However, shortly after its introduction and subsequent release, the company soon announced its bigger brother in the Xperia XZ2 Premium - a behemoth in every regard! From its 4K HDR display, to the ultra low-light capture from its camera, the Xperia XZ2 Premium is a phone on steroids, the stuff we dream about. Everything about this phone appears to be promising, but with a retail price at $999.99, it’s seriously going to need to prove itself in every facet.

Isn't a fake hdr video like in the s9, this is HLG and you can get much better picture, editing the video in Adobe Premiere Pro and using Luts.
Also put the HDR footage in this video is the worst that you can do.
i totally agree, i am impressed by the sound quality especially the clean mid bass when i trying it, however i'm very disappointed that sony has decided to replace their side power + finger print sensor to the back, that is a huge turn off for me
S9 cant record 4K HDR... Only XZ2 family and G7.

Most of the reviews say it has the best low light video recording performance among all smartphones. With photos at par with others.

Compare it with the notched ipx, 4k display, 4k hdr recording, best ip rating, 960 fps @1080p, best low light videos, and the list goes on. Still it can't justify its price while other can with less features?

The total lack of understanding of what is HDR and how it works is a disgrace for the channel. Basically I was right all along by saying 99% of all tech youtubers are total noobs, that were lucky enough to start their channels in the early days of YT and gain a following. If it were my channel this dude would instantly get fired. INSTANTLY. You should take down this video, and do a re-do with a public apology to the fans and viewers. It´s not about Sony fan-boyism, it´s about being relevant. The damage to Sony is already done and was being done for years, as this and some other videos will be used as a reference by other non tech savvy people, and news outlets.
Who brought you waterproofing in premium phones as a standard? Who brought you camera AI? Who brought you high FPS slo-mo? Who standardized glass backs? Stereo speakers? Hi-res Audio? 4k screens? HDR screens? HDR video? Who always produces the most optimized android phones on the market besides Pixel?
Like them or not, show some respect to a brand, and be a proper journalist. Or let someone else do the review if you don´t know how HDR works and what is it.. Unbelievable.

David Yang That David, was what the world wanted from the future Xperia devices....none though wanted a complete 'overhaul' of the otherwise stunning design of the Xperia smartphones. The 'Ambient flow' doesn't look pleasing. Sony is taking the wrong road....Miss the 'Omnibalance'.

There is headphone jack. U can use the adapter included in the box to connect the headphone jack to the charging port
It's always been bugging me that Sony makes these excellent cameras and sensors for other manufacturers but they can't seem to apply it to their own phones.
PhoneArena, i think everybody appreciate so much if you could be a little more impartial about smarthones, iPhone and Samsung are the biggest, but it doesn't mean that they are the best, i don't like the design of this phone for example, but i think you are a little rude to talk about characteristics that are awesome in contrast with other brands, and i have seen many Iphon or Samsung reviews with a sweet tone about the new characteristics, for example we can go to see what you told about the 960fps record in S9, and no an important mention of the fullhd 960 in this phone. I like Sony, the new Sony phones no, but i think you must be a little more impartial.

Superb 5.8" screen in traditional 16:9 aspect ratio, not the skinny little '5.8"' 18:9 of the Galaxy S8/9. Wish reviewers would draw proper attention to this important detail as many people can be confused or misled by these screen size numbers...

So its the best phone on the market but its the most expensive.. makes sense to me.. iphonex also costs a thousand bucks so, i guess theres still no way to make Omelets without eggs, if we want premium, we have to pay premium.. off course "best" as to be used with caution because in reality no phone is the best. It really depends on what someone wants. But overall, specs wise, man this is trully a beast. Amazing.

Sony hade actually explained why the fingerprint-sensor is where it is. According to Sony it has to do with how you grab your phone when is in your pocket. The finger would then naturally end up on the sensor.

That may be the most absurd comment I've EVER heard on a review. Shooting in complete darkness... COMPLETE DARKNESS doesn't produce the best pictures. The fact it produces ANYTHING is one hell of an achievement!!! Have you ever seen an infrared picture??? They suck! This at least produces some color. SMH.

