Hey I just want to say thank you so much! I've been using Linux for a while, but it's always been through a VM. I wanted to wipe windows off of my laptop and have Kali as the only OS, but I just could not figure out why it was not booting to my USB. After being at it for 3 hours I felt like an idiot, and then I came across this video.

Telling Rufus to write in DD image mode was what saved me from having a blood vessel in one of my eyeballs explode all over the neighborhood.

During multiple choices, use the Tab button to move to different options, press the spacebar to select, and hit enter to run the process.
IMPORTANT: If this procedure does not work for you, and if some reason your USB will not boot Kali like shown, disable Secure boot in BIOS and try again, it helped me out.

Do you mean that when I first boot to kali, then i could unplug the usb driver ? Like after the first login ?
For Acer users and anyone receiving a "secure bootup" issue, in the bios settings set a bootup password and disable secure boot up.

Couldn't you throw in a fresh nvme m.2 drive with the usb and download kali onto that new drive and keep your old windows 10 drive with your data?

Hey so I recently downloaded kali linux without VMware I think anyways I downloaded it with Rufus and with that USB thing. However after setting everything up and getting to the starter page and I press the button to Kali GNU/Linux it brings me to a black screen and it stays there its basically frozen nothing loads I stayed there for like 20 minutes and nothing happend There was only on the top left a little underline ( This basically _ ) And it was also frozen please help me what can I do ?
just a note, it s better to do: "apt update & apt dist-upgrade" instead of apt upgrade
I think it depends what you want to do. Kali also uses apt full-upgrade. I'm not sure if dist-upgrade and full-upgrade are the same, but as far as I know upgrade only upgrades tools that are already installed and doesn't make major version changes on the actual OS.

Hello! Before I start this process I would like to know if this is good as a Host Operating System.
I am Currently using Linux and i think switching to Kali will be great for me because I love Coding and Testing new things!
I have basic knowledge of BIOS and Installing Distros and Linux because ive made switches between distros Many times.
( ubuntu -> ElementaryOS -> LinuxMint)
Before I do anything, Can someone help?
If you can, here are some questions you could maybe answer for me:
- does this work as a HostOS? Ive seen that it installs packages for VBox (his current Virtual Machine.)
- will this be as good as my current distro? Can i do everyday activities on this?
- will installing this distro be a good idea?
- is the Gnome-Disks utility pre-installed? (Incase i want to switch back)
- is it a good Distro to use?

I followed the guide and did everythion correctly but kali doesn`t reboot after the installation, I did it several times but there`s just a "-" flashing on the screen when trying to reoot. I also plugged my HDD into my Windows with an usb adapter and there were no files on it. Please help me... Do I have to try with a different HDD or I just have to download the ISO file again? *I tried to install Kali with my Sandisk usb drive 64GB so there shouldn`t be any capacity problems.

It doesn't work. I inserted the ethernet cable and kali was not able to detect the connection, I continued to install without connecting to the net. It says it installed xfce desktop but when I log in the shell "startx" doesn't work. Wireless isn't detected by kali, even if I look up "ifconfig" wlan0 is not there and I cannot put the interface up. How do I enable the wireless ?
That sucks. I'm sorry to hear that. I haven't experience driver incompatibility until 2020.1 at all... It's weird that they removed older drivers or whatever they did.. Can't help you with it really.

Your device didn't found WiFi driver, because you used rufus, even, I was facing same issue, but then, I used another tool named 'Etcher', suggested in Kali Linux official documentation and all errors were solved when used Etcher to boot the pendrive.
So, use Etcher whenever you're making bootable for Linux, use Rufus, when making bootable for Windows.

Hi Stefan, I've followed every single step and reached the end of the installation process. However, when I finished the installation, instead of reboot and enter Kali system, it just rebooted and entered my old Windows system. Es el orden del boot, cuando aparesca la marca de tu pc apreta f9 o f10 y abriras el menu del boot y elije kali.
