  • I watched some videos regarding bike thefts while locked with a Kryptonite U-lock and how easily it was picked with a Bic pen. I immediately felt compelled to warn all safe owners who rely on this or these kind of safes with this type of lock. It doesn't matter if you have the upgraded biometric version. If it has that cylinder type lock it can easily be compromised. Please srop using this safe immediately as it is no longer considered a safe if it can be broken into so easily! Pleaee share with your friends and family that own this kind of safe. Don't believe me try it for yourself. You will be very disappointed once you do but at least you'll just be replacing a safe instead of your firearm! Please share and comment below.

    Wow! 🤩 You saved me $45 bucks from locksmith. 🙏🏻 A Bic ink pen and 2 or 3 minutes. Done ✅ You Rock Sir! 🎸 I had tried several other techniques but none worked. I subscribed and liking your videos now out of appreciation.👍

    Worked. I can't believe it. Just wow. I always knew that a crowbar would defeat this safe but knowing that my kids could open it with a stinking PEN is unreal.

      I still don't get this mentality.. The safe cost you what? 40-50 dollars? It still functions as described and the barrel key bypass could be filled with loctite IF you genuinely believe your below-gun-age children have the wherewithal to attack your safe's bypass with a chopped up bic pen. Edit if your children are that fucking smart just show them how to shoot.

    Thanks! I had an older version of this that doesn't even say GunVault anywhere and which has the older style "bump" buttons. It's been in storage maybe 20 years so of course the batteries were dead. No idea where the keys were. This worked perfectly and as Penny Packer said, I had to use a rubber mallet to hammer it in a bit, but I had it open in a few minutes.

      Put a drip of super glue in the keyhole. Remove with acetone if necessary. But ya, unacceptable bypass method.

  • @ryancoplan4671
    @ryancoplan4671 3 года назад +1

    To prevent this use a *small* amount of super glue (NOT epoxy) to disable the backup key. It will now be impossible to pick with pen method however if it belongs to you acetone can be used to remove the super glue making the key usable again. It will take a while to dissolve which is fine if it's yours but importantly eliminates this rather easy bypass. Acetone will likely mess up the foam if it gets inside - I have not tested.

    Just did it, took me 5 minutes to open up the end of the pen to fit and wiggle it in. Make sure you put the safe on a hard surface. My sig .380 and my Glock 42 are grateful!!

  • @OneWheelLess
    @OneWheelLess 3 года назад +1

    You could change the cylinder 🤷🏻‍♂️, you can pick pretty much any lock, with a small safe like this if someone wants what’s inside they’re probably not gonna stand there and mess with it, they’ll take the whole thing and figure it out later. still fits the purpose I need it for. 1 gun next to bed, keeps the kids safe, easy for me to access. Other guns are in the main safe.

    • @OneWheelLess
      @OneWheelLess 3 года назад

      I could pick any cylinder lock with a paper clip and something to turn the cylinder, this trick with the pen works often but not on every lock.

    The video is meant to educate consumers on picking a safe with a better locking mechanism. If someone owns this safe I hope that they replace it with a different one. There's other videos available for opening these types of locks so someone could already have this knowledge and open it. Whether it's a kid or burglar. I think it's our responsibility to expose these weaknesses in storage and find better methods so that no child gets hurt from gaining access.

    My batteries died with the Sig 220 inside. Thank god I found out when was just going to take the gun out to the range. This pen trick didn’t work but I found another way. A spent brass 357 casing is a perfect fit into the circular lock. Then tap it down with a light hammer. The soft brass takes the necessary shape and with a turn voila open safe.

    whats really sad is all the design and engineering that went into the box itself and if they had just used a slightly higher quality tube lock they could have avoided such an easy exploit.

    Right but look the safe still functions and if we are talking about a matter of minutes or hours preventing unauthorized access then it did its job. You didn't show the 20 minutes to an hour it took to work that plastic pen into the shape needed to open the safe bypass. That time is why the safe exists. If someone wanted into it NOW they'd just use a crowbar and their foot... I don't have any tie to the Manufacturer nor do I own the device but people need to be reasonable about the level of security they're buying with 40 dollars worth of sheet metal and some springs.

    90% of locks on doors anywhere are crap and can be opened by anyone with minimal training.
    A simple rake and tension wrench can open the doors to your home.
    This old pen trick has been known for a long time and works on many tubular locks.
    There are higher quality tubular locks, like the kind found on many vending machines available, but manufacturers would rather use the cheapest materials and locks possible to maximize profit.

    I have a 2011 Mini Gun Vault as shown in this video, same box and product. I called the company who told me they do not supply keys that contain a letter in front of the number on the lock. I asked why they don't support me, the customer with the proper key replacement? The person I spoke to said they no longer support older products. I asked why should I buy their product if they will not support the customer? Answer: we don't supply keys that begin with a letter designation as stated on their website. I told him I will buy someone else's product before I buy from a company who doesn't support their older products or prior customers. This company is a joke. Don’t buy anything from them.

    I moved and lost my keys than today I went to open it and code won't work :( So I used the pen trick... Now I couldn't find a bic pin that would fit over the lock like yours but I did find one finally in the house. So after about 10 minutes of shoveling it down there and moving it around it opened :) Put new batteries in and now should be okay for a few years but kept the pen just in case :) Great video.. and I know you took some hate because kids will do it but if you won't have done the video someone else would. I think this was a great video to let parents know that their box isn't safe... so they should go right now to a gun store and buy a trigger lock and quit crying about this video....

    • @ardyshane23
      @ardyshane23 6 лет назад +5

      Jamie I know I am late to the party, but insulting people and name calling only shows whether or not you have any class. Secondly, kids are crafty people. I remember trying to pick locks through straight curiosity and being successful. You would be amazed at what kids can figure out by accident and when determined. This shows parents so they can take measures to buy a safe that will keep a gun out of their kids hands. I used this video in my decision to choose another safe. Luckily the safe I am getting has no keys, no electronic lock, and will take old fashioned strength and pry tools to get into. So that way it takes more than a crafty, clever, determined child to get into it. I love these videos and they help me, a parent of 2 children, keep them safe by purchasing the right safe.

  • @JoesGreatOutdoors

    Just made a similar video on a similar safe made by ivation. Makes me feel like the safe I got is useless and just a steel box that I kept my firearms in. Not sure what a secure option is now since so many safes use those tubular locks.

    im calling fake. i bought one of these in october. the inner cylinder of the tubular lock is waaaaay biggrr than a big pen tube. even if it did fit, anyone that knows how tubular locks work would soon realize this isnt possible. there are 8 pins that habe to be pushed out into position, every single time the lock is rotated 1/8 of a turn these pins have to come back in and be pushed outfor the mext 1/8 turn.

    • @JoesGreatOutdoors
      @JoesGreatOutdoors 7 лет назад

      Jon XVI say that when your firearm magically disappears one day. Maybe your safe has a big lock, but the one I got took 3 pens to find the right fit and opened instantly. A child could do it which is a scary thought.

    • @flonomcflooneyloo7573
      @flonomcflooneyloo7573 6 лет назад

      I do think this has to be a scam. For one thing the smooth tube of the pen will not have a way to turn the insert. Any lock pick method will use a lever to turn as it's being picked. There is nothing to push down the right pins. So it's not going to work unless the mechanism is pre-broken. Sorry YT lock pick fans.
