I bought some glitter flex a few months ago and finally decided to try it today. I'm using it on a patriotic block for a veterans quilt and can't wait to see the results. I had to watch the video (excellent, by the way) again to refresh my memory on how to do it. Thanks for covering the difference between the two types. I couldn't remember which I bought but you covered it and now I know! Thanks again. Following you on FB.
Thanks for the video. I purchased a bunch of glitter flex from you at Applique Getaway and finally stitched my first t-shirt with it tonight. Thanks as well for the additional tips for preparation and final pressing.
so glad I found this. Have been "putting off" using the Glitterflex I purchased recently. Getting ready to head down to visit relatives, but when I return, I'll certainly give this a try. And, I can't wait for the Under the Sea designs to come out.
I just finished using the Fusible Glitter Flex Ultra for the first time which I ordered from you. I love it. I got ALL the colors and I can't wait to use this product again. So easy - just like your great video demonstrates. Thanks so much. I hope you do more videos in the future. I am now a subscriber here, on Facebook, and have been to your website and looked at your great designs.
So glad to hear you're having a great time with GlitterFlex! I do plan on doing more videos. What types of things would you like to see or need help with?
Sew Inspired by Bonnie I don't really have any ideas in mind for videos but I like the ones you have uploaded and am always on the lookout for good sewing/embroidery videos. Love watching how things are done.
hi ya I have just found you after searching embroidery thread storage ideas, finding inspiration for my new sewing room. and then I saw this video and as I am sitting in fount of my machine I realize we have the same one, which is cool. but I am in uk so its called the Brother innovis 1, not many people I am aware of use this machine, so I just had a happy half hour :) great video too
THANK you for this video! I'm ashamed to say that I have had a roll of Glitter Flex since last year's Applique Getaway and had not used it yet because I "didn't have time" to read up on it! This video was perfect. :-)
So I purchased the designs (Glitter animals) a while ago but was always concerned about doing them. After watching the You Tube Video I am ready and will be ordering the dogs and the matching flex. Thank you I love this.
Just let me know if you have any questions along the way. Something I didn't mention in the video (or point out strongly enough) is to make sure you use a DRY iron--no steam. Moisture can interfere with the fusing process of GlitterFlex.
this is great and you speak so clear and I can understand and follow you. very good video thank you so much so many videos are hard to follow but not your do more than you again big hug
Bonnie- Your video is just great. I'm glad I watched this because now I know to use a darker thread like you said when stitching on the glitter flex. I've gotten some from you but won't be using it until after the 1st of the year. Looking forward to playing around with it. Thank you so much for offering this product.
Hi Bonnie, thank you for your video, love it. I have some glitter fabric, may you help me with some tips for that , may i use it that way, it doesnt have the glue, its fabric, may i wash it? Thanks and be safe
Thanks for writing and your kind words. There are so many different types of "glitter fabric" out there that I have no way of knowing without actually seeing what it is you have. What I demonstrated above was GlitterFlex which is a type of heat transfer vinyl that fuses with heat.
I have been working with HTV glitter for several years and all the suppliers say to IRON ON THE FRONT ONLY with a protective cloth. Ironing on the back is a method used to remove unwanted HTV as it loosens the fuse between the glitter and the fabric.
I only iron on the front when fusing as well! I take the topper off, replace with a protective cloth, but I'm still only ironing on the front of the GlitterFlex. If I ever iron the back of the embroidery after it's been fused, I let it cool down before moving it. =)
am going to order the glitterflex today your site is so nice I love your projects. I could learn a lot from you so glad for all your help Bonnie .am just getting started and need a lot of help I have a lot of Questions .thanks again Bonnie oh how long have you been doing this.your so talented.
Janet McKinney Thank you for your kind words! I’ve been sewing as long as I can remember. I began embroidery back in the 90s with a Janome 9000. There have been so many improvements in our craft since then. It’s always evolving which makes it fun and keeps it interesting!
Thank you Bonnie saw your video and I was wondering what is the difference between Glitter Flex 2, Fine and Ultra. When would you use the different types?
GlitterFlex 2 had two carriers which we don’t carry anymore. I don’t recall a GlitterFlex “Fine”. And GlitterFlex ultra just refers to an ultra sparkle.
Thank you Bonnie. This was a great video. I am very new with glitter vinyl for embroidery. Mostly for kids t-shirts, bibs, etc. Will this glitter wash and dry well and does the glitter flake off the clothing after time. If I can learn this, I would like to add it to my embroidery shop for children's clothing. I've tried some in Hobby Lobby and some canvas back type, and didn't care for the canvas. Too thick. Thank you so much for your video. Love the iron as well. I will get one. Thanks again.
