@@johnm5714, I agree, a full plywood backer is cheap insurance and easy to do. Wrap some carpet around it, if you don't like the looks of it. Bouncing on the road when trailering is extremely stressful. A backer plate will take away any worries..
@@OutOnTheReef, You are very welcome. It's best to loosen the bolts, and lift up the layers to put the sealer between them. It looks better, and won't ever come out. Might as well use all the sealer you have, as it goes bad once you open it. Again, thanks for the great video!

Excellent installation, I am concerned about some of the rough weather and conditions that you encounter when out to sea. You may may need to see about further securing the shaft during your crossings. Just a thought. Awesome content by the way!
I’m thinking about getting one but after this video I think I’m gonna hold off until the technology gets better. Our fishing grounds are 50 to 80 miles offshore and I think it will just not last these conditions. Also one more thing to trip on.
Enjoyed the practical approach and install. Like another commenter I have a 22ft Stabi so i look forward to seeing it perform offshore and in the shallows. If you can get good footage of the set up working in current and wind qhile providing your feedback that will be worth watching.
Very nice job Captain. You're going to absolutely love that! i pilots are the best marine invention since the live well. Can't wait to see the next wiring video. Make sure you install an inline fuse. Seems some people don't for some reason.!?
Very slick installation. Your video was great! I have a similar installation for the exact same motor and shaft length. I don’t know if I can rotate it under the bow rail to stow so I was considering notching the rail. Thank you.
I just had a 1/2 in aluminum plate fail. The machine shop sold me cast aluminum. Said it was some high grade stuff. Dropped an 80 in rhodan in the drink. Your plate looks good
Sorry to hear about your plate Captain I know it's very frustrating after you do everything to have a part failure. And my aluminum plate I got it Amazon it was $74 and a hat gray reviews that's why I rather buy my stuff at Amazon because of the reviews of consumers before me. Thanks for your comment captain
Cast aluminum is brittle... BUMMER! Always use rolled or forged aluminum if it will face stress, bending or impact, but I guess you know that now. Sorry to hear about that loss!
Great videos ! This may have already suggested but backing plates or at least fender washers added to the under side of deck to spread the torque to avoid cracking the fiberglass.
What a great video. I'm installing a similar motor, on a not so similar boat, but this video explains and shows everything in so much detail that ideas for my install are flying. Thanks man!
I think a water channel between the plate and the edge of the hull would keep water from pooling on the corner, also since you are doing saltwater on a permanent mount, I would advise you to retreat the aluminum with alodine and zinc chromate, paint alone will not be enough corrosion protection. I treat aluminum parts for aircraft that work the oil wells in the gulf. Great video and nice boat.
thanks Tim and i have the high bow rail it would not work with the low bow rail cap , i only have inches to spare, what's the Hight on your bow rail cap
That is awesome I would have loved to seen you , I use Noah road all the time to go to Port Canaveral is the best road to cut through . Soon you'll see the video on how the Minn Kota work at Port Canaveral captain and thank you for being an awesome viewer off my channel and also I'm your neighbor LOL
Thanks a lot! Ed i had over a month on thinking how i was going to do this installation, hope this video helps others because there was nothing in RUclips that could help me to do my type of installation, thanks for watching cap.
@@riggs5849 yes but Minn Kota discontinued that part they say they no longer need it that they're engineers saw that was not necessary so they discontinued
Suggestions; Next time...use 1/4 or 5/16" plate (unless you get free metal). Put a radius on all the exposed square corners and use a router and a radius bit to round off the long edges. Better to not paint, just let the aluminum weather to gray and whiten it with Aluminum Brightener now and then. Avoid using silicone as it can promote corrosion, better to use a polyurethane sealer. Lube all your stainless hardware with "Super TefGel" to guarantee you can take things apart in the future.

