I read an interview with linnell from either 1992 or 1993 recently, the interviewer asked him where he thought their career would take them, and he said (not a direct quote) that he expected them to continue on, fall out of the mainstream and develop a devoted but small-ish fan base, and that they would continue making music and touring until they were too old to keep doing it. So, at least from that point on, he seemed pretty aware of where they were going and was eerily accurate with his prediction, I must add.
@@nolimit6377 I'm not sure they were ever IN the mainstream. I guess so in the 80s when they started out, but I think the New Wave craze in the 80s happened to be just as weird as they were.

@@phlog_dog7336 He technically still shows up even to this day. During a lot of live shows for years they'd still have his head displayed somewhere on stage, but I don't believe he's as prominent in recent years.
There's no real intended significance. They originally wanted to use the face of Orson Wells, but figured the legal troubles were obvious with that. It seems that they just found something interesting and charming about Mr. White's face. They've admitted that they didn't even know who he was at the time either. As he was a progressive-minded fellow, I think he would have been cool with TMBG.

Giving David Byrne a run for his money in the weird dance department
Watching this reminded me of how my friends and I danced like TMBG at high school dances in the 1980's -and none of us dated anyone.

Random fact: Linnell played accordion on Byrne’s solo song “Civilizations” :)

Glad I can finally see what's in Flans' cup. For some reason I always thought it was noodles or spaghetti.

Lyrics
As your body floats down Third Street
With the burn-smell factory closing up
Yes it's sad to say you will romanticize
All the things you've known before
It was not not not so great
It was not not not so great
And as you take a bath in that beaten path
There's a pounding at the door
Well It's a mighty zombie talking of some love and posterity
He says "The good old days never say good-bye
If you keep this in your mind:
You need some lo-lo-loving arms
You need some lo-lo-loving arms"
And as you fall from grace the only words you say are
Put your hand inside the puppet head
Put your hand inside the puppet head
Put your hand inside
Put your hand inside
Put your hand inside the puppet head
Ads up in the subway are the work of someone
Trying to please their boss
And though the guy's a pig we all know what he wants
Is just to please somebody else
If the pu-pu-puppet head
Was only bu-bu-busted in
It would be a better thing for everyone involved
And we wouldn't have to cry
Put your hand inside the puppet head
Put your hand inside the puppet head
Put your hand inside
Put your hand inside
Put your hand inside the puppet head
Memo to myself, do the dumb things I gotta do
Touch the puppet head
Quit my job down at the car wash
Didn't have to write no-one a good-bye note
That said, "The check's in the mail, and
I'll see you in church, and don't you ever change"
If the pu-pu-puppet head
Was only bu-bu-busted in
I'll see you after school
Put your hand inside the puppet head
Put your hand inside the puppet head
Put your hand inside
Put your hand inside
Put your hand inside the puppet head
Put your hand inside the puppet head
Put your hand inside the puppet head
Put your hand inside
Put your hand inside
Put your hand inside the puppet head