Dianne Depascale The iron I found here: www.amazon.com/Hangar-9-Sealing-Iron-HAN101/dp/B0006N6Y0Q GlitterFlex is the same product used by the commercial folks for cheer gear, t-shirts, etc. It is washable. They suggest you turn the garment right side out for washing. =)
+Patty Bingaman The hair was simply part of the embroidery design. It's the way I digitized it to have variable densities. I didn't put anything under the hair--just embroidered it. =)
The steps for doing the cats and dogs would be the same as doing the Merry Mermaids. I do have more GlitterFlex tutorials at my website under "Tuesday's Tips / GlitterFlex" here: sewinspiredbybonnie.com/ Do you have a specific question for applying GlitterFlex to the Bark Buddies or Purr-fect Buddies that I could help with?
Hi Bonnie... Is Glitterflex different than Siser Glitter or other HTV glitter sheets? I have been doing vinyl for years and have quite a stash of glitter vinyl. I am starting to applique and i absolutely LOVE the look of your designs with the glitter. I would like to use up my stash of what I have before investing in more HTV. THANK YOU :)
Janet-you can use Siser htv instead of GlitterFlex. There is a larger selection of colors for sure with GlitterFlex but you can certainly use up what you currently have.
Other than color types, there's really no difference. We currently have one color in white that's called GlitterFlex II and it just has two carriers (one clear on top and a green film on bottom) that need removed prior to embroidery. All the others, Ultras, Rainbows, Holograms, and Neons simply have to do with style of color. =)
We'll get your order shipped Priority Mail with tomorrow's mail so it shouldn't take long. Be on the lookout for tracking information coming into your email box from the Post Office so you can see your expected delivery date and follow its travels. =)
bonnie, in buying the mermaid #4 does that come with the color Seguence chart along with the pes file. also bonnie. the glitter is it the ultra kit? thank you.
The Merry Mermaids are sold as a set of 10 designs in the format of your choice. Color charts and instructions are included in PDF format. The colors of GlitterFlex I used in the Merry Mermaids are all in the GF Merry Mermaids Kit. Designs and GlitterFlex are sold separately. I'm not sure what you mean by "ultra kit". If you mean our large bundled kit of 60 colors? Then, yes, the same colors can be found in the large GF kit but they can also be purchased in the smaller Merry Mermaid GlitterFlex kit. Hope that helps. =)
So, what's the difference between the different Glitterflexes other than the Glitterflex II that comes with the green backing you talk about. When would you use the Ultra, vs. the Rainbow, vs. the II? And where can you get it? Some comments on your FB page lead me to think you can buy it at a local retailer like Hobby Lobby, Joann's or Michaels. Is it only available online?
+Joyce Kirkpatrick We sell over 50 colors of GlitterFlex at sewinspiredbybonnie.com . They're all "Ultra" shiny but the Rainbows have a softer color, the Ultras are more of a solid, vivid color, and the Holograms are more of a mix of colors. They all work the same, it just depends on the color you'd like.
Hey Bonnie, Sorry I miss this video. I just saw it today 8/21/17. Where do you buy the Gliitterflex, also vinyl? I'm a little behind on the recent new items. Thanks, Karen
Hi Karen, Thanks for asking! We sell over 50 colors of GlitterFlex vinyl here: sewinspiredbybonnie.com/supplies.html It's a lot of fun and adds tons of "pop" to your applique designs. It can also be used without emboridery. Simply fuse the shapes in place using your Silhouette or Scan n Cut cutting machine. =)
Claudia Price It's called a "sealing iron". I bought if from my dealers' many years ago and it finally died on me. I've replaced it with this one that's working just as well: www.amazon.com/Hangar-9-Sealing-Iron-HAN101/dp/B0006N6Y0Q/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1430078817&sr=8-2&keywords=sealing+iron I love it because it gets nice and hot (I only put it on 3, I don't crank it all the way up as that's too hot), and works great for anything you want to press inside the hoop. =)
The Color Charts included show pictures of the mermaid along with thread colors used. Toward the end of the Color Charts is a complete listing of GlitterFlex colors used on each mermaid and where the GlitterFlex was used. If your embroidery machine displays in color, you should see the mermaid in color on your machine as well. That is a machine issue not a design issue as to how your design is displayed on the screen. Hope that helps. =)
Do you mean used within freestanding lace or to create an ornament that becomes freestanding? I have used it to create ornaments. You'd need to fuse it to something to make it permanent and then cut away. Maybe fuse to stabilizer or felt? I'd be concerned that if you're thinking sewing it under a freestanding lace design that the lace might be too dense and it would tear away from the lace.
