Thank you, this is very helpful! I have a few of these pretty little machines I'm cleaning up. I remember (50+ years ago) learning that the bobbin thread direction would look like either a lower case 'p' or 'q' depending on the machine. That stuck with me! So that makes the 99s "Ps' ♥
Thank you. I was just given a singer 66 in a cabinet 50 with a knee lever versus a foot pedal. You just helped me figure out how to wind the bobbin. I am still trying to figure out the stitch length.
Hi. Bob Fowler referred me to your channel. You do a REALLY nice job with giving very clear instructions and your filming is also VERY good. I got a 99K from my step mother who passed about 10 years ago. I've been working on it a little - replaced all the wiring. It seems to sew fine and sounds great. I'd certainly welcome any more info you would have on the 99s. The SN of mine is EN196015 so it is from 1958. The case and everything else about the my machine looks exactly like the one in your video. Thanks much.
What a beautiful machine! I have several 99s, Featherweights , and 301s I need to refurbish. Really enjoying your channel. Will you be doing a 99 tutorial?
Is there a video showing how to replace/change out the foot? I tried with mine and it was very difficult. I was unable to do to successfully and ended up putting the original foot back on. Thank you for your videos. Very helpful.
Hi! I don’t have a video on that but I will say that these machines are not a slant shank. If you are using a vintage foot it’s important to make sure you have the right one for the style of shank on the 99. Hope that helps!
Good video. Any idea why I can't get my upper thread to pick up the bobbin thread? I've followed all your instructions, but I can't get the bobbin thread up.
Hi again! I wonder if the hook is out of time? Bob Fowler has some videos on his channel that may help you, the 99 and the 66 are the same so you could search either model. I hope you are able to fix the problem, good luck!
Not all 99's look like this. It would be helpful to explain the difference. Also, when it doens't wind evenly... video is definitely helpful but links to further resources for troubleshooting (not you trying to sell your machines) would be most helpful.
That is true! Since the 99 was made for quite a few years we ended up with a number of variations. If you are looking for some information that you can't find on my channel I would recommend Bob Fowler. He has a lot more videos this point on the 99's and 66's which you may find helpful. I hope you find what you are looking for!
So helpful I’m a beginner and just bought a singer 99 learning as I go. Watched your video took me a few times before getting it right but I finally got it! Thank you so much super grateful . 🙏🏼🤍🤍 Do you have a video of how to start sewing after everything is in place to start sewing?
How exciting for you! You will love sewing with your 99. I am planning a series on the 99 that I hope to start this summer, right now I am just looking for the right machine to film it with. So, those videos are coming! If you hit a snag, check out Bob Fowler’s channel. He has a lot of great info on 99’s, especially about how they work and servicing them. Just search Bob Fowler…if you haven’t found him already. :)
@@SewingMachineRehab sweet! thank you so much again I’ll check out his videos and I’ll make sure to check back when you upload another video of the 99.
Great instructions. Thanks
Thank you!
You do excellent tutorials!!
@@larrykessler3199 Thank you Larry! Hope you are well.
I didn’t realize the singer 99 will stop winding the bobbin itself. 👍. Love old Singer machines. Thanks for such great instructions. Excellent
Yes, it is a nice feature for sure! I love the old Singers too!

You are welcome! Is it a screw type stitch length regulator? I love the knee levers, very nice once you get used to them!

Hi! There is a series planned, hopefully sometime this year. I am looking for the right 99 right now. :)
This was very helpful for my Singer 99K...... Great presentation, with clear and precise instructions one step at a time.......
Thank you so much!
Very thorough and helpful. Thanks!
You are very welcome!
Thank you so much! This was so useful
Glad it was helpful!

I'm afraid the older models don't have the lower guide, I usually hold the thread to get a little tension
There were a lot of variations on the 99 for sure!
