Pot Luck Potato Casserole 8 med boiled potatoes shredded 1/3 cup melted butter 1tsp salt 1tsp pepper 1/3 cup chopped onion 1 can cream of chicken or mushroom soup 1 1/2 cups of milk or sour cream 1 1/2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese 2 cups crushed corn flakes mixed with 1/4 cup melted butter combine potatoes and 1/3 cup of butter in large mixing bowl. Add salt, pepper, onions, soup, milk or sour cream and cheese. Blend thoroughly. Pour into greased casserole dish. Cover with corn flakes and butter. Bake 350 for 45 min. His can be layered if you like with corn flake mixture and butter and it can be placed in lower temp oven while at church. 😉
The pre-shredded cheese has a coating on it that is a preservative to keep it from drying out. A block of cheese will also sometimes have a coating but you quickly grate it off. This is what makes the difference. When you shred it yourself there is no coating and the cheese melts and blends into your dish smoothly.
I think it's cornstarch put on the cheese, not to prevent drying out, but to prevent it sticking together in one big glob during shipping, and temperature changes.
You're a sweetheart, doing all that cooking. Your husband is a lucky man. I always admired how the amish girls cook and work hard to take care of the home. God bless.
You know, they sell frozen shredded hash brown potatoes in the grocery store? Some already have onion in them. They work great for cheesy potatoes and save so much time. No one would notice the difference, since they're actually potatoes shredded, then frozen. Once I found them, it changed everything! We have to work smarter, not harder, as our families grow!
I just happened onto your Sunday Lunch video. I love that you do this tradition. I remember my Grandma, doing these things to get ready for all of us to come over after church. I especially loved how every ingredient in your menu was fresh, and made from scratch. Single I ingrediant foods, are so healthy. Thank you for your time and skill. I subscribed and look forward to more cooking videos.
I love seeing Mennonite's share their culture online! I always wished I was Mennonite. My great-grandfather was Mennonite in Lancaster County, but left the community do to his religious beliefs. He passed before I was born, so I never got to hear his experience.
Me too! I'm much older and always wanted to be closer to God than my "religion". I was Southern Baptist and feel very closely tied to Mennonite. That's sad you didn't get to meet him.
My mom taught me to wash as I go. Not only is it better to not have a sink full, but its also easier to clean them, because you don't have dried/ stuck on foods to scrub off!
New subscriber! So excited to have many more vlogs to watch. Oh and I am a born and raised Indiana Hoosier. Glad to know you and your sweet family are here in the state with me & mine..
I love your beautiful blue eyes. I love to bake fresh for my family every week too. I make shokupann, jewish deli rye and sometimes a nice sourdough boule. I have never been to your channel but I very much enjoyed your relaxing cooking and calm demeanor. Your husband and family are very blessed to have you! Hope the meal was lovely :) Thanks for the great video!
I would just like to say that I barely started going in the Mennonite church and the people from the Mennonite Church have been coming over to my house bringing glorious amounts of food and I just wondered how it comes out so perfect I'm so fascinated with how they are so humble and so nice and I just love your videos because I want to learn everything about them in the Mennonite people and maybe one of these days convert so thank you again for your videos you're very intuitive they're very educational and are very positive you can't really find that on the internet today so I just think you again from Navajo land Arizona
I like your thought process on making the pies, bread and potatoes ahead to save time. Have you considered using real butter to make your pie crust, for health reasons? I switched 10 years ago when I learned how terrible Cristco is for our body. God made butter. Thank you for sharing.
After 16 years of marriage and too many dishes to ever count I can't believe I am just this advice. Washing the dishes as you go or loading the dishwasher throughout the day is brilliant! I love to spend my Saturdays in the kitchen but the dishes after are exhausting and my feet and back hurt so bad by then. Lol! Thank you so much!
At least twice a month I cook a big Sunday dinner. My kids love it and so do my parents since they are always invited as well. Your kitchen is beautiful and the video was lovely.
Chefs tip: make a rack out out veggies in bottom of roasting pan. Whatever you have. Onions, celery, carrots, fennel, leaks, lemons, herbs and lay chicken on top. #1 no chicken stuck to pan #2 Great chefs treat #3 Fantastic au jus or gravy❣️❣️❣️ GREAT video❣️❣️❣️
Just found your blog and love it! Not only are you a great cook, you are very wise and kind for such a young girl. I'm a 68 yr old grandma in southeast PA. Im still trying to learn how to cook! Ha!
Same here Wanda, I just found her and love her sweet demeanor, energy and wisdom. I’m a 71 yr old great grandma in DFW area of Texas and learn new things from RUclips everyday❣️
awh I'm so excited to find your channel my grandparents were raised amish I live just outside of the Grabill and harlan area in indiana! and I looooove cooking!!!
You are a Rock Star!!! I love that you cook for real, real ingredients, from scratch 🤗. My Mom taught me and my sisters to make that hot soapy water and wash everything as we went along. One of the best lessons that she taught. Nothing beats food prepping and cooking in a clean kitchen, and at the end of the process, it's like you never made a mess. You are a joy to watch🙂
Just found your channel and I love watching such a young homemaker! For years every Saturday I would start my prep for our large Sunday meal after church. Most people don't cook from scratch and it was so refreshing to watch you! May God Bless You with your new baby!! ❤️
You are the best little cook ever! You kind of remind me of myself & my sisters when we were young!! It kind of sounds like I’m Bragging but my mom was an amazing cook & did a grrreat job teaching us! Remember when we’re old we can say anything & getaway with it! Lol Gods blessing with your new baby! 😘
Pump a little lemon zest into the butter mix 🤌🏼 lemon juice flavour burns away so you have acidity but not much lemon flavour but the oils of the zest release wit the heat and you get all that lemony goodness 😊
Love your video. Just subscribed! I really don’t know much about being Mennonite, but I love the traditional roles of the women being home makers and focusing on family. I can’t help but think they are much more content and live simpler and more fulfilling lives.
You're doing a wonderful job, I will definitely try your recipes. I have a suggestion for you, if you place a damp towel or dish cloth under your cutting board, it won't move around and will help you to conserve energy. I have subscribed and love what I see.
Very much enjoy your cooking videos. I have never used shop bought grated cheese - don't know what the coating is and far more expensive (here in UK it is).
I am so blessed by you! I love your personality and it warms my heart that when you talk to us, it is like you know us all! 💕 you are beautiful and charismatic!
Your Sunday lunch is a LOT like ours. I'm not from a Mennonite home but the recipes and everything are very similar. I make my turkey like that as well. The butter under and on top of the skin makes it so delicious!
As a Holdeman Mennonite our traditional Sunday lunch is pretty much the same although like you said, everyone kinda make their own variation and favorites
Is this potato dish recipe also referred to as "funeral potatoes" to some? Thanks! Everything looks so good & what a great channel I just discovered. 🥰
I just discovered your channel today. What a treat. Both my parents grew up in Mennonite Brethren homes in Canada and my Mum was a fabulous cook. I love the music in this video. I love how you talk to all of us, like we are in the kitchen sitting on a bar stool. I’m praying God continues to bless your viewers through you and that He blesses you and yours as well. You’re doing a great job! I am 67. If you need a spare Grandma to pray for you, count me in! 😊
I love that, I want everyone that watches my videos to feel like they're just sitting at my counter, chatting with me! Your comment made me smile so much! Also, always need more grandma's💕
My mamaw and papaw are Presbyterian and this is is what Sunday lunch looks like. They usually have more veggies from the garden/freezer/canning and pies from that too but very similar! Lots of Saturday prepping!

