this is the best definition of life, starts out slow, simple then it gets more and more complex, and that one note that is carried out through our the whole song😳

That note is E Flat. It represents that ever growing shadow. Every part plays it at one point or another

The story Hazo wrapped this piece around is outstanding. He had us play the song, and then he told us the story, and had us play the song again.. I have never heard such dramatic change in the way a group of people played their instruments in my life. It was amazing. I'll never forget it.

I love Hazo's ballads. Finishing them always feels like finishing a good book series

this piece is so lovely and well arranged. and i thought the oboeist solo at the end added a melancholic touch to the music

+Catie Monroe? best of luck! i played this last year and from what i remember, i had a hard time hitting some of the notes at the right octave so i took a bunch of it down. i mean, i really wasn't as comfortable with the piccolo as i am now, so all the songs i played ended up like that, but depending on how much you play i guess you'll be fine. kind of just go for it

Abe Lincoln Lover Thanks! I'm pretty comfortable with it. I started picc in like June. I also play the Stars and Stripes forever picc solo. I'm doing pretty well with it so far. But octave jumps are a pain

@KoolitsKitKat ~ My wind ensemble just performed this and like 6 other pieces of his with him today. He's such a great guy and it was an honor to work with him. We had practiced with him all week and everyone enjoyed him so much.

I'm getting ready to play this at the NM All-State concert this weekend. I play the flute, and am so excited to play this amazing piece...the only part I'm not looking foward to playing is the 32nd notes at 2:40. Yikes! :P

Took me a while to load this since I moved recently and don't have fast internet anymore, and was wondering why this was in my history. But my heart lifted when I recognized it! I played this in my school band when I was in middle school, and the thing I most remember is the part I played (Baritone/Tuba) at 3:10 , along with the singing at the end we all joked around about. Great memories! Thanks for keeping this up!

@bpckplay92 I'm sure by the time I respond, you've gotten much better but still, don't be afraid. Just try to practice as much as possible and maybe even perform mini concerts for friends or family to help prepare for solos such as ones like this.

@otakukid911 That's shitty luck....unfortunately I get bad luck too, before every concert I play, it has to go in for repairs because it wouldn't play :( Then I have to borrow an oboe :P

the oboeist at the end wasnt particularly pleasant
he/se was out of tune, not sweet at all, and had zero vibrato
