Just wow! Oddly enough this film didn't feel as dark as the last one, yet the final act of this instalment really blew my socks off. This series now officially has me on the edge of my seat. Enjoy :)

In defense of Ron, he was being a dick here but he is a 14 year old insecure teenager who constantly feels overshadowed by his family and his friends, I think I was much more of a douche that age, and basically all of his redeeming qualities, moments of bravery and great friendship moments have either been cut out of the movies or been given to Hermione instead, so sadly a lot of reactors or people who have never read the books end up not liking him (understandably) as he has too little upside in the movies

Can highly recommend the audio books by Stephen Fry. They're the reason I got Audible and allowed me several more "read-throughs" in my adult years since I can listen while cleaning, traveling etc. Would highly recommend the books in any case as they offer a ton more details, insights, explanations and "side stories".

Another theory for why Ron is acting this way: hormones.
In the last film, Harry and Hermione were both a little 'extra' and aggressive. Harry was pushing back at Uncle Vernon and his sister Marge, at Snape, and other authority figures. Hermione was the same, overly sensitive and angry at Professor Trelawney, then punching Draco in the nose and slapping Harry's hand off her time-turner. And then there was Hermione unconsciously reaching for Ron at Hagrid's hippogriff class, embracing Ron at the thought of Buckbeak getting killed, etc. At 13, puberty had come to Harry and Hermione.
In THIS film, Ron is a late bloomer; puberty arrived with a vengeance. Bitter about his 'friend', the famous and celebrated Harry Potter, being allowed to bend the rules and compete for eternal glory and also not taking Ron into his confidence! Hermione swept up in Krum's reflected glory! And all the embarrassing stuff, like being made to dance with Professor McGonagall, the dodgy dress robes his mother sends him, a brother showing him up getting a date for the Yule Ball like it was nothing. Bad enough he's the youngest son of the Weasley's 6 boys, all accomplished and competitive. It was a hard year for poor old Ron.
Let me just say that Ron is low man on the totem pole and has yet to find his place amongst his family and friends. He lives in a tiny crowded house. He spends most of his family life fighting to get space enough to think his own thoughts and his academic life in crowded classrooms and dorm living; he's never had enough room to be self-reflective. He hasn't even become aware of his attraction to Hermione, of which she is aware and frustrated by.
Let's just say poor movie-Ron is having an off year and cut him a little slack.

Considering that Dumbledore knows about Harry`s importance and destiny, he, of course, would be concerned. Harry could die in this tournament. Dumbledore could not allow Harry to die before being strong enough to face what was coming at the end. That`s why I think his reaction in the movie was far more logical than the calm reaction in the book.

    • @overthinker1776
      @overthinker1776 11 дней назад

It's just not in his character. He's worried, but he's also incredibly smart and reflective, so he knows he must not lose his head.
Also, he's always calm. For example, at the end of the movie, when he confronts Barty Crouch Jr., he's livid, yet calm: Harry knows he's that angry because of the aura he emits. And that makes him that much scarier.
Sorry but if you know the character, there is no comparison between movie and books.

Ron is a seriously misunderstood character. The reason for what he saw in the mirror in the first film was not because he wants all of the glory for himself, but because his parents only had so many children because Mrs Weasley wanted a daughter. Also all of his older brothers were either Head Boy, Quidditch Captain, or extremely popular among their peers - Ron only wanted to not disappoint his parents. And yes he can be a bit of a tool at times, but he always comes through for Harry. Justice for Ron!

In this one, Ron never knew about the dragons, and he never stood around using Hermione to pass messages to Harry.
Harry outright refused to speak to Ron also, it wasn’t really one-sided
Ron came to check on Harry when he noticed he was gone. When he overheard Harry talking, Harry got really upset and threw a Potter Stinks badge at Ron’s head and made a remark like “hopefully you get a scar since that’s what you want!”

I remember Cedric's death being so scary reading the book. It was so sudden, no fight or big moment. Just a simple flick of the wand and he's gone. In the books you spend a little more time with him and he truly was a good guy and a way stronger wizard than Harry (who at this point had way less experience with magic and spells than the other champions being much older). Yet despite Cedric being so strong, there was nothing he could do to defend himself against Voldemort. This situation was so traumatic for Harry too, watching your friend die, feeling trapped and helpless when a bunch of hooded figures toy with you.
This book just got way way darker than I was expecting after Prisoner of Azkaban.
Anyway, loved your reaction! Love your excitement and you pick up on a lot of details other commenters are missing. Looking forward to the next one!