Great video, good job! I have a few cookbooks ‘ Mennonite girls can cook!’ and I enjoy them. It’s definitely rich cooking. I love the bread and soup recipes. I am Ukrainian and I cook a lot as well from a young age. I feel like sharing this on my page so that millennial girls can learn a thing or two lol!! Wow you seem like such a sweetheart! You make cooking a whole chicken seem not so terrifying lol (I can burn tea lol) thanks for your awesome video. God bless you and keep you and yours safe!
I used to make chicken like that, It's actually really nice if you put sliced lemon under the skin too (on top of the butter) You made me tired just watching you work so hard!
My family makes a similar potato casserole but we mix the potatoes, cheese and cream of chicken sauce together, and top it with butter soaked cornflakes and its so delicious. Adding a teaspoon of Beau monde spice really adds alot of flavor too.
If you have a food processor you can use that to shred cheese. Or just do what I do and have my husband, who has plenty of muscles for it, shred a ton at one time 😂 everything looked amazing and definitely things we would make any day.
Just seeing you. My youngest son's birthday was next in line. I asked what he wanted for his birthday. He replied peanut butter, (bc it is his favorite thing Ever.) Loving your channel and this video! You inspired me to start "Sunday Lunch" at our home after church! Please keep doing this! You could do "What's for Sunday Lunch/Dinner?"
First time watching, and as I am vegan I would not normally have been interested but I do like to prepare a special meal for Sabbath Dinner so was curious. My heart was warmed by your hard work and efficiency and I am sure your family and guests were blessed. I pray, sweet girl, that you will be in health with your pregnancy and have a safe delivery!
Vegan here too but still interested! Wendy, you could veganize all of this easily and make a seitan loaf (make it like a roast beef-yum!) for the “meat”. Hmm maybe i should start a channel haha.

Well, some of us signed up for your Ted Talk, lol. Just subscribed! What a lovely video, and I completely agree that fresh grated has a better consistency, and imo, taste. I think the anti-caking agent added to preshredded is the problem.
Recipes are the one thing that has no copywriting. Recipes are shared throught the world willingly. Chefs inspire each other.
Pot Luck Potato Casserole
8 med boiled potatoes shredded
1/3 cup melted butter

Yes it’s better as store bought they add saw dust so it doesn’t stick... definitely better to grate yourself 😊
My mother in law put her cheese in the freezer (not frozen solid) to make grating easier.
