These are my 2 choices as well for Maiden. As much as I love 7th son, I won't say it's flawless. And Somewhere in Time probably isn't flawless either (Deja Vu being the weakest song, but it's still decent). These 2 albums (P/S and PoM) I do feel are flawless. When I was young I wasn't a big fan of Sun and Steel, but the song has grown on me over the years. And both albums end in epic songs. What more could you ask for?
1. Screaming for Vengeance/Defenders of the Faith 2. Metallica - Ride the Lightning/Master of Puppets 3. Queensryce - The warning/ Rage for Order 4. Iron Maiden - Piece of mind/The Number of the Beast 5. Ozzy - Blizzard of Ozz / Diary of a Madman
Great list! The one change I would make is Rage for Order / Operation: Mindcrime, based primarily on the strength of Mindcrime being an all-time great album.
I prefer those 2 albums over any iron maiden albums except seventh son of a seventh son. Tears of the dragon from balls to Picasso is a great song too.
Agree 100% with your list, frriend! I would add: Helloween's Keppers, Dio's Holy Diver and Last in Line, Dickinson's Accident of Birth and Chemical Wedding, Mercyful Fate's Melissa and Don't Break the Oath, Sepultura's Beneath the Remains and Arise, and some Angra, like Angels Cry and Holy Land or Rebirth and Temple of Shadows. BTW, I would also add a 5 classic releases in a row with Iron Maiden (from 1982 to 1988). Greetings!
Let’s throw Conspiracy in there, too! I guess it could almost be considered a double feature together with ”Them”, though production-wise Conspiracy takes the lead.
As a Priest fan, Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith are the best back to back albums by this band. Also would like to include the debut album of Metal Church followed by their follow up The Dark. Amazing records.
Stained Class and Killing Machine/Hell Bent for Leather. Not only due to their quality, but also because they are so different, even though their releases were separated by only 9 months!
I would add DT's images and words and awake, my personal pick would be black clouds and silver linings (my two favorit DT albums) but the former is less contravertal and more agreed upon to be their best Also maby contravertial but A7X city of evil/ A7X (or A7X and nightmare) are also perfect albums
Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage Testament - The Legacy and The New Order Pantera - Cowboys From Hell and Vulgar Display Of Power Judas Priest - Sad Wings Of Destiny and Sin After Sin Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden and Killers Helloween- Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part 1 and Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part 2 Accept - Restless And Wild and Balls To The Wall
Iron Maiden - Somewere In Time and Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son and Queensryche - Rage For Order and Operation Mindcrime. I was so close to put Magnum - On A Storytellers Night and Wings Of Heaven on the list, but just realized that Vigilante was in between thoose two classics
A big like for including those 2 Paradise Lost albums. While I'm a fan of everything they've released, the run of albums from Gothic to Draconian Times parallels anything from any older legacy act and is some of the best music of the genre.
Lots of metal heads may agree or not, but my two favorite Iron Maiden back to back albums are Powerslave & Somewhere in Time, maybe I'm predisposed to this because I saw them live on those 2 tours back in the eighties.
British steel is my all-time favorite metal album. So British steel and screaming for vengence. Powerslave is also my all-time favorite metal album. So power slave and piece of mind.
I would have done Ram it Down / Painkiller for Judas Priest, primarily because Painkiller is easily a top 10 all-time metal album. Can't fault your choice, though. 🤘😤🤘
Even Painkiller can't make up for how forgettable Ram it Down was. Blood Red Skies was good but even that would have faired better without the goofy synths they were still clinging onto.
Talking about Screaming for Vengeance/Defenders of the Faith, I personally treat them as two parts of one masterpiece. Probably due to the fact that I first listened to them day after day and due to the fact they are similar enough in style and yet slightly different, my brain treats them as two parts of one recording, starting with the more melodic Screaming and ending with more "metallic" Defenders. I even have a cassette where the A side is one album and the B side is the other, they are inseparable for me to that extent 😂
