Great video. I have the lens and Ulanzi case for my iPhone 7Plus but now have an iPhone 12 Pro Max but can’t seem to find the Ulanzi case for the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Do they make one yet?
Echoing "Gabangang" and his comments, I must say that your review of the Ulanzi Anamorphic Lens is a total eye-opener. I have just acquired an iPhone Xr with 256GB and am looking forward to our next excursion (my wife and I) locally in Malaysia during this global pandemic. This lens is going to be something that will allow me to expand the limited range of the iPhone Xr which only has one forward camera and limitations. Your review is detailed and easy to understand as well. Thanks for your efforts on this video. Much appreciated. Cheers.
I have the Ulanzi anamorphic. Great fun for not a lot of money. Sadly, I use an Android phone that nobody bothers making cases for (my phone is also not a lot of money) so the most reliable way to mount the lens is with the Ulanzi U-Rig Metal.
Please answer my concern question. Do your ulanzi phone case leaves mark on the back of your phone? Since they have some patterns inside the case. And one of my friend got marks from spigen case that have the same patterns inside his case after long periods.
Is there a good way of unsharpen mobile videos? The image is still to crisp for me looking for that nice cinematic look. When you switch over to the camera that is filming you, the image just becomes buttersmy smooth compared to the mobile video
How do you address the barrel distortion on the anamorphic lens in post? I don't like the way the walls etc curve like a fisheye. Is that easily addressable in software? I am a photographer so video editing is new to me. Thanks!
Ah no problem. Is it black (gen 1) or gray (gen 2). Gen 1 is significantly cheaper where I am (22 pounds!) But I don't know if its worse/same? Yours looks 🔥🔥🔥 without much distortion. Is yours black or gray?
I think this is the 1st gen one. That's why you got the metal storage. Cuz I compared it with mine, my friend (that brought 2nd gen) and also other reviewer. Still there's no much a different with 1st and 2nd gen. Only the storage case and color.
This is an amazing review! As a hobbyist, as much as I crave the camera gear, I would record in default app, and keep the subject in centre most of the time and then later in my video editing i would cut a bit from top and bottom to make it look 'wide' ...what do you say about this?
Thank you very much! It means a lot. As modern cameras record video in 1:78.1 (16:9) cropping into 2:35 is perfectly normal and is done throughout the film industry. It's been strange not having to do it for this video with the anamorphic lens! How do you edit your video?
@@David_Addison i usually never shot for others i have few videos for myself, i recently purchased halide and spectre seeing one of your videos, literally my first paid app in 10 years lol..anyhow, then i tried video editing, i video edit on PC with davinci but for phone i tried vllo..it's decent
I have a Huawei P30 Pro Smartphone, if I buy a ulanzi 1.33x anamorphic lens for it, will I have to get a special case or special adapter so this lens can be put on my Huawei P30 Pro Smartphone, by the way, a great app for video is Super 16, the app developer is Dmitry Shatilov, the colours on this app is mouth watering beautiful.
There are 3 generations of this lens, the 2nd is a different colour, is this the latest generation one or the first? Also, have you tried any of the Apexel Anamorphic lenses? I am curious how they compare. My only hesitation on the Ulanzi is the very pronounced lens flare; I prefer a more subtle look.
My apexel Ana was used with p30 pro (and sold along with it). It was good. Tight screw as compared to my 3rd gen ulanzi. Subtle lens flare in apexel but I still remember loving it (it was my first Ana lens)
I couldn't agree more. I cringe every time I see the word cinematic being used. Next to brexit, it must be the most over-used word in the english language. Also, I can well do without those awful blue flares. The Moondog Labs anamorphic does the job very nicely without overly introducing flares...
The intro put me off directly; the initial static shot of the sign without the lens and then the edited, color corrected footage with the same sign with the lens... pathetic.
Can’t believe what we can do with gear that fits in our pockets! Have you shot, or want to shoot, anamorphic?
I worked on cruise ships for 4 years.

