D-Fens at least thought of other people, unlike Everyone around him. . . Except the Caretaker. I did way too much of an analysis on one of the videos of the ending.

He's the only one with some clearheadedness to carry out his mission, to do what's right, despite his wife's bitching. Even D-fens was too obsessed and self-absorbed to the point it killed him. Basically a whole lot of shitheads, a true testimony to whatever this form of urban/commercial/non-communal America is.
This film was really a callback to the hard edged cinema of the early 70s, before the goofy action genre became popular. Dark commentary on a bleak society, an anti hero protagonist and no happy ending. A very well written, directed and acted film.

Then everything becomes an explosive combo and upon realizing it we prefer to implode. How many times the stupidity of a sick and increasingly individualistic society obliges us to want to be Michael Douglas with a gun in hand ... But we breathe deeply, and it passes us ...

I personally like individualism. I dont have to rely on incompetent people who want to take from me the things that ive worked for because they dont have it. Michael Douglas's character, "D-fense" has the general symptoms of boarderline personality disorder. "The character being portrayed" was constantly scaring his wife with his emotional outbursts so she divorced him taking thier daughter with her with him moving back into his mothers house. Its a movie, a fictional story made up to entertain people for a few hours. Its not real life go outside and do something more productive with your life. Teach yourself how to cook or something instead of blaming others because you dont know how to do anything essential to being capable of maintaining your own life. If the system collapses those who cant take care of themselves are dead weight and will starve waiting for a hand out
I was maybe that little girl’s age when this movie came out, only heard about it through the Iron Maiden song a couple years ago. When I finally got around to watching it...it just resonated with me in some bizarre way. It was only after I found the reviews of it from back when it first came out that I understood why. “Oh great, another movie about how hard it is to be a white man.” I realized that the world’s exactly the same now as it was in the movie, but even more so. And I realized that there really isn’t that much separating me from the guy in the movie. “Falling Down”, “Man on the Edge”...it’s funny, because that realization felt an awful lot like looking over the side of a cliff.

One of the best movies about the frustrations of the modern world sometimes it just eats away at you, The music so fits the movie I know it was written after the films release but it's still damn good, I think this movie might need an updated remake too.
Yes because a remake of this movie in the 2010s or 2020s wouldn't just be about how much of an evil heterosexual cis gendered male christain he is. I mean, it is clear he had a dark side to begin with. The movie isn't subtle about it. There's a reason his wife was afraid of him, a reason he lost custody and visitation rights. But the moral of the film is that they took a little problem and made it a huge one by grandstanding about it. Even after he snaps he clearly isn't a monster. Not even the badguy. Just the not-so-nice guy.
The part that hits home is when he says and now he can’t get birthday presents! I like birthdays so it makes me want to crush an empty plastic bottle!!!
There’s a clever duality between the two. You can see by the way his wife and his colleagues treated him, the cop was just as close to snapping as D-fens. It’s through D-Fens actions that the cop learned how to keep his act together and stand his ground against the system.
Shoving and pushing the clam guy who’s ready to explode with a bag full of guns probably isn’t a smart idea, oh well. I don’t think he’d snap anytime soon, right? Right?