Ever think about comparing the XZ Premium to this one? Internals aside, it sounds like last generation's phone was better : more sleek, cheaper, and not too different in terms of software and effective performance.

This is my problem with these guys, the review of the low light camera capabilities isn't only about shooting in complete darkness. I have seen tons of comparisons done in low light situations on the street and the XZ2 premium blows everything out the water in detail, DR, and clarity. Stop talking about extreme darkness, there's no phone that can shoot in extreme darkness without it being grainy. Most other phones won't even capture anything in that scenario, this review is trying to down play its capabilities like he has seen better low light performing cameras in smartphones.
Actually, your comparison of HDR vs non HDR is kinda problematic because HDR contents will always appear washed out when watching on an incompatible screen. So maybe comparing the two videos on an HDR screen would be much better
Why are you shitting on the low light performance by saying it doesn't wow you like some other phones? you're telling me there's other phones taking better pictures than the XZ2P right now in daylight/night time right now?! where!? LOL and saying why should we shoot something dark when it'll look blend? you do understand the camera hardware they've used in this means it'll outperform the other in places like taking pictures outside a bar/club /restaurant at night right? and people do take pictures at night and no this phone wasn't designed to shoot only in total eclipse times like you seem to think but yes IT can see in that condition as well so it's a plus.

wait, you mean a scenario with no light doesn't make for good photos? No shit sherlock. The phone isn't receiving any light to the sensor to make colors or images appear cleanly. You need light for color. Basic physics and common sense. I do love this phone though and it is a solid device. I would love to get it.
I'll definitely wait for a price drop to get it, as 900€ (kinda justified because of the hardware) is still a bit high, one of the best (if not the best) camera available right now! Low light shots are stunning and video recording at night time is unmatched.

This is not the final software. People are having occasional glitches with the UI, camera UI and not that good battery life. Sony will release a final software update, maybe in August, to fix the problem and to add some bokeh and monocrome etc features for the camera.
So, a device with 1080p SDR screen, no slot sd, no IP rating, no 4K HDR, no stereo speakers, weaker photo/video skills earns 9.

Speakers, my humble opinion, is really good. Any stereo front facing speaker is going to be better than one.
Built quality, really solid and almost as heavy as your samsung flagship.
It really boils down to your personal preference as to what do you really need your phone for. The image processing churns out punchier coloured images, compared to the xiaomis and huaweis.
I really loved it when I was testing it, but the camera was a let down. Since most smartphones are using Sony's sensor, I expected them to be better.
Hello guys, first we must try this Monstrosity in Camera section if it claims about camera what it is advertised n explained, honestly I don't care about big bezels, I have big hands with long fingers, with bezels it's not so fragile, Sony display is superb next year they gonna put again there creation oled in TVs n phones Sony oled doesn't have burn in issue cuz of Pixel shifting. I own Sony products from walkman cassette players, now I can Finally upgrade from Z1 to this beast, I like design, 16:9 aspect ratio suites me, ofc I can wait for next premium it could have again flat back with sharp edges maybe even more like Y design, but 5G it's not priority for me. I will wait 2020 to upgrade XZ2P.
Bokeh mode is already released for Sony it's just you have to download it manually from playstore, search "Bokeh Sony" and download it, it's automatically integrated in the camera app after its installed.

XZ2/XZ2 premium looks really good but a bit to "curvy" for my taste. At least they don't have a notch nor rounded screen corners.

4k is more on a bigger screen. 4k on a smartphone is somehow a gimmick - a waste of money for now. That's why is a rare find to see a 4k smartphone except sony.

Sony Xperia LTE bands for different countries are shrinking. Seems like there are giving up on selling to some markets. 238 grams though, hefty for a phone with a regular sized battery. Other specs are great but can't use this with such limited LTE bands.

