Malcolm Owen was probably not an ideal role model but he was mine at 17. I got into heroin and punk at the same time. The Ruts like the Clash were the real thing - mixing politics, attitude, reggae and cutting edge punk. Shine on Malcolm.
What a great performance. Of the hundreds, if not thousands of bands I have seen in my life, never have I witnessed a singer mugging the guitarist for his axe ! Found this band via Rollins.
My top band ever, got most of my left arm tattoed with ruts and trus dc stuff! Didnt have to think twice, segs and ruffy love it, im now good friends with them, a lovely bunch of people who still play shitkicking music! Love to you all xxxx
I said it the day I bought the album and I still say it to this day. The crack is the best album ever. The cover is a work of art so many famous faces to pick out. I still look at it even now lol. Sad but true.
A lot of them could play, by the first few years even Clash , Pistols were tight, in my opinion. Ruts one of the best bands lyrics up there with Clash. Gone too soon Malcolm RIP Foxy.
Everybody has heard of Sid Vicious, he died young, he pretended to play bass with The Sex Pistols. People call him 'The king of punk' etc. Even though he couldn't play a note and didn't even contribute to the music at all (no disrespect to him). But nobody today remembers Malcom Owen or The Ruts. Shame. I think somebody somewhere should make a film about Malcom Owen. It would get a new generation into The Ruts. Brilliant band.
Ruts dc played this at Stockton last month, segs and ruffy haven't lost anything from their genius! Love em love em love em! I agree with some of the previous comments, the Ruts are easily as big as the clash!
52 this year this bad makes me fckin pogo every time i hear this,as good if not better than 999,menace or sham for punks and skins getting together.r.ip. foxy, malcolm great geezers.come back to dublin ruts !!!!
Greatest band to come out of the Uk Punk scene. Malcom gone way too soon speeding like a jet. Babylons still burning worse than it was in the seventies.
My band The Sussed from Ireland The Sussed are reforming after 30 years in 2014 & each member gets to pick a cover version to play - I reckon this is mine! What a band!
Fantastic! I've seen a bad copy of this but this must be about the only decent footage of the Ruts live. The great lost punk band. I love them still and always will.
I miss this accent. West London working class drawl was my guess, and then I did some googling, and yes they grew up in Southall and Hayes. Iconic in punk, but missing from the street. Gotta have your local pride and class pride. Especially today with professional-managerial middle class kids telling everyone what you can and can't say and talking over actual workers all the time.
malcolm owens. what the fuck? he was so brilliant. RIP. fox was THE greatest guitarist in all punk music one of my guitar gods. not to mention seggs who set the bar for punk bassists and ruffys drumming will send you into a coma. henry rollins is SOO lucky to have performed with these guys but he so deserved it. any music appreciator would love this legendary band. i wish i could have seen these guys live.
saw them at aberystwyth of all places, supported by the flys,he ,malcolm invited the whole crowd back to his hotel, did not go ,needed to travel 40 miles home
The Ruts!!, what a perfect band name. A great fuck that juvie place, lets have some fun!! Rebelious nature to it!! I imaginge their sound would have been like a punch to the stomach combined with a trippy aftertouch with todays live sound gear. (i'd better make a tribute cover)
I was about 14 / 15 years old and lead vocals in a rather shit punk band with me mates . We did a cover of this classic tune & I still have a tape recording of it after 36 years hidden under my bed ... me missus would piss herself if she found it ... she probably thinks it's me porn stash
Sow the Ruts last year with a superb set warming up for the Damned. Just great after all these years. Both bands = good if anything the Damned were just a bit too polished.
still sing this my self .when my job iam in bites back , ,in a rut ,think a may be like half people in country ,brain washed with bbc propaganda and other crap
Ruts were simply the best of the second wave punk bands by a mile, tragic death of Malcolm Owen stopped them from becoming absolutely massive.
Real punks unlike the pistols
Malcolm Owen was probably not an ideal role model but he was mine at 17. I got into heroin and punk at the same time. The Ruts like the Clash were the real thing - mixing politics, attitude, reggae and cutting edge punk. Shine on Malcolm.
What a fantastic band the Ruts were... RIP Malcom & Foxy.
What a great performance. Of the hundreds, if not thousands of bands I have seen in my life, never have I witnessed a singer mugging the guitarist for his axe !
Found this band via Rollins.

Your a lucky fella unfortunately the worst had happened by the time i went down south RIP one of the best to come out of the SE london bands
I have never seen a guitar being shared and exchanged by the guitarist and vocalist like this! Mind blowing . True legends.
I saw them live in 1980 also. Great gig, still sound fresh today.,
His voice was incredible !
Real music. Raw and loud , one of the best Punk bands. RIP Malc
what a vocalist x x x
This is my watch of the moment - the late great Malcolm Owen.
Me I'm 62 in a week, bought this on vinal, still make me smile
I'm now 66 with a pacemaker, not comfortable with the personal destruction but I still love the noise
Awesome, still gets me going after all these years
Best than anyone !!!
Just brilliant! RIP Malcolm Owen.
I saw loads of punk bands all those years ago but sadly never got to see this lot, great band songs still sound fantastic. RIP Malcolm Owen.
Great band, great front man
RiP Malcom.
I said it the day I bought the album and I still say it to this day. The crack is the best album ever. The cover is a work of art so many famous faces to pick out. I still look at it even now lol. Sad but true.
Simply awesome !!!
the ruts were so fucking brilliant - their attitude, their music had such a big influence on me. And I'm grateful for that.
my old mans favourite punk band grew up listening to this they were class !!!!!
Unique, powerful vocalist with brilliant, tight musicianship..... not a bad attempt at guitar Mr Owen !
I can't explain how much I fucking love this band.
Was lucky to see them blow the Damned away as support band in 79
Real Music!!!
one of the greatest underestimated punk band ; the only ones that could actually play
A lot of them could play, by the first few years even Clash , Pistols were tight, in my opinion. Ruts one of the best bands lyrics up there with Clash. Gone too soon Malcolm RIP Foxy.
For my first time, I´ve had them last Friday in Fabrik/Hamburg on support to The Stranglers. Ruts DC; absolutely brilliant!
The Damned could and still can play.
And spear of destiny mate.
If any of you get the chance to see ruts dc, dont pass that chance up!!!! Theyre still as excellent and lovely as ever!!! X
Love it!
Everybody has heard of Sid Vicious, he died young, he pretended to play bass with The Sex Pistols. totally right, they were good musicians, maybe that's why they were ignored; for me they are one of the best groups of their génération;
+Walt Jabsco The best band ever!
+Walt Jabsco Sid made for good photography. Malcom and the Ruts made great music.
Michael Colello True. Sid definitely looked the part for that time.
I've seen them yesterday in France. I've been waiting for this for 35 years! one of the best gig i've ever seen. There are still so good!!
Curiously ironic these lyrics... magnificent song.

Ruts dc played this at Stockton last month, segs and ruffy haven't lost anything from their genius! Love em love em love em! I agree with some of the previous comments, the Ruts are easily as big as the clash!

Would've been bigger than the Clash, great shame.
Dicky - where did you get this version from? Have you got any more footage?
BASS
Easily up there with the Clash, underrated and finished too soon.
They're still a great band now as a 3 piece, really good live.
They all wear hats, they must be all baldies...
Guitarist wants to be Pete Townsend so bad
Yeah foxy claims Townsend and Stan Webb of Chicken Shack as influences
Love the ruts. Shame he OD'd so early in their career
Ruts....they were best....