Cool concept. Now, I know you're a huge WASP fan and I'm a bit surprised you didn't include them on this list. For me The Headless Children and The Crimson Idol is an amazing sequence of releases (I'd even extend it to Still Not Black Enough and KFD. I know I'm a minority but I prefer that spree to their first three records....90's WASP is seriously underrated). I also think Sabbath doesn't have solely two back-to-back perfect albums but 5! IMO from Paranoid to Sabotage everything is top notch, but if I had to pick just two it had to be Vol 4 and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. When it comes to Paradise Lost I think there's a spree of 4 absolute masterpieces from Shades Of God to One Second. I don't care much if the latter is almost devoid of metal elements, the damned thing is beautiful to a point I believe the band's highest point was between Draconian Times and One Second. Maiden is another case of a crazy long array of flawless releases: from their debut to Seventh Son everything is amazing in my opinion (though if I had to pick two back-to-back, they would be without shadow of doubt Powerslave and Somewhere In Time). As for Judas Priest, Screaming For Vengeance and especially Defenders Of The Faith is a great pick. But the Sad Wings/ Sin After Sin/ Stained Class is ridiculously majestic (with that in mind my back-to-back pick is Sad Wings Of Destiny and Sin After Sin). Yeah, Metallica IMO is a no brainer: Ride/ Master and Justice are way ahead of anything the band has ever done before and since. Yet Justice is my favorite from the catalogue and Master my number two, so my pick is obvious.
Colony and Clayman were proceeded by the excellent Whoracle, giving In Flames a trilogy of perfection, IMO. That run for In Flames might be the best run of any metal band in history.
Wintersun debut and Time I Also, in my personal opinion, Maiden and In Flames are the only 2 bands that were able to create not one, not two, but three masterpieces consecutively. Maiden with Number of the Beast (Piece Of Mind and Powerslave and In Flames with Jester Race/Whoracle/Colony
I heard Ronnie James Dio sing War Pigs paranoid and some other songs which were better than Ozzie's Could you imagine Ozzy trying to sing Heaven and Hell falling off the edge of the world or a computer God😅
Some of my favorite 2 albums are Anthem Tightrope & Bound to Break Loudness Disillusion & Thunder in the East Flatbacker Senso & Esa Razor Escape the Fire & Evil Invaders
Sabaton: Great War and War To End All Wars. I wish I could've seen Judas Priest when they filled arenas, but so glad I've gotten to see them nonetheless
Come on! back to back albums, (Iron Maiden 1980, Killers 1981) Number of the beast 1982, Piece of Mind 1983, POWERSLAVE, (1984 Somewhere in time 1986 and Seventh son of a seventh son 1988) tour - album, tour album the first 10 golden years of Maiden are beyond any other band could ever achieve.
Well, you said and you didn’t, I’d go with Rust in Peace and Countdown to Extinction, BUT I’d like to just thank you for citing Paradise Lost. Draconian is one of my favorite albums ever and Icon is just as great. Congratulations on your amazing job and Slava Ukraine! 🙌🏻🇺🇦
Metallica: the first three albums Iron Maiden: Number Of The Beast to Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son Death: Human to Symbolic (though none of their albums are bad and I can listen to any album of theirs right through on any given day) For me, that's the range where I could pick any two back-to-back albums for this list. Great video, thank you very much! Well, I can add to this list Helloween - Walls of jericho / Keeper... 1 (yes, not the second part 🙂); Bruce Dickinson - Accident of Birth / The Chemical Wedding; Blind Guardian - Somewhere far Beyond / Imaginations From The Other Side
Helloween - Keeper Pt1 / Keeper Pt2 Slayer - South of Heaven / Seasons in the Abyss Metallica - Master of Puppets / ...and Justice For All Manowar - Fighting the World / Kings of Metal DragonForce - Sonic Firestorm / Inhuman Rampage
Candlemass - Epicus.../Nightfall Electric Wizard - Come my Fanatics/Dopethrone Clutch - Earth Rocker/Psychic Warfare Dio - Holy Diver/Last in Line Mercyful Fate - Melissa/Don't Break the Oath Sabbat - History.../Dreamweaver..
Black Sabbath - Paranoid, Master Of Reality & Volume 4.. Judas Priest - Stained Class, Hell Bent For Leather & British Steel.. Or Screaming For Vengeance & Defenders Of The Faith or even their last two albums.. Iron Maiden - Killers, Number Of The Beast & Piece Of Mind.. Saxon - Wheels Of Steel, Strong Arm Of The Law, Denim & Leather, Power & The Glory.. Also you could easily put their last two albums on the list, Carpe Diem & Hell, Fire & Damnation. In fact any of their albums starting from 1997's Unleash The Beast are all very strong albums. Saxon have been pretty consistent since the late 90's... Metallica - Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets & And Justice For All.. Slayer - Reign In Blood, South Of Heaven & Seasons In The Abyss..
I think Iron Maiden could be on that “5 perfect albums” list you mentioned, from Number of the Beast to Seventh Son. (And I’d even throw in an honorable mention for Live After Death.)