Kimberly, It sounds like you missed the blue "change" link that's just below the products you'd like to purchase on the shopping cart page. When you click on that "change" link (toward the left side of page), you'll get the option to choose your location and then you'll have different shipping options. Just let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. Happy to help. =)
No I don't put the clear carrier back on but it's a thought. I might have to try that. Right now I store the scraps in a flat 12x12 scrapbooking plastic container to keep them flat.
Absolutely! I cut it on my Silhouette with the carrier side facing down on the mat. Mirror image your design, weed and then use the carrier to take to your project and use as a pressing sheet to fuse in place.
+Dianna Brown Sorry so slow in replying--still getting everything figured out here. The machine in the video is a Quattro and it has an 8x12 sewing field. I also have the Dream machine which has a larger hoop. It's 9x14 or something like that.
If it's on a garment turn it inside out, cool wash and tumble dry. If you're not able to turn inside out, I've had good success that way as well. I test washed a sample stitch out through 6 washings and it held up great.
+Sally Rodriguez Thank you for asking! We sell over 50 colors from our website at Sew Inspired by Bonnie. Here's the direct link: www.sewinspiredbybonnie.com/supplies.html

I so want to try this on my baby bibs/burp rags...do you think it would be okay for embroidery on my bibs and rags?
Yes, I think it would work very well! =)
thank you so much.
Hey Bonnie, Sorry I miss this video. I just saw it today 8/21/17. Where do you buy the Gliitterflex, also vinyl? I'm a little behind on the recent new items. Thanks, Karen

Hi Bonnie, would you mind telling what kind of iron that is you are using?
Claudia Price It's called a "sealing iron". I bought if from my dealers' many years ago and it finally died on me. Sew Inspired by Bonnie Thanks so much Bonnie, that's exactly what I am looking for an iron to fit in hoops.
I think you'll love this one! I've really enjoyed mine. =)
am sorry Bonnie I guess what I am asking is am I going to see the pictures of the mermaid( jpeg ) like you had it on your machine.?

Hello, does the glitter come off onto your hands.
No it does not. 😁
can this be used for Free standing designs like angles.
Bonnie is Gitterflex the same as Gitter canvas?
No they’re not the same. Glitter canvas is thicker and does not fuse. 😁
Is this just glitter HTV? Thanks!
It is a type of glitter HTV, yes.
Not sure on how to place an order on your site. It only gives Texas option or download.

Hi Bonnie which is the Brand of ur Machine?
The one in the video is a Brother; however, I also use Baby Lock. Love both brands! =)
When you store the remnants, do you put them back on the top sheet?
No I don't put the clear carrier back on but it's a thought. I might have to try that. Right now I store the scraps in a flat 12x12 scrapbooking plastic container to keep them flat.
Is it possible to cut Glitter Flex with a Silhouette cutter?
Mary
Absolutely! I cut it on my Silhouette with the carrier side facing down on the mat. Mirror image your design, weed and then use the carrier to take to your project and use as a pressing sheet to fuse in place.
CAN YOU WASH GLITTER FLEX 1
Janet McKinney Yes it is washable.
I CAN FINE IT ON YOUR WEB SITE?
Janet McKinney Yes-it’s under “Supplies”. 😁
What needle do you use?
I normally use an 11/75 needle. The same size I use for my embroidery.
@@SewInspiredbyBonnie thank you.
@@debbieoneal3371 You're welcome!
Great video, thank you! Can you use glitter flex on minky fabric?
Thank you. I wonder if that would make it stiff once done.
You did it on a sheet? But how to do this on a child t shirt?
I did it on 100% quilting cotton; however, the steps would be the same. You'd want to use a cut away stabilizer for a t-shirt. =)
very helpful. what machine are you using and what is the biggest hoop you have.
+Dianna Brown Sorry so slow in replying--still getting everything figured out here. The machine in the video is a Quattro and it has an 8x12 sewing field. I also have the Dream machine which has a larger hoop. It's 9x14 or something like that.
How to you launder GlitterFlex?
If it's on a garment turn it inside out, cool wash and tumble dry. If you're not able to turn inside out, I've had good success that way as well. I test washed a sample stitch out through 6 washings and it held up great.
WHERE DO U BUY THAT THANKS