      Realistic in other words
Yeah I mean it was an Eternity since I went through this book but I do remember you could really *feel* that Cedric was Years above Harry, on a level Harry couldn't even hope to grasp really. In the movie if attention hadn't been brought to that Harry was underage you'd easily believe them to be in the same year. I understand the time constraint bcs this book was FAT, I only wish they'd made it a Little bit clearer that Cedric really didn't encourage those badges, a small thing that could have established harder that Cedric was a nice guy

lol, I actually forgot how little they explain about what happened at the end :D Ok so remember back to the first film, the wandmaker guy Ollivander told Harry that both Harry's new wand & Voldemort's wand had "twin cores" that is to say, they both have phoenix feathers from the same phoenix as their magical core. Turns out that if you force wands with twin cores to fight each other they don't work properly & you can get some pretty funky effects. That's what you saw in the graveyard. "Priori incantatum" is what Dumbledore says at the end, it's more commonly known as the "reverse spell effect". It causes a wand (normally) to show the last spell it cast but in the case of Harry & Voldemort, the effect was supercharged & it caused apparitions of the people Voldemort had killed with the wand to appear in the reverse order they died. That wasn't really Harry's parents, just a magical echo of them imprinted on the wand.

In the movies Im glad they never tried to overuse it. Only Harry's wand being Voldemort's wands brother and Dumbledore's being the elder wand, which can never lose in a duel when in it's owners hands (essentially, Id assume that reverse spell effect is kind of essential to counter more powerful wizards), were able to connect with Priori Incantatum.

    • @pieceofgosa
      @pieceofgosa 11 месяцев назад +7

@@its-aydonus6842 this effect occurs once, in the graveyard & it only occurs because the wands have twin cores. That's stated directly by Dumbledore. Priori incantatum is a relatively mundane spell, Mr Diggory uses it on Harry's wand at the start of the book, when it's found next to an unconscious Winky, and all it shows is the last spell the wand cast by creating a small version of the dark mark. The effect created by Harry & Voldemort is such rare magic that Dumbledore even has to explained what happened to Sirius.

‘I see you all, whole and healthy, with your powers intact - such prompt appearances! - and I ask myself … why did this band of wizards never come to the aid of their master, to whom they swore eternal loyalty?’
‘And I answer myself,’ whispered Voldemort, ‘they must have believed me broken, they thought I was gone. They slipped back among my enemies, and they pleaded innocence, and ignorance, and bewitchment …'

I believe Winky was involved with Crouch Jr's escape, but it wasn't intentional. As a House elf, she was bound to do as he asked. Poor Winky was unceremoniously fired/freed and provided a good contrast to Dobby's situation.

Parents dealing with their child's death always gets me. I don't see LOTR in your movie library, and this isn't really a spoiler as it's basically how you're first introduced to a character. But a King wakes up from a spell to find his son dead and has a funeral. He utters a line before breaking down into tears, "No parent should have to bury their child." That breaks me.
But this... Mr. Diggory was there in the moment and he went right from celebrating to mourning. His clutching at others just for balance and crying and writhing/twisting backwards breaks my soul every time I see it.
It reminds me of seeing my grandmother when we found out my grandpa had died. She was a tiny woman and he was a large man who had been a butcher, and he'd had Parkinsons, and she could no longer care for him so he was put in a nursing home. I just remember the way she cried out and collapsed on top of his body as we walked into his room at the nursing home where he had died in his sleep.
I've heard people say Mr. Diggory's acting was over the top and unrealistic, but as someone who has seen that pain come from someone else firsthand it rips at my soul because of how hauntingly accurate it is.

Both can be sumed up with people not being flexibles with the rules, so it does make sense.

There was a serial killer running around and all the reasonable adults figured Harry would actually try to fight him.

