You're all right. Your comment at the end about figuring out your own agenda is spot on. I'm 54 and what it took me years to realize is that when you are young, if you have a serious talent and desire to do something in the arts/pop culture/music/comedy field you need to understand that it may take years of hard work to achieve it,(and you might not even get anywhere) but you have to try. If not then your agenda includes being a sheep for life as so perfectly described on the Pink Floyd "Animals'' album. As Stanhope says, ''as long as it keeps you producing".

For me Stanhope is the best living comedian today. The closest thing we have to Bill Hicks. Although in some ways Doug surpasses Bill.

The order rotates from time to time. Love all these comedians for different reasons. Other considerations for my favs: Lenny Bruce Dick Gregory George Burns Andy Kaufman The thing is...they all brought something different to the art of comedy and standup. Timing, structure and selling of a joke comes natural for some people.

It’s not about skin color or last name or religion. The part Stanhope ignored was CULTURE. Most American Jews (like myself) are actually secular and non-religious, but there is a definite Jewish culture that many of us were raised with. And yes, Jewish guilt is a part of that culture, very much like Catholic guilt is part of theirs. I get it that it’s annoying when people blindly tie themselves to “identity politics,” but to completely discount the role of various ethnic cultures and pretend that we all grew up in a vacuum, unaffected by the culture around us, is just ignorant. Yes, we have our individual identities, but we’re also part of the culture we grew up with. That’s why certain white kids “talk black” - it’s obviously not about their skin color, it’s about culture, especially if they grew up in a black neighborhood. And vice versa, for black kids who grow up in a mostly white area and “talk and act white.” It’s their surrounding culture.
