    Bro you should of went to Izabal that place is filled with many Black people (carribeans) it's like being in Belize or Honduras the none Black people wouldn't look at you as surprisingly as anywhere in Guatemala because there's many of them there(I know this because I've been there several times) and has one the best cultures in Guatemala,it's known to be a place where other Guatemalans go on vacation(kinda like Florida or California)whenever you visit again you should check it out its a really beautiful and tropical place,I really recomend it

    Solo black female traveler here. I will TRY not to write a book :)) But, OMG...Guatemala was the ISH!!! :))) I flew into Belize City recently. That way I could see Belize and also have option to head north to Mahahual, MX and go to Tikal Ruins in Guatemala. Well, I decided to hit up Tikal first. Supposed to only stay 2 nts in Flores, but ended up 8 nts :))) That's how AMAZING Guate was. Was there during Dia de Independencia. Damn there everybody you walk past or encounter greeted you. Very well mannered ppl. Even the kids. I was the only black person there all those days. And I REALLY stood out...rockin an Erika Badu wrap EVERYDAY....NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. They were not racist in any form or fashion. I even had my dinner tab picked up a cpl times by locals. Maybe low key owner or a businessmen? I will never know. The waitress came to say "this gentleman paid your tab." No hidden agenda either time. A BEAUTIFUL GESTURE :))) I even chilled kickin it w/ locals till after 1am. No issues. I may hit up Antigua near Guate City next for Semana Santa in March.

I prolly would have picked up your dinner and picked you up too- with no funny business of course but definitely a very out in the open agenda to get to know you better and have a great night out. Keep having fun cutie.

    Hey brotha, black American woman here. I'm based out of Honduras in the mountains, not the coast, so while there are some blacks here, I'm the only one in my pueblo. I go all over Latin America and I love Guatemala and the Guatemalteco people. They are so friendly and warm and I have never had issues with racism there. If anything, if I can call it an "issue", is all the Don Juans wantin' to get at a sista. This is everywhere. From taxi and bus drivers, store keepers, security and cops. But it doesn't feel threatening. No cat-calling, just heavy flirting. I just smile and keep it moving. The only racism I ever felt was from some white Americans. Just like in the U.S., some are azzholes and some are not. Good to see you here. Keep us informed.

Guatemaltecos are just straight up WELL MANNERED PPL :))) I'm about to give TMI, cause I had some cocktails. But I met a teacher there. He was fr Guate City. His students were close by somewhere. Didnt speak english, but was a nice guy. Had the most sensual, romantic kiss of my life right b4 I left. Just a kiss. Only til I got back to U.S. n he asked for pictures. I need your advice and maybe you can do a video comparing how the personality of even strangers suddenly can feel one knows each other for years. I live in the US. I've been treated poorly just because im very happy, outgoing, smile and around people i know eventually even if we dont meet up outside our professional group. I hug them because i feel very happy. Although i was born in GUA City like yourself im even considered weird in my birth country . Im 5,8 tall and white pale skin. I sometimes feel Im unique in my diverseity in my physical and cultural. I dont fit here because of my Guatemalan cultural personality. In GuA is not so bad but im to pale and tall i feel inadequate although im always treated with love. Im a size 11 in shoes. Women are so short and tiny. Their shoes never work. Im just frustrated. I feel my profession not only has been used against me to judge me as to different to be accepted so Im labeled. I just want to just be looked at for my cultural and i love all people. I would give the shirt of my back to stranger. In America caring too much is labeled as being co- dependent. I just want someone like yourself. That is an American but has had the ability to give teir opinion on social interaction. Is not just the hello and bye. We are very physically expensive. Women hug males and males women. It is not taboo. Its custom. Im just very disappointed. Educated people have too much opinion without true exposure. Books dont project nor truly show the diverse nature betweennus. We are very social, friendly and smile alot. Eenjoy making anyone feel loved, cared for, important and just valued. Truely are Americans scared to be too nice or caring towards each other? Only during catastrophic situations people suddenly unite. Years later back to not even saying hi to the neighbors that see you over a 10 yr span. Truthfully my question is . What is wrong with American culture. So much turmoil between people and just cruelty. Being nice is "WEIRD". Or a symptom of mental illness.
    I feel you are the only one who can actually understand my situation. Unfortunately around me Im the ugly duckling and outcast for being caring

      Maureen Maura MaurEl Adara do as much research as possible about the location you might want to go. You want to search Transportation options, crime, cheapest hotels, plane tickets, being black in these places, etc. Everything matters. Make sure to read blog posts by real people, forums, RUclips videos and more. Talk with people who have traveled before. But most importantly, you got to have confidence. We Fear The Unknown. Be smart and listen to your intuition. You skyscanner.com to find cheap flights. Then you can go to the airline website and book a ticket. Get a passport and save some money. Maake sure to bring more money than you anticipate because you might end up spending more than you planned.

      As a 30 year old Guatemalan.. I have only seen the black community once, and the reason is because they are a couple thousands and they live hundreds of miles away from the city, there is black people here but they are the minority AND ON TOP OF THAT THEIR PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM AN AFRICAN-AMERICAN, so when ladinos or indigenous people look at an actual African-American we are kinda curious. Don't get me wrong there is racism, but is mostly against indigenous communities, our black community is not bothered at no level. Even I with get bullied cuz of my white skin way more than a brown ladino person.

    • @RetroBasementGamingAnime
      @RetroBasementGamingAnime 6 лет назад

      I wouldn't say they're in the minority since a lot of Latinos are a mixture of European (Spaniard) African and indigenous depending on the country. Some are more African than indigenous, or the opposite but it's clear a good number of Latin countries hate their African roots not the people who killed and raped the land, and the people. DNA test have shown that Guatemalteca have some African blood on average but more indigenous and white (Spaniard) but even that depends on the part of the country, etc. I had this guy lie to me saying Guatemala African ancestry was wiped out, and the only ones left were in Belize since it use to belong to Guatemala (I had to set him straight).

    What I dislike about most of these type of videos .There always done by someone from the United States Who believes that you have to be dark skinny or have a dark skin to an African. I watch a video earlier about African in Mexico who are Mexicans. I could not believe it. All Africans do not have the same Complexion and it’s probably been that way for thousands of years.Have you ever heard a white American ask a white American are they pure white? I doubt it very much,from watching programs on DNA on American/Citizens of the US states most of us are not pure anything it’s only some black Americans who are obsessed with this question.

    I’m a black American woman. I studied there for a few weeks while in grad school. We stayed at a university near lake atilian for the majority of the time and a few days in Antigua. Only thing weird that occurred was a random man putting cocaine on my hand & sniffing it off lol but for the most part the trip was lovely.