One of the overall themes in this film is how loss of a child impacts parents.
-Mr Weasley rushes his children out of the attack at the World Quidditch Cup encampment, in terror of losing them.
-Cedric's father is so proud of his son, only for the boy to die in the Tournament; he is broken by the loss.
-Barty Crouch's son goes terribly bad, so he disowns the boy and sends him to Azkaban; Crouch is broken by the loss ("we are never whole again").
-The intercession of what is only the SHADOW of Harry's parents saves him from destruction by Voldemort (not the ghosts, just the echo of them).
Every time I watch this scene I am destroyed; I end up in tears.
Back in the late 1970s I left my son with a babysitter while I attended a company party in hopes of being able to rise in the company. Police came to the party to find me; my son was in the hospital, fighting for his life. The babysitter had gotten mad at him and held him down in a bathtub of scalding water. Most of his skin below the waist fell off.
I was taken to the hospital and left in a room, not taken to my boy. I could hear his screams from somewhere. I had to go out in the hall and BEG to be taken to him. Then I had to hold it together to be a support for him while we were transferred by ambulance to a different hospital with a proper burn unit. He was only 21 months old. After many months and skin grafts, he survived.
I am still processing this event to this day. And when I hear the character of Mr Diggery shrieking, I am back in that event. Loss or threat of loss leaves a scar that bleeds the rest of your life.

The reason why Neville is so affected when Moody was using the Cruciatus curse on the spider is because he, Barty Crouch Junior, actually used it on Neville’s parents to torture them. They are in the hospital for the rest of their lives because they lost their minds from the torture. Neville didn’t know that Moody was Barty Crouch Junior at the time but he knew that what that spider was going through was the same pain that his parents had to go through 😢 I love when he says “I’m quite proud to be their son”, Neville’s so sweet and his story’s so sad. Of his 6 siblings, Bill and Percy were Prefects and Head Boy, Charlie, Fred and George are all great at Quidditch and just popular in general, and Ginny is the only daughter on top of being popular and (eventually) good at Quidditch. So even in his immediate family, Ron has this massive fear of being a disappointment and being overshadowed - and then his two best friends are the most famous wizard of his generation and the smartest girl in the school.
I can totally see and understand how the Goblet of Fire thing might have just finally caused Ron's own insecurities to snap - he's not even necessarily actually jealous of Harry, he's just tired of constantly being in other people's shadows.
It also doesn't help that his role in the book - to be the one in the trio who grew up with magic and could explain it - was inexplicably given to Hermione and he was basically reduced to comic relief.

removals from the movie: Cedric used a Transfiguration spell to change a rock into a dog to distract the dragon. He was partially successful; the dragon took the bait, and Cedric went for the Golden egg. Halfway through, the dragon turned its attention back to Cedric, and burned his face. Cedric retrieved the egg, however, and passed the task.
Second was Fleur Delacour, who faced a Common Welsh Green. She enchanted the dragon to sleep, but while retrieving the golden egg, the dragon snored and let out a jet of flame that set her skirt alight. She extinguished the flames, and retrieved her egg. Viktor Krum was third, facing a Chinese Fireball. He used the Conjunctivitis Curse to blind the dragon and retrieve his egg. However, he was docked points when the dragon stumbled around and smashed half of the real eggs. Harry Potter drew the fiercest of them all, the Hungarian Horntail. On the advice of Crouch Jr. (disguised as Professor Moody), he used a Summoning Charm to bring his Firebolt broomstick to him, and manoeuvred past the dragon to retrieve his egg.
After the First Task, Harry and Viktor were tied for first place, with Cedric in second, and Fleur in third. The champions were told that, the Golden egg they retrieved contained a clue on how to pass the Second Task. Without it, they had little chance of succeeding.
I hope you watch the extended edition for the final films ahead.

    37:46 yes Dumbledore explains
    Priori Incantatem,
    The reverse spell effect?’
Exactly,’ said Dumbledore. ‘Harry’s wand and Voldemort’s wand share cores. Each of them contains a feather from the tail of the same phoenix. This phoenix, in fact,’ he added, and he pointed at the scarlet and gold bird, perching peacefully on Harry’s knee.
‘My wand’s feather came from Fawkes?’ Harry said, amazed.
‘Yes,’ said Dumbledore. ‘Mr Ollivander wrote to tell me you had bought the second wand, the moment you left his shop four years ago.’
‘So what happens when a wand meets its brother?’ said Sirius.
‘They will not work properly against each other,’ said Dumbledore. ‘If, however, the owners of the wands force the wands to do battle … a very rare effect will take place.
‘One of the wands will force the other to regurgitate spells it has performed - in reverse. The most recent first … and then those which preceded it …’
Which means,’ said Dumbledore slowly, his eyes upon Harry’s face, ‘that some form of Cedric must have reappeared.’
The last murders the wand performed,’ said Dumbledore, nodding. ‘In reverse order. More would have appeared, of course, had you maintained the connection. Very well, Harry, these echoes, these shadows … what did they do?'

