- Here's a method for finishing a V neck on woven fabrics which doesn't require any fancy gadgets & uses less fabric than facings.
There are many ways to do this, this is just one method & useful if you want to omit a centre seam in a pattern, such as the Ruffle Dress & Top by Dressy Patterns. This is day 72 of 100 days of sewing.
The pattern that I'm using here is a free pattern from Peppermint Magazine

Thank you, great tutorial and this was much easier to sew than I was expecting!
You're welcome glad that you found it helpful 🤗
Perfect timing! For 2 days I’ve been struggling and procrastinating with finishing a neckline with bias binding. I was about to give up when I saw your video. Thank you so much - I know I can do this now.
Having spent some 20 years as a quilter, I of course recognize that technique, but never thought to apply it to a neckline! Well done! Love it.....
Thanks so much, Sam! I saved this in my sewing playlist and it came in very handy today sewing bias binding to a v neck on a dress.
Oh that's great to hear - glad it was helpful!
What a great technique for doing the V using bias binding.
Thanks Sam that’s a great tutorial. Something I have to try , I love a v neck.
You’re welcome, me too 😊
Wow, Sam! This is great. Thank you .
You're so welcome!
That’s a brilliant tip. Thanks Sam.
You're welcome Evelyn 😊
Your tips are always helpful and well explained. Thanks so much for your channel. I think the most important part is the mathematics used for the widths of the seam allowances and the width of the bias binding. Unless we keep that in mind, any binding will be hit and miss! 💜 ❤️ ♥️
Thank you for this clear and succinct demonstration!
You're welcome 🤗
Thank you! Certainly some tops I would prefer to do this!
As always - thank you Sam. I love your finagling 🤓🏴
Ha ha you're welcome Mags 🤗
This was extremely helpful for a shirt I'm making right now. Thank you so much
You’re welcome, glad it was helpful 🤗
That’s a brilliant tip , thank you .
SO glad I saved this video!! What a great resource! I had a potential disaster this afternoon with a v-neck situation and I remembered this tutorial and it was awesome! Total game-changer. Thanks so much, Sam! :)

Sam - thank you so much for this brilliant tutorial. I've always wondered how to do this!
You're very welcome!
Great tutorial as always Sam... thank you 😊 xx
You’re welcome 😊
thanks I love your tips so much you make it seem so simple and I think I now know how to do it a lovely finish without extra fabric for facing brilliant thanks
After watching your method using elastic to gather a ruffle for a dress I thought I would give it a go. I have now made two dresses using this method with great success. Thanks for this tip. No more basting lines and drawing them through for me. 👍
This is the best technique! Thanks so much
Glad it was helpful!
Perfect timing for me. Just bias bounda new top!
Today, I am taking out the messy facing & doing your way so it (I hope) will look much neater. Thanks for the timely demo.
Great tutorial! Thanks so much!🥰
Glad it was helpful!
Hey Sam, your technique is brilliant! Tried it today and it worked a charm😁
Fantastic, glad it worked for you Jenny 🤗
Brilliant, thankyou!
You're welcome Ruth 🤗
So helpful! Thank you!
This is spooky timing! I just made a v-neck caftan with a facing but it’s flopping out, of course. So I thought wait, let me make a binding! I’ll go and re-watch that bias binding video again, and here you are with this!
Ha ha Marie I must be psychic, yes the facings can be a pain sometimes can't they, hope the binding is a success 🤗
Thanks! 🌺
Very nice technique I will try that out.☺
Wow!
Thanks Sam. A brilliant technique which I will definitely use!
Great tip, thanks Sam.
You're welcome 🤗
Thanks a million!
You're welcome 🤗
Great tutorial. You made this look so easy, but I’m sure I’ll manage to mess it all up somehow! 😂
Pure genius!! This has made my day! Thanks so much💕
Having got into a bit of a muddle last time I attempted to bind a v neck ( I got there in the end), I will definitely be following your tutorial next time. Thank you!

Thank you, so useful. It looks so neat!
Thanks so useful. Much appreciated
Glad it was helpful!
A wonderful tutorial. Thank you! Do you use this same method for round necklines and armholes?By this I mean, 1.5 in bias strips folded in half versus using the bias maker for single and double fold? 💗🌵🇺🇸
