I've heard that adapting any of the balanced outputs of DAC's to the unbalanced 3.5mm male on most cheap earbuds and cheap ear-cans will damage the amplifier on the DAC. They think that's been the problem with the Diablo's amplifier getting damaged way too soon since there's no 3.5mm output.
6-year Mojo 1 owner here. It’s been a great little DAC/amp so far, but please keep a few things in mind before purchasing one. Firstly, after-sales service isn’t great. You have to send the unit back to the UK to get serviced. Secondly, changing the battery yourself isn’t hard to do at all, but it takes some research to find the correct battery (which is oddly enough the same used in some remote control toys). Thirdly, be careful about charging and using it at the same time, because it gets bloody hot. Otherwise, it’s been a great product. I mainly used it as a line out DAC to my Schiit Asgard 3.
Mojo 2 does not have the charge + use issue. It'll automatically go into "desktop mode" and switch the battery off if it's charged and plugged in. Runs much cooler and extends the battery life. Big improvement over the 1 there.
Wade, I just want you to know, Scarlet Fire was in my Spotify Wrapped because of this channel. Thank you so much for everything you do and please....keep up the NUGGETRY!

I remember when he said something about the Diablo not being as powerful as the Mojo so whenever I've seen the Diablo I'm always slightly disappointed that the Mojo hasn't come back because the Diablo never had as thorough destruction
@@HawkEM2 Could be related to their output impedance. The Mojo2 has 0.075 Ohms (doesn't seem like iFi has posted an official spec for the Diablo). Since a lot of the stuff Dankpods blows up are lower on the impedance range, there might be some level of mismatch, not significant since the Diablo is still a good product, but compared to the Mojo here. This can cause the power (volume) to be lower even if it has a higher output voltage. Not saying for sure, but possible
I picked up one of these a while back and discovered something fascinating while reading up on it; the EQ which you control with the flashing lights is FPGA based. That means that instead of being controlled through software, it can literally reprogram its own HARDWARE to create a lossless EQ. It's very rare to see FPGAs out in the consumer world because they're significantly more expensive but this is a really neat application of the tech!
@@MrCed122 it's 1000 Australian dollars. Here in the UK it's just under £500. It's not cheap but it's not like it's a $5000 set of headphones. I think it's fair to call it a consumer product in this context. Nonetheless, it's not the "consumer" part that makes it rare, FPGAs are typically only found in prototype and pre-production units where quick iteration is important. They allow you to essentially "program" the hardware instead of reprinting the integrated circuit every time you want to make a change.
I believe this is also how the Analogue Pocket works as well, which is *kind of* a game boy (and a bunch of other stuff) hardware emulator handheld console (I am oversimplifying it a LOT), but due to the architecture people figured out how to get it all the way up to a Super Nintendo, which is fuckin raaaaad
@@christian83182 that’s really neat, I’ve only seen them in end-user products in video games until now. Man the hardest part of watching all of his vids is racing to turn down the volume on my phone because he's blowing up his speakers I love it lol keeps me on my toes
It shouldn’t be louder than his voice, that’s why he runs everything through a volume compressor first (also so we can hear him when he’s off in the distance). Though perhaps your phone speakers have a much higher response to higher frequencies than they do with vocals? Seems kind of contrary to the point for a phone with speakerphone etc but plenty are built that way regardless. (Okay, never mind, with my speakers even though it doesn’t sound that much louder to me, his speech is 61dB but the headphone torture is 65dB where I’m sitting. 3dB is a doubling in power, so it’s actually 2-4x as loud! I guess he has the settings have some slack on his compressor. It probably just doesn’t sound that different to me because human hearing is logarithmic rather than linear.) Edit 2: okay yeah, his speech after the headphones blowing up was at 65dB so that’s why I didn’t notice, as it was as loud as the previous segment despite being louder than the rest of his voiceover. But the speakers he blew up took it to 68-71dB so it’s still definitely louder by comparison no matter which way I slice it! Thanks for the unintended impetus to actually use my decibel meter haha

I actually managed to find a chord mojo at a bargain store near me for like 30 dollars, the battery in it had gone completely bad so trying to play music with it just didn't work at all, until I learned you can just take the battery out completely and use it as an in-line amp for home use 🤣 I still gave it to a friend because for whatever reason it would randomly destroy the audio of whatever I was listening to even at lower volumes
It's almost like the Avatar bloodline, with these amplifiers. Every time Dank gets a new amp for blowing up speakers, the old one dies, and the new one takes over the old one's role. Like how when the Avatar dies, a new one is born.
FPGA chips are expensive. There's cheaper amps with comparable performance. Recently got the ifi Hip-DAC 2 for A$270. Compared to my phone's built-in amp (ESS SABRE 9218P chip) it's a massive improvement in clarity and power. The Hip-DAC 2 uses the same Burr-Brown DSD1793 chip as the Diablo. Unlike the Diablo it can handle small IEMs, which sound better with optional XBass. Big headphones sound great too with the PowerMatch button. Punches well above its price tag IMO.

I have geniunely missed the Mojo, he was a huge character of early dankpods lore, which i followed since the first video! Please give us his funeral, and if he is DEAD dead, celebratory 1 grit session. Havent seen enough of 1 grit lately.
It's like he's a maniac scientist when he laughs 😂 you're absolutely hilarious mate keep up the good content
3:48 Dankpods warm and gooey.
it was super cool seeing him on cold ones but im also happy to see mojo back
@10:06 the birth of a supervillain laugh
Vid idea: Get a powerful a$$ speaker amp, jerry rig a 3.5mm jack onto one of the outputs and watch headphone nuggets cry for their lives
"mate, the mojo is back" best words in history
I agree.=)
I actually managed to find a chord mojo at a bargain store near me for like 30 dollars, the battery in it had gone completely bad so trying to play music with it just didn't work at all, until I learned you can just take the battery out completely and use it as an in-line amp for home use 🤣 I still gave it to a friend because for whatever reason it would randomly destroy the audio of whatever I was listening to even at lower volumes
You should start marking your amps with their confirmed kills ☠
I genuinely fear for my speakers when i watch your vids, it's great.
It's almost like the Avatar bloodline, with these amplifiers. Every time Dank gets a new amp for blowing up speakers, the old one dies, and the new one takes over the old one's role. Like how when the Avatar dies, a new one is born.
You’re amazing mate. Just watched your colab with chad and max. Love your philosophy in life. Thanks for bringing joy with your energy.
Chord Mojo finally returning: 🎵 "What'd I miss?" 🎵
this channel never fails to make me laugh. thank you, wade.
Dude, the Mojo has an insane price tag for me. It makes sense, but it's still tough lol
Honestly i know this channel is about quality sound but the best sound I hear ever is him blowing a set of head phones.makes my day every time
This video tought me absolutely nothing about the Chord Mojo 2. Despite this you have one more subscriber.
Useful Information Passed on: 3/10
Pure Hilarity: 10/10
Cheers!
7:52 first blood in the unreal tournament gold voice
Diablo: I thought you were dead
MOJO: My death was greatly exaggerated
so happy to see the mojo back in action!
Ahhhh another golden video from you Wade. Mate if I get out of my current situation I'd love to support your chanel as a patreon and even see if I can ever meet you in Australia. You're just too much a gem of a person. Keep up the good work.
So you plug the headphones into the Mojo and the Mojo into the Diablo and then you win.