Answers to some of your questions... Ralph Fiennes (pronounced Rafe) plays Voldemort. His nose is flat with slits because of his deep connection with snakes. The crutiatus curse (crutio) is a torturing curse. Neville's parents were tortured into madness by Voldemort's followers in his first quest for power. That's why Neville was so bothered by the spider being tortured. Priori Incantatum forces the wand to reveal it's previous spells in reverse order, so when Harry managed to prevail against Voldemort, Voldy's wand revealed Cedric, then the Caretaker, then Harry's mom, and then his dad.

Cedric's dad screaming "that's my son! My boy!" Ugh that just destroys me EVERY time. I've grown up with these movies. Nearly 20 years with this specific movie. I've seen it over a hundred times, but no matter how many times I've seen it, I cry. 😅 It's just so heartbreaking!

idk if anyone explained this yet, but the reason why ron is so angry at harry is not explained well in the movie! in the book, we hear fred and george planning how to trick the goblet, and ron and harry kinda plan on doing whatever F&G come up with if it works so they can try to be champions too. then when the cup chooses harry, ron assumes he figured out a way to put his name into the goblet and didnt tell ron he was doing it. so he felt REALLY betrayed, he thought they were ”partners in crime” and that they were gonna do it together.

So, to explain Priori Incantatem, basically the wand with the most powerful will forces the other to reveal the last spells it performed. In Voldemorts case, the people he killed. Of course, it's only possible because Harry's and Voldemorts wands are twins.

Ngl… when watching these hp films first time there were soo many details that I missed, I only pick up on some the more I rewatch them but the fact that you were able to pick them out first time is remarkable, it’s why watching your reactions is so much fun and enjoyable. I’m kind of glad I’m late to this party because it means I can binge watch these. 😊 bravo!

Wait a minute, was that old caretaker played by Eric Sykes??
Edit: I'll be damned, it was Eric Sykes. I've watched this film multiple times and never before made the connection. Legendary comedic actor, for anyone not familiar.

I was 10 years old when this movie came out and Barty Crouch Jr's revelation/transformation scared the absolute bejeezus out of me when I was a kid, to this day as a 27 year old it still creeps me tf out, they really made that unsettling as hell. To go a whole movie being a whole different person, childhood me had absolutely NO idea, and I was just clueless and had no idea what was going on and was horrified XDDD, still loved this franchise though.

I think that on this movie they did a great thing with Moody, cause in the last one we got attached to Lupin helping Harry and he was a nice guy. Werewolf nonetheless, but nice. So when we get to this one we are like "Ok... he's a weirdo, but he's helping Harry" like we're expecting another professor like Lupin and then there's Cedric... just harsh. Definitely the turning point!

Ron is the youngest of 5 brothers, who are either smart, athletic or popular, and best friends with Harry Potter, the most famous wizard ever. His behavior is understandable by how much he endures being overshadowed by his friends and family. It’s hard not to compare yourself to others and have healthy self esteem in his situation I would think.

I know this is an old video, and I’m not sure if anyone else explained this, but Hermione was born just after the cutoff of acceptance, meaning she is a year older than Harry. So in this movie/book, she is 15 years old, and Viktor Krum is 17, so not as large age gap, plus, Wizards live longer than Muggles, the AVERAGE life expectancy being 137

The 3rd movie and the 5th movie are my favorites. The 5th movie in my opinion is the best book to movie adaption out of all of them. It’s weird cause it’s the biggest book but it seems like they got everything perfect besides leaving out random passages of time where not much happens in the books other than mostly irrelevant conversations/classes etc, whereas the 3rd movie is my favorite book and favorite movie but they leave sooooo much out even though the 3rd book is so much smaller than the 5th. But the artistic choices of the 3rd film (dark colors, the unique hum sounds they use for magic, the all around fall vibes) *chefs kiss*. It doesn’t quite make up entirely for all the things they leave out (the background story of the marauders is a huge example), but if you’ve read the book you still understand so it’s not a dealbreaker. But if you haven’t read the books, I always have to explain what’s going on to friends family later on who “padfoot” is lol
