Counsell was told that 2 years from now we’re making a strong run for the World Series.
When your players are under performing and you keep running out the same lineup every game and your being paid 7M a year hell yes your responsible.
My thing is... The team defense and overall team baserunning has fallen off big time. I know he can't run the bases for them or field the fly balls for them but I mean fuck. If a mfer loafs and gets thrown out at 3 bc they're an idiot and misjudge the play or if they miss a routine pop up, can't he bench someone? I get it.. it's the MLB and you can't just do that to adults. But at what point does it just become accepting poor effort which also is not cool. It seems like there's an error or stupid decision on the basepaths every game. And I'm not talking about willy Harris waiving someone around 3rd only to have them thrown out by a mile. Idk man.. they just look poorly coached on some nights. Maybe I'm just frustrated.

Manager matters, Pat Murphy of the brewers decisions and aggressive style has helped them to be 17 over 500. Also the starting pitching has been decimated. C+ LOL

David Ross is busy fishing and cashing checks. A+, indeed!
You need to face reality. Murphy was the brains behind the success, not Counsell. The way the Brewers clubhouse and players respect Murph and his philosophy is evident he was the brains. They are even allowing him to play agressive small ball which we are seeing the Cubs being restricted by Counsell for.
Why did they wait so long to promote him and why wasn’t he hired by another organization? The idea that the assistant manager was the puppet master seems weird.
Idk how to grade Counsell. The team is garbage in pretty much every area.

Based on what we (Cubs fanbase) have seen thus far, he's definitely not worth that contract he was so graciously given by Jed/Cubs ownership. Every time I listen to his pre/post game interviews I have to think to myself, "This is the highest paid manager in MLB?!?"
Wouldn’t counsell have evaluated the team before signing on and thinking he could do something with it?
CC was not able to bring in His own Coaches, He was saddled with the same roster that Jed constructed and Ricketts gave Jed over 230M to build this roster, The blame ends with 2 culprits, Jed for horrible roster construction and the Players who as a whole is an average bunch playing nearly across the board like mutts. Cubs need to aggressively sell and allow Counsell to bring in His own Coaches and have more input on roster construction going forward.
That's on Craig Counsell, himself. During negotiations, he had ALL the power. He should have demanded full control over his coaching staff, some control over the roster. You can't agree to a deal, then complain about it.
@rixter719 he had no power in that negotiation, lol had he one a world series, maybe. This was purely take this team to the promised land and on a prove it basis.
You give Counsell a "C", Ryan? Really? Last night the Cubs were down 2 in the ninth. Counsell sends up TWO pinch hitters: Wisdom to LEAD OFF, and David Bote after him. WHY? Why not hit the guy most likely to hit a bloop first, then the guy most likely to hit a blast second??
That was very puzzling to me.
BTW, Wisdom grounded out, Bote blooped a single, and was stranded.
I don’t disagree that a manager doesn’t make much difference……a game here or there……but the question then becomes…….why in the hell did the Cubs break the bank with a record setting contract for him? Just a ridiculous decision to overpay him when nobody else was bidding up salaries for more accomplished managers.
Don't FOOL yourself..The Manager makes a BIG Difference If the team is good enough ,where HAving a Good Manager matters..Two problems here..The Cubs have not been good enough..And Neither has Counsell..So that's why it only seems like the Manager does not matter.
As a Brewers fan, Counsell was successful in Milwaukee and is managing the same way for you guys, it just shows how bad your guys’ clubhouse culture is 😂
Wow. Finally a Brewers fan who doesn't sound completely stupid. You'd think Counsell never managed winning teams before listening to most of them. Clubhouse culture and a poorly constructed roster from a front office who hasn't fielded a playoff team in a full season since 2018 are reasons.
I look at from a financial decision. You fire someone and hire someone with a 5 yr $50 million contract. My expectations are a lot higher. C is too high as result.
Why would you want to cut the guy any slack ? He's the guy that fills out the lineup card every day , he's supposed to help motivate these players . When a guy's in a tough stretch you give him a couple days off , not stick him out there every night to embarrasse himself . When your closer blows two saves in a row why put him out there for a third blow ? For whatever reason the players don't seem to respond to Counsell , and I don't think they were thrilled with the way the manager change went down . Ross was really well liked by those guys , and they missed tne playoffs by a game with basically the same team . But any way you look at it the Brewers don't seem to be missing Counsell at all and actually doing better which leads me to believe that Counsell was highly overrated . It must have been all his success in the playoffs . Wait that ain't it . Well it was Hoyer's decision so what do you expect ?
Counsell is a FFFF, the players don't want to play for him.
That's not a bad theory. Something's going on. Maybe they're pissed over what happened with Ross.

Counsell Grade D...Has been Boring..And has lack Innovation..Puts out the same line up every game?..Coincidentely today he changed it..First time in weeks and we WIN BIG!..COINCIDENCE?..I don't think so. I'v been calling for more Bote and Wisdom and finally we get it..And a win..Neither was great but..Both had hits..Bote's hit was the key to the game early..Before Happ iced it..Bote got an extending innning hit with one out..That double lead to two more runs scoring..It's what the Cubs have been missing for all these games.

The Brewers should run straight thru the playoffs just listening to their fans. Always a playoff team before under Counsell but apparently he's garbage and the Brewers were just winning in spite of him. No way are they gonna lose in the division series yet again
