described them (she was in another state and this was way before the internet or even email), so they didn't fit with the rest of the decorations. She had already been paid for the materials and shipping so she wasn't out any money. I called her to let her know the baskets were lovely and that we were going to use them as bridesmaids gifts instead of having them carried down the aisle. She went bat-guano crazy, insisting that I was being completely rude and insensitive after all her hard work. I apologized for hurting her feelings, even though I didn't think I'd done anything wrong. We both agreed that family was more important than anything and because of that it was best to just move on and forget anything had happened and just enjoy the wedding.
Three days later I got a SEVEN PAGE letter from her in the mail, chewing me out all over again.
I'm sure everyone will be shocked to learn that her marriage with my brother didn't last. You can probably guess all the reasons why.

Had a friend many years ago who was literally a pastry chef. She did a wedding cake for a friend. The bride wanted a pound cake, 2 tiers, made to look like a waterfall. My friend made it best she could. Everything from scratch. A few days after the wedding the bride complained that people didn't like the cake because it tasted like flour or like sugar. It's a pound cake....as in equal parts flour and sugar....1 pound each. We just laughed at her because she got exactly what she wanted but was too dumb to know what it actually was

We'd be like "what do they want us to do, build them a room on the spot, lmao!" Yeah, not happening. I work as an ER nurse. The number of time, patients sometimes but generally family members, have gotten in my face to scream and demanded a room for them/family is so ridiculously high. I understand being in the ER sucks, but I always explain to my patients/family that the hospital is completely full and we have to wait for a patient to be discharged. There are simply NOT one room/bed available. I’ve had them (pre-COVID bc we finally locked down and take security more seriously now), go upstairs to the floors and search for open beds themselves. I started making comments such as, “Don’t you think I’d send you upstairs if I could, so I would have less patients?” If that didn’t work, I resorted to “I know you want a bed, so give me a few minute so I can go upstairs and roll some Grandma out the bed and onto the floor for you.” Mind you, in all the years and complaints, I can not think of any one truly super-sick patient or a dying patient and their family EVER complaining.

@@kiraeckard7625 Eloping isn't all that bad of an idea 😂 However, if you're having a fairly small wedding, there are different ways to cut expenses. We planned everything within a month as my husband lived overseas so time & money was an issue. My dress & my bridesmaids' were the only thing done prior to his arrival. We did our own invitations. Bought these packs of greeting cards, you design and print. However, if you don't have a quality printer, you can take it to a place like Kinkos or Staples, they can print for you but I think it'll still be less expensive than the fancy wedding invitations (of course this depends on how many you're inviting). We didn't have a church wedding, since it was my 2nd, so we got married at the County Exec Bldg in our city, which was beautiful because it had marble floors, a gorgeous staircase & we didn't pay for any decor just the wedding officiant. My bridesmaids bought their dresses at one of the big Department stores instead of a bridal shop. My cousin who was going to college in a city an hour from us, went & bought the same dress for half the price, so my friends returned their dresses & I drove them out to that mall, they got their dresses for under $50. The bride complaining about $2800 for 10 hours at a venue is insane!!! We just dropped $4500 on our oldest daughter venue because I couldn’t believe is was only $4500 on a Saturday, during the fall!! I’m still shocked at the price, I would’ve paid twice as much for this venue, it has a stunning view. They have a huge outdoor stone fireplace, a silo bar, a badass groom’s room and the brides suite is just perfection!!! She also has a room full of decor items, some she bought and a lot left by brides. I am only buying greenery and candles because of the options she has to decorate the tables! Most of the venues in western NC start around $7000 and that is literally just the venue. Since we are saving so much on the venue & decor, we can splurge a little on the dress❤️
Thankfully, we were extremely blessed to have 2 wedding photographers in the familly that offered their services for free (but they will be receiving a very nice tip). Then the grooms mother has a close friend that is a DJ and he had connections to a couple of bartenders, and she paid for it! We set a $20,000 limit, but at this rate, I think we will stay around 10k! So we will gift the remaining “wedding fund” for them to put towards their “house fund”!!
So far she hasn’t been a bridezilla, but the wedding is in October, so we shall see, lol.. She wants to do a taco bar and wants a cheese cake because she doesn’t like cake.. I didn’t want to deal with the wedding planning, setting things up, making calls and deposits. I have SERIOUS issues making choices, and that’s why the wedding had already been put off for nearly 4 years. My SIL’s wife is a big planner-she puts together events all the time. We didn’t ask, she offered. I was so excited! Once I connected her to my family members that were being a part of the ceremony, give the approval for the venue and alternative arrangements (weather) and answered a few simple questions (like decoration themes-purple + lace in my case, general idea about food likes and cake choices) and then I did pretty much NOTHING. All I had to do was dress myself, make sure my hubby had the rings and documents needed, have a little interview with the officiant and then i was DONE. I just let the SIL’s wife run the show-and I think she had a lot of fun planning all the arrangements, especially with the floral decorations! I had boxes upon boxes coming in from Etsy. I was told i could look, but i thought it was better to be surprised so I wouldn’t be bothered with thoughts of “what if we changed…”
Even still, I managed to drop like 10 lbs without even trying after my last dress fitting. I have really bad social anxiety even with family, and being the center of the attention is essentially the opposite of how I’ve been my entire life. No thank you! It’s another reason why i pushed it off for so long. It was nice not having to deal with anything. Things came out beautiful! I was happy quite happy. I can’t imagine dealing with one of these women! I know my sister had issues with her wedding (MIL was being a little controlling over some choices.) She gave in because she didn’t care THAT much and it was just easier to for her to adjust.