Having added an 82lb (24 volt) Minn Kota Riptide with Co-pilot/Autopilot to my Walkaround, you may encounter issues with battery usage (you will need to install another battery charger and get quality AGM batteries that can take a beating and will not Off-gas while charging like Lead Acid batteries). Your boat, as does mine, sits much higher above the water, and creates a large provide for the wind and waves to push and change the angel of the boat. It is going to require a lot of trolling motor adjustment (left/right) to stay anchored on a single location in moderately windy days. I also had many, many boards replaced on my Minn kota Riptide. The trolling motor just starts turning (except when on Autopilot) and that appears to be an indication that the board it bad. I hope it works out for you Good luck
Awesome suggestions captain and yes the 82 lb Works harder and waste more battery because it has less power when you go to 36 volts I believe for being a bigger motor you waste less battery I think you're on the power. I just released my battery is deletion in charger can you please look at this video on my channel the recent one and let me know if this equipment is a good one and also the batteries they are AGM
Nice Installation. I like it very much. Well done. Cap.. I came across a product called Zipwake. Installed on my boat.. its incredible the difference vs trimtabs and its fully automated.
I have the same minnkota and you will want to get a trolling motor support. Because the shaft is so long the head unit can hit the deck when stowed and travelling in rough seas. Ram mounts as well as anglers pal make them and can be purchased on amazon. I use the anglers pal so I don’t have to install anything on the motor. It is a must to save the motor.
You are freaking amazing Captain. You made that look so easy. I have the same boat and looking to put a trolling motor on. I was going to go with the 80 thrust instead of the 112. Any thoughts on that? Great job sir.
I don’t like how it sticks out past the rub rail. Hopefully it doesn’t become a problem for you when you’re docking up against pilings. Minnkota makes a quick release mount that’s very nice and easy to install you could have use that on top of your riser plates this would’ve made it so that you could remove the Minnkota anytime you want for storage or security or if you just want to move it out of the way during docking procedures.
Good deal. Only thing is I would make a support for the head. Shaft is very long and in rough seas that head migh vibrate up and down, so I would make a base or something where that head can rest on while at rough seas. 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Captain thank you for the great suggestion you are awesome and yes I already have a part for this I just need to install it and soon you'll see it on a video what part I chose for this and thank you for looking out for me Captain you're awesome
I'm getting ready to install a bow mount trolling motor on my Grady White walk around cuddy. Similar to your boat I'm going to have to do a bracket and I also have a tall bow rail like your boat. Its been 3 years now, are there any changes you would make to how you did the installation? How has that Rust-Oleum paint held up? Thanks for all the great videos. I've stolen several of your ideas.
Thank you, captain. I really appreciate you. Watching my channel and yes, use my ideas and make them better. And there's nothing I would change. The pain is okay if you have to touch up later. There's no big deal, captain, but I will do it all over the same. And I hope yours come out great
Wow! That was a very clean install. I've been looking for a video like this as I'm considering doing the same thing. This gives me great confidence and detailed instruction on how to go about it. You've got a new subscriber, can't wait to see what else you have on the channel. Can you show how you setup the battery bank and went about the wiring? Also, where did you get the start board and aluminium plate? Great video!
I will show you how to wire everything and I have the links of every item that I used in this videos on the description below captain I hope it helps you on your installation and welcome on board my channel👍👍
Only error I heard was 3 100 amp batteries giving you 300 amps...... what you will end up with is 36 volts and 100 amp hours. I have 3 120AH batteries and I get about 5-6 hours of stand alone use from my ulterra 112 in my 23ft cuddy. Amazing units. You'll love that motor.
Well the only difference between me and you Captain is that I have a onboard generador and i will have a 20amp 3 bank charger, that way I can stay longer in the water. And what's the actual weight fully loaded on your boat captain? And are your batteries AGM that makes a big difference
@@OutOnTheReef My dry weight is 3900 I'd estimate loaded with gear, fuel, and people i hit 4500 to 5000lbs. So you will distribute 20amps across 3 batteries? So 7ah per battery. So let's pretend you have your motor at 5 out of 10. Meaning a roughly 27ah draw. Minus your 7ah charge you're at about 20ah usage. Meaning about 5+ hours of use. I actually use a 2k watt inverter to pump some juice back into my batteries through my onboard 40a charger while I run my main engine. These are truly amazing units and I've always gotten more time on the water than advertised but it's better not to push your luck especially when you have the ulterra that requires juice to stow.

Capt. It's been a while since you did the installation and I have to congratulate you on how very professional you did it amazing and wow how you installed the batteries. Thanks for the video very informative. Would it be possible to ask you for a favor please, my boat like your boat have rails where I would be installing the same model Minn Kota but because of the shortages it might be months when I receive mine. The favor if you are able is to measure from the bottom of trolling motor to the very top to see if it's going to clear the rails, I only have 15" from the flat portion of the bow to the bottom of the rail. If it doesn't clear I have to find another place to install it. I looked everywhere for the complete dimensions but I can't find them anywhere at all. Thank you in advance.
thank you Luis for watching and in your case you have the short rail mine is about 22 inches ,sadly the way i installed mine will not work for you because i only have 2 inches of clearance to retrieved my minn kota cap. your next move is cutting the bow rail witch i would not do because it will lose strength. hope this info helps cap.
@@OutOnTheReef thanks for answering the question I really appreciate it. I agree I wouldn't cut the rail I may have to move the motor over to the right of the bow instead of installing closer to the center that way it may clear the rail by installing a 1/2" aluminum plate to hold the motor forward. I really like the way you do your installations a lot of people can learn from your neatness and over engineering, I do the same I better be safe than sorry while on the water.