Sony phones have never let me down. When it comes to the camera, it's up there with Apple and Samsung or always steps ahead. I don't even know why I said Apple. Their camera isn't that great and the Samsung low light while moving is horrendous. I have always loved Sony and will get this phone when available. UPDATE: I just ordered mine. WOOT!!!

Actually the price of the phone itself is around 750$, the preorder at 1000$ is packed with wireless headphones worth around 350$, but nobody mention that when it comes to 1000. The camera with 50k ISO is something that consider a revolutionary in smart phones. What about Samsung and boring iPhone at 1k, 1.2 k? What they offer?

Joseph Padilla No... Electronic Stabilization does not work for 4K60. S9, OP6, G7 and U12 do not have too, just for 4K30. That is why XZ2 phones dont have it..
At least it gives you 4K HDR that no other brand gives to you.

Man, every Flagship on the Market are expensive, someone who wanta a flagship dont care if it cost 799 or 999 they want a phone that gives him a high level use, if the phone can acomplish that so the price its no problem, youre not reviewing a mid range phone where you can say something its expensive, because people in that market are looking for something good at an good price, not the same in the high end market, where people buy phones because they dont have problem with the price, they just want the best

The first Xperia z did cost 550 back then and the galaxy s6 was 600... now we have phones like this one wich cost 1000.... almost the double! Back than phones had much bigger steps in terms of updated specs. Now the differences between generations are almost non existent. I mean for example this phone: only difference worth mentioning between it’s predecessor, the xz premium, is the better low light performance and bam all of a sudden it cost 250 more than the xz premium on his release. Those prices are ridiculous and unjustified in every way possible.

It's an amazing phone! Runs super smooth, pictures are amazing. Color detail is spot and being able to take low light pictures is great. The screen on this phone is amazing! Color accuracy is very good, 4k is a awesome perk and it gets pretty bright. People talk about the size of the phone. It's a big phone but nothing like some people make it out to be. Go pick up a Note 8-9, it's really close in size, XZ2P is slightly larger. The weight of phone is what I notice most. Yes it's the heaviest phone I ever owned but that doesn't mean it's a brick. The weight feels good in my hand, plus the phone is very well balanced. I'd buy this phone again, I'm very impressed with it.
Is camera's the only thing we care about these days on a phone? SMH. How about add software features and better UI design.

I just got Xperia XZ2 unlocked. I just use it on my WIFI. Since not compatiable with Verizon. When I turn on a POP UP AD will always show on screen. When phone is on and then goes off due to not using when I hit button to turn on another POP UP AD shows up. Can I change this? BTW I LOVE THIS PHONE.

I currently own a Nexus 6p and I love it however it is 3+ years old and it's getting slow and will probably die any day. Would you recommend this phone to me, I am the type to get a phone case and screen protector so not sure if ugly design is going to matter. However I am not so sure about the finger print scanner. I just can't decide if this phone is worth $1k. Also I am a little skeptical about this phone being able to handle all of the heavy tech it has and still last 2-3 years.
Needs side fingerprint sensor. One of my favorite features of the Xperia line. Too bad.

you have to plug the headphone throu the usb-c port
The XZ Premium was the best phone of its time up until the Snapdragon 845 was released; bringing a lower resolution display and taking away the headphone jack made the Xperia XZ2 family far worse. not to mention that I hate the curved back and fingerprint sensor placement. Hopefully Sony resorts back to their old design and layout.

Typical phonearena's bitching about pricing. With all those packed Hardware and camera features along with smoothest software for non-pixel device (checkout tge review of XZ2 in XDA) with the fastest phone for updates just after pixel (checkout XDA again), this phone deserves 1000$.
Not to forget the Pre-booking offer (Xperia ear headset) for this price.
1080p super slomo folks seem to gloss over this compared to 720p super slo mo on all others.

Last year flagship XZ1 is a bargain of a deal right now. Only 300 Euro in Europe.

ok it has 4k hdr display but does it run at full 3840x2160 resolution or is it still scaled on 1080p like first xz premium phones ?