She called me 1 week before the wedding because she "forgot" (in truth, we ALL know she hated the bride and this was her way of doing something to sabatoge the wedding) and asked for "a plain chocolate cake would be okay" (bride is allergic to chocolate and she knew this - I had only met the bride ONCE and I knew this!!!) Imagine her shock when I showed up at the reception with a spectacular wedding cake! Because while I can bake, I also have a dear friend who is a retired professional cake decorator. We both put our heads together and created a cake that looked like part of a birch tree with bride and groom's initials "carved" into the bark, fondant mushrooms and flowers, grass, branches, etc and we found little glass fairies at a floral shop and used those as the "Bride" and "Groom" on the top (they are an outdoorsy couple and the whole wedding theme was "outdoors and nature") and it was vanilla with lemon curd filling (Bride's favourite) and we wrapped fairy lights around it for a little added "oomph" that made it look like fireflies flittering about. Aunt was FURIOUS with me and screamed "I asked for CHOCOLATE!!!" Bride and Groom loved it and THAT is what counts!!! 18 years later and Aunt is still pissed off with me. But Bride and Groom still talk about the surprise wedding cake!!!! Friend and I have put our heads together for cakes a few times since for weddings and birthdays for friends and family but that first one was the best because it made the Bride and Groom so happy while pissing off the nasty aunt.

And really back in the day it should have been delivered in time for the Bridal Tea when all the presents would have been displayed with name cards as to the giver. And the thank-you’d would have been sent before the 1-3 month long honeymoon. (There’s an example in the Movie The Age of Innocence before Archer and May’s wedding)

I used to bake cakes and cupcakes out of my house. I was known for tasty scratch made home style cakes and cupcakes. The food I made was attractive, but my decorating skills are basic at best. About 8 years ago, I sold my cupcakes for $13.00 per dozen (basic swirl icing). One day, I received a call from someone who had eaten my cake wanting me to do cupcakes for her wedding. I said ok, send me a pic of what you have in mind. She sent me a pinterest perfect cupcake tower with an assortment of individualy made gumpaste flowers decorating each cupcake. I told her that was beautiful, but beyond my skill as a decorator. She then argued with me about how she wanted me to make her cupcakes. I had to be very assertive with her to convince her that what I was capable of was faaaar below what she wanted and I would not be willing to make her cupcakes when she wouldn't like the appearance. I'm sure she would have loved her over the top ask for $13.00 per dozen.
A co worker asked me to do cupcakes for his wedding. We agreed to something I knew I could do well. He mentioned a tasting as his wife had never had my cake. I told him if he wanted a tasting to go to a real bakery...lol. He and his wife had appropriate expectations of my skill, and we were all happy. His 5th wedding anniversary was last week, and he remarked how happy they were with their cupcakes.

So if we take an average of 5 hours each that's 105 hours on top of working either 20-40 hours over the next 7 days, plus eating (2 hours per day - 14 hrs) and sleeping (roughly 8 hours per day - 56hrs), plus showering and other regular life stuff, but only 168 hours left until the wedding - sorry that definitely does not add up! It’s very very stressful, and not worth it if you’re doing it for free for an ungrateful person. It also costs some $$$ for the stabilizers to make sure it stands up, doesn't fall over and sits straight. You need to be able to make fillings and big batches of frosting or fondant which isn't as easy as it sounds. “I’m not expecting perfection! Just bake 4 sponges and cut them to size and ice them and then maybe do some superficial decorations.” First of all, baking 4 cakes and decorating them is a time-consuming, labor intensive job. Especially if they’re for a wedding! You just know that bride would have hated any cake her poor niece made. “I’m not expecting perfection!” Why am I doubtful? The fact that she’s so flippant about how much time and skill would go into that just shows she has no realistic expectations and she would absolutely not appreciate the effort her niece put in. Second of all, I am a pretty experienced home baker (15+ years) and I still dread making and decorating layer cakes. Making frosting can be quite finicky and getting an even, smooth layer of the frosting on the cake is basically impossible, let alone making decorations, unless you have professional-level tools like a turntable, baking spatulas, icing combs, pastry bags and tips, etc. And that isn’t even taking into account the time you need to set aside to chill the cake layers and then do the crumb coat, then chill that, then do the frosting again and decorate. If you have little to no experience baking, that would be a nightmare. And again, it’s not just a cake for fun or for a birthday party, it’s someone’s wedding cake. The expectations will be very high. I’m also positive the bride wouldn’t have been willing to compensate her niece for supplies, time, and labor. If the niece is uninvited from the wedding, she’s dodging a major bullet. Entitled brides make me so exhausted! If it’s just *so* easy and quick to make a full wedding cake, just do it yourself! Girlboss it ;)

I grew up with dyslexia (now called "Learning Disability with [insert type here]. with mine being Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and Discalculia, yeah, all three) So I have a VERY hard time spelling words that are over 5 letters unless I use them so often that I have memorized how to spell them by heart, so spellcheck is my best friend. Because of this I find written communication difficult and have to spend more time and effort to make sure that I have actually written what I correctly wanted to say. Part of this is making sure that my spelling is correct. This led me to work extra hard in English courses throughout Highschool and College. This has tempered me to be somewhat of a "Grammar Nazi" as people like to say. And I'm irritated when I have to deal with people that have poor grammar or poor spelling. And although I usually just ignore it, when someone pissed me off, I WILL attack their poor spelling or grammar without mercy in those instances...

A lot of kids would run around and play, there were also a couple of dogs.
It was genuinely one of the most relaxed and fun and lovely weddings I have ever been to. Just about 100 people eating, drinking, talking, laughing, sitting around a campfire. Everyone was just nice and relaxed and guess what: the bride and groom had fun too! Not everything was planned to perfection, but every guest felt welcome and was fed and had a good time.
