I imagine the history of the tubular lock goes something like this:
Lock Manufacturer: People are getting too good at single pin picking, we need something to throw a wrench in that.
    *tubular lock developed*
LM: Perfect! They'll never know what hit them!
Thieves: Huh? What's this? Wait... Are all the pins in a single easy access layer? This isn't harder, I think I can actually just make keys now...
    *impressioning tool developed*
    T: There! Much better!
    LM: *flips table*

Listen, if anybody has watched this video over and over and has this same tool, but can't make it work-- I will tell you what I was doing wrong. When you push the magnetic metal ring up to align the pins, simultaneously pull down the rubber band rings on top of the blue ring. That is what made the difference for me.

I have a few Gunvaults around the house and came across this video a few years ago, and here's the fix...
The cylinder picker is defeated by *only one* drop of *thin* superglue (aka cyanoacrylate), and regular battery swaps to prevent needing to use the key frequently in the future.
I have missed a couple of battery changes and needed the key.. a drop of superglue is defeated by the correct key, a couple of light taps to fully seat it, and a firm twist to unlock it.
DO NOT use a thick gooey superglue as it piles up too much and fills the key socket.. thin glue wicks off into the internals and locks enough parts in place so the picker can't do its thing.
Worst case, use a mini torch or soldering iron to heat the core of the lock, it will loosen the glue and the key will work. "Cyanoacrylate debonder" dripped into the lock works too.
The correct glue is *thin* from Mercury Adesives, Bob Smith Industries or any thin "CA" from a hobby/crafts store.

I actually own this gun vault biometric gun safe. I was immediately concerned with the weakness of the cheesy tubular Chinesium cam lock that came with the unit- but with only some minor modifications I was able to install a much more capable Abloy Protec camlock which has kept my peace of mind until Bosnian Bill showed me the “punch out technique” that the Abloys seem to be susceptible to! (Thanks for that-lol) but even still, the Abloy upped this safe from maybe a 2-3 in the security range to something more like a 7 or 8. Any suggestions on a replacement camlock that won’t totally break the bank-I’d be glad to consider some. As for the fingerprint sensor, it’s much better than LPL gives it credit for- with dry finger, opens on first swipe 9 times out of 10. That’s all I got. It’s worth it to buy the safe and a decent camlock and you have a high security unit that comes in around $400 if you do the mods yourself. Love Love Love your channel man!! Keep em coming I’m hooked!

I'd love to see you pick the lock on a large safe like a Liberty safe. I used to deliver those all over the place in Oregon. there's literally millions of dollars in cash and marijuana sitting all over Oregon in those crappy safes. The rotary dial safe has a key lock which makes it immediately worthless, imo. The combination locks are so hard to use that sometimes you can't even get the combination right when you know it but what good is that when it just has a regular lock in it? I'm really curious to see how bad the digital version is because it doesn't have a key or a rotary dial lock and it must be really easy to get through. these are fairly expensive safes for the common person and they put things like guns in them which are the type of things that you don't want to have stolen and just out there on the street . That's why I think it would be really good if you did a video on it and I doubt that Liberty would offer you a free safe to do it to, but you never know.

Epoxy in the keyhole. Use the button combination lock to open it instead of the reader. It's now a great device. They sell ones without the fingerprint reader and just the fast access button combination lock. These devices are designed to deter residents, children and guests in the house from unauthorized access. It's not a safe or burglary device.

CaptIntrepid Even the highest end safe is not truly safe. With the proper tools, anything can be opened. I can open nearly any gun safe you can buy with a 20 dollar grinder and a few grinding wheels, in a matter of minutes. Sure, it’s going to take longer, and it’s going to make a lot more noise, but nonetheless, don’t ever consider your possessions “safe” just because they’re in a specific type of container.

Little bit late seeing as how your comment was 7 months ago, but LPL is a master at single pin picking so the odds of there being a fair priced lock with any sort of pin core in it that he is unable to pick is very slim. Single pin picking takes a lot of practice to learn, but once you're able to feel the smallest clicks in the pins (like LPL can) and are a master at it you can open basically any market-product pin lock. Once you're able to feel those tiny movements it's basically as if you have a camera inside of the keyway because you're able to build a mental image of what's going on in the lock and what is left to do to open it.
This is why in quite a few of his videos he'll go "we should be close i dont know what's holding us up now" and within 2 seconds of saying this he's got it open

    • @evanmorris6508

Much of this depends on your use case (I'll assume firearms). If you have kids or teens in the house, that may demand a different lock than one for burglary. Also depends on the size and type of your collection. Gunsafereviewsguy.com has a good overview about what to look for with gun storage. Also try handgunsaferesearch here on RUclips.