Nice job capitan, as usual you pay attention details, you plan ahead before you do your work and it paid off, looks very professional. Hope you get the batteries soon so you can install them and go for a trip.

Hey captain how is the rust oleum paint holding n the aluminum after two years? Very nice installation. Que bueno somos machete😁
Looks very nice Capt. It will be something much easier than deploying and retrieving an anchor. We love ours...
i agree this will be my #1 way to anchor from now on⚓👍
Excellent installation, I am concerned about some of the rough weather and conditions that you encounter when out to sea. You may may need to see about further securing the shaft during your crossings. Just a thought. Awesome content by the way!
Thank you Captain and I already got a mount that secures the schacht I will show it to you in a future video soon thank you for the heads up
I’m thinking about getting one but after this video I think I’m gonna hold off until the technology gets better. Our fishing grounds are 50 to 80 miles offshore and I think it will just not last these conditions. Also one more thing to trip on.

Thank you.
Yes cap if dont have a bow rail over 22 inches high it will not work but cutting the bow rail is another option cap. Thanks for watching ⚓️
Captain watching you do your install looks very good.
Wow, thank you but it was a lot of thinking and im not that smart lol
That's a great idea! Scot thanks for your awesome suggestion
I use marine plywood cut to the shape I need and use it to support/distribute the pressure and works well and cheap
What a great video. I'm installing a similar motor, on a not so similar boat, but this video explains and shows everything in so much detail that ideas for my install are flying. Thanks man!
Awesome, thank you! cap. and hope your install comes out great ,and thanks for watching my channel,👍👍⚓
Me and you are thinking the same I just put some Marine adhesive there and it looks great captain and thank you for the heads up really appreciate it
Nice install. I have looked at many of these installs with rails. wanting to install one on mine with rails uncut.
thanks Tim and i have the high bow rail it would not work with the low bow rail cap , i only have inches to spare, what's the Hight on your bow rail cap

Nice install. I have the same motor my instructions said to use a different nut in salt water use.
You mean the nut that holds the propeller?
Yes much bigger than yours supposed to be an anode.
Lube all your stainless hardware with "Super TefGel" to guarantee you can take things apart in the future.
very great tips thanks captain👍👍👌⚓

I hope it works out for you
Good luck
Awesome suggestions captain and yes the 82 lb Works harder and waste more battery because it has less power when you go to 36 volts I believe for being a bigger motor you waste less battery I think you're on the power.
I just released my battery is deletion in charger can you please look at this video on my channel the recent one and let me know if this equipment is a good one and also the batteries they are AGM
Here is my new video of the battery and changer.
Please let me know when you think

I never heard of it but I'll look it up when I have time thanks for the sharing it with me Captain
Good job Captain.
thank you Phillip⚓👍
I have the same minnkota and you will want to get a trolling motor support. Because the shaft is so long the head unit can hit the deck when stowed and travelling in rough seas. Ram mounts as well as anglers pal make them and can be purchased on amazon. I use the anglers pal so I don’t have to install anything on the motor. It is a must to save the motor.
Awesome suggestion captain and yes I already got one I will be installing it soon thank you for the heads up cap .
In the meantime, you can run a bungee cord from the top of the motor around the railing to support it.
@@thilltony3362 I already purchased amount that you going to love when you see it

You are freaking amazing Captain. You made that look so easy. I have the same boat and looking to put a trolling motor on. I was going to go with the 80 thrust instead of the 112. Any thoughts on that? Great job sir.
@ReelGZ hello cap the 80 is not enough you will need the 112 the pilothouse is heavy boat cap, and thanks for your positive feedback cap.

@@samsmith9684 sorry to hear that cap. Keep looking , hope you get it soon
I don’t like how it sticks out past the rub rail. Hopefully it doesn’t become a problem for you when you’re docking up against pilings. Minnkota makes a quick release mount that’s very nice and easy to install you could have use that on top of your riser plates this would’ve made it so that you could remove the Minnkota anytime you want for storage or security or if you just want to move it out of the way during docking procedures.
very true cap but i want this trolling motor all the time with me because i will use it on every trip
but thanks for the great suggestion cap.

thanks buddy and was a lot of work😉⚓👍
Very nice job!
Thank you very much! Cap.

And I hope yours come out great
Great job!
Thank you Captain is very appreciated
Great install. The only thing I would have done differently is chamfer the holes in the fiberglass to prevent spider cracks in the future.
Great idea cap. thanks👍