Is there a way to tame the blue lens flaring?
Nope, that's what Ulanzi known for
great review mate!
Claudio Aliaga cheers dude!

Yeah dude, gotta mount it how you gotta mount it 😎
Ulanzi did some for more "mainstream" Android devices. I was fortunate to have huawei p30 pro when the first gen ulanzi Ana was released.
Looks awesome.. Is it compatible with huawei p30 pro?
Love your presentation mate
Thank you Simon!
Does it widen the video. What is the viewing angle
Great looking video mate. Put a Nd filter on that and use a gimbal and you get some sweet footage.
You can’t do both with a gimbal sadly, i tried with my dji om 4 and the gimbal cant properly balance.
@@nasyithharits6678 you could add counterweight no?
Is there case for itouch 6th generation?

My Ulanzi case doesn’t leave any marks.
@@David_Addison ah thank u so much! This bothers me a lot since spigen case leave marks
I love ulanzi's phone case compared to apexel's. Looks nice with and without the lens attached too
@@theuglywriters yes, but the patterns inside the case make me concern

Are there any free apps that can convert the squashed footage into wide-screen. All the ones I find are paid apps. Thanks!

🤷♂️sorry!

Is yours black or gray?
Haha thanks! It’s matte black. I mentioned mine does distort though, just have to avoid or embrace it
Cheap lens definitely expected. Even the more expensive lens sandmarc, moment have it. Mooondog doesn't though. Anyway there is a new third gen one.
I bought and sold each Gen ,now rocking the third one with virtually no more distortion 🤗
what gimbal did he use from 3.35-3.38s video?

is this lens applicable for galaxy note 10 plus sir?
I don’t understand which lens I would need to record live guitar playing subject, anamorphic or Tele?
I’m tempted to buy it!
Go for it! It’s great 👍
Thanks this is awesome. 🙏🏻
Great video.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
Wow .. thanks for sharing that simple technic to de-sqeeze anamorphic photos in Photoshop 😎👍
too bad i can't find it anywhere
Ulanzi G2 or G3?
Have not got a clue!
i think it's Gen1
Go for G3. But be aware. The blue lens flare is strong on this one. True 1.33 though 👍
@@paiibamboo yes, after comparing all the reviewer and mine. I could confirm it is 1st gen.
I tried on on iPhone SE 2020 with Moment App and got very out of focus left and right and a weird ripple effect on moving. Was this autofocus?
Might be the stabilisation

Ahh nice. I don’t edit on my phone at all. I’ll edit on a mobile device when FCPX comes to iPad lol.
@@David_Addison tried lumafusion? :O
I’ve heard about it but it’s not something I’ve considered. My MacBook Pro runs FCPX and I’m happy with it.

good job mate hey from manchester too :)
Manc and proud 😎
Why is your website called Pisicul Meu? That means "My cat" in romanian... It's so confusing lol.
"Stay curious” lol...
Thanks for the x 1.33 tip.. In videos you can simply stretch the X axis to 133% ;)
You’re welcome 😊 but with video you actually have to decrease the x axis to 75.19% to maintain the widescreen look
@@David_Addison Well, the video I saw the guy showed a squeezed video.. so he stretched out from 100 to 130% and it seemed ok.. =)
You'll get the same 2:35.1 aspect ratio but you won't get the black bars at the top and bottom of the frame.
@@David_Addison aaaah ok.. now i got it :) thanksss
How about the real ratio 1.33x or 1.44x

After watching your review, Pisicul Meu, I wanna buy an anamorphic lens!
Haha mulțumesc!
is it just I or this thing is an anamorphic fisheye? This barrel distortion is quite atrocious.
Content creators that make videos made me hate the word cinematic. Everyone says cinematic 100 times every video. It’s like ok we got it already
I must have the 1st Gen Ulanzi, it is full of Chromatic Abberations, unusable unless you are looking for something 70's style old school
Cinematic word is overused and misundestood. Cinematic is a script not B-roll footage with music. Congrats.
