If u wasn't in the Sugar Ray Leonard Tommy Hearns and Hagler era people for some weird reason assume u wouldn't be that good even if u were a fan favorite like Manny Pacquiao
Mayweather takes most of the punches while Whitaker ducks them. It's easier for a right-hander to duck a right-hander's punch than it is for a left-hander to duck a right-hander's punch. It's obvious that Whitaker's defense was better and his reflexes were better. In some fights, Floyd looked more beat up than his opponents because he still takes punches and those punches do damage. It's possible to learn Floyd's style with a lot of work, but it's impossible to develop reflexes like Whitaker's. You either have it from birth or you don't, it's that simple.
It's not the Mayweather defense the man who invented the Philly shell is George Burton the Mayweathers didn't invent the Philly shell they just made it famous
Whitaker by a mile for me. Floyd held and ducked below the waist a lot and let guys pound on his arms and body. Whitaker could make you miss without holding or running or ducking below the waist. Watch whitkaer 7 years older than Oscar fight him dead even and drop him. Watch floyd four years younger fight a 34 year old Oscar who was in semi retirement to dead even. Oscar had a much easier time hitting floyd than Whitaker and oscar was way past his prime then as Oscar’s prime was in his mid twenties. Oscar had way more mileage on him due to tough fights and his out of ring habits. Whitaker was also shorter than floyd which makes his fight v Oscar even more impressive.
Whitaker bent below the waist more than Floyd did. Whitaker would literally squat to the ground to avoid punches. How can you bring that up as a criticism for Floyd and praise Whitaker of all people? lol. Oscar landed 191 punches on Whitaker. Oscar landed 122 on Floyd. In what world did Oscar have a much easier time landing on Floyd? Oscar himself said Floyd and Whitaker were equally hard to hit. He prefers Whitaker's defensive style though.
@@TheRexrapper Mayweather squatted down to Pacquiao's sneakers more than Whitaker did in his entire career. Mayweather took more punches from Oscar, it's stupid to think that punches in the block do not cause damage. If you were into boxing, you would know that punchers' punches cause serious damage through the block, when they hit the shoulder, the body, you just try not to show how much pain you are in, only a strong chin and a strong character save you. Oscar beat Floyd, he hit Floyd a lot, but he didn't hit Whitaker as many times. Until now, most people think that Mayweather didn't win against Oscar, and at the same time most people think that Whitaker beat Oscar. If you are such a seeker of truth, rewatch Mayweather's first fight against Castillo and Mayweather's first fight against Maidana, Floyd lost there cleanly.
@@mister_bruce You didn't watch Whitaker. You probably watched highlights. Oscar is stupid then according to you. He said both were equally hard to hit. Most people do not think Oscar beat Floyd. Stop using your own personal feelings and applying it to others.
Sweet Pea was a slightly better defender but Floyd edges him on distance. Nobody in boxing history has better distance than Floyd. Sweet Pea was more elusive rather than actual distance.
@@Nickgonelie Whitaker isn't a better defender IMO. He is more flashy so people who pick Whitaker prefer his aesthetic. Floyd was legit better at not getting hit and his defense was great from the beginning of his career to the end.
I am gonna hedge and just say that I have seen great fighters against both Floyd and Pernell, and most of them looked like they were having the worst day in their lives. Not fun.
This is one of the best breakdowns I've ever seen from a trainer.

Pernell and Floyd sparred on occasion. Rip to the great Pernell Whitaker🙏🏽
brilliant interview what an amazing breakdown , top notch
The best interview ever about Mayweather. Wow.thank you for this post.
Floyd was driven and dedicated to the craft to be the TBE. Unfortunately Pernell not so much.
I feel you only compare people from the same era or people whose career intertwined with each other
That’s a real trainer that is a real trainer. He’s right everything that came out his mom that’s a train.
This was an excellent POV discussion.

Extremely keen breakdown

I think you mean George Benton but you are absolutely right
Thanks for the video, True School Sports
I heard boxing 🥊 intelligence being expressed!
Most sober shit I even heard in my life.

This trainers knw he’s stuffs
I feel Floyd would only 3 losses if he lost at all instead of 15
Wrong Pernell had better defense and understood distance also and angels were crazy

Whitaker has been dropped a bunch of times in comparison to Floyd

💯💯💯
Mayweather fought in
a weaker era than Pernell
I guess. I don't think Whitaker's resume is better than Floyd's tbh.