Melissa & Don't Break the Oath is the correct answer
good albums
They also have the greatest come back album in metal.
Them & Conspiracy
@@guilty-of-being-right I'd go with Fatal Portrait and Abigail, personally, but those are also excellent choices
Absolutely
Holy Diver Last in Line
Feels like more of a heavy 80's rock album to me, rather than metal. Still, amazing record though.
@@southpawjimmy9735 good one
Last in Line has quite a few duds
@@kqh123 not true imo - every tracks rocks - its my fav dio album
heaven and hell & mob rules too
Highway to Hell / Back in Black (AC/DC)
Not metal... Rock albums
Good band but not metal.
I'll give you that
Cowboys from Hell/Vulgar display of Power 🤘🏻
Agreed…so good
Metal magic / Projects in the jungle?
Piece of Mind and Powerslave
@@tapiokorhonen3312 I went with Powerslave/Somewhere In Time, but you’re not wrong either 🤘🏻
Maiden had a string of 5 outstanding albums from Number to 7th Son

“Yeah, unbelievable.” That clip never gets old 😂
I will ALWAYS continue to include it haha
It`s unbeliveble😂
Accept from Breaker to Russian Roulette are just perfection
The first two Ozzy albums are amazing, especially Diary.
Sabbath had 2 amazing albums at the same time as well.
Ozzy's first 3 are amazing
Very much this. Diary I find doesn't get enough respect. And it's a really great Ozzy album.
1. Screaming for Vengeance/Defenders of the Faith
2. Metallica - Ride the Lightning/Master of Puppets
3. Queensryce - The warning/ Rage for Order
4. Iron Maiden - Piece of mind/The Number of the Beast
5. Ozzy - Blizzard of Ozz / Diary of a Madman

I live in Wales. Literally nobody I know (real music fans) knows their music. I've tried to tell them how amazing they are.
Agree. Draconian Times is my favourite metal album of all time.
Melissa and Don't Break the Oath. :)
Yes, I know there are at least two *strange* choices... but that's my honest opinion. And what's yours?
@user-yv9qb4li9c I like it! Crazy fast bass riff and overall great opener track
@user-yv9qb4li9cGangland is not great neither...
Powerslave and Somewhere in Time, Easily!
Bruce- accident of birth and chemical wedding
Very good call for Bruce solo work! :)
Totally agree

Accident of birth. Best Album maiden never made.
@christopherkimball2264 Scream For Me live in Brazil- one of the best live albums I have ever heard.
Those Paradise Lost albums are fire!

heaven and hell and Mob rules, Slipknot and Iowa
Melissa/ Don’t Break the Oath
Halford's first 2 solo albums belong on this list 🤘🏽
How do you think about Slayer? Hell Awaits/Reign in Blood, two vastly different albums both of which where highly influential.
The best back to back to back are Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, and Powerslave.
Any two from 666 to 7th Son
King diamond - Abigail and Them or Them and Conspiracy.
Thin Lizzy, Fighting and Jailbreak. Cannot be left off a list like this 😊
They're great albums but they're hard rock not metal...

Yuck.
Ænema and Lateralus from tool
Touche. I was literally racking my brain and did not think of that. Great shout 👍
Savatage - Hall of the Mountain King + Gutter Ballet
Maiden has several examples in the eighties, no need to mention the obvious.
I'll instead mention King Diamond with 'Abigail' and 'Them'.
