This the first time in my lifetime that I’ve seen Southern feature they woodwinds so much.... I remember in the late 90s 2000s not even being able to hear them at all the band was so brass driven...this is amazing they‼️ They blend so well with the trumpets & the band as a whole this year 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I think that may be the issue people have. I have never heard them do it, and I love it, finally the whole ensemble and comes to life and not just the brass
I often thought their woodwinds were just for show. As a woodwind player, you appreciate us when you hear us. All about blend, balance and color(musical not skin tone 🤦🏽)

I knew Southern couldn't stay away from playing this song! I heard JSU's & Tennessee State's version & I say all 3 sounds good to me. SU just plays it with more power & that's cool! But from a musical standpoint all 3 are great arrangements. Just my P.O.V.
Honestly I can say, Southern finally sounds like a real true band. Every part is perfect. Gotta say the trombones part made this song. They band director must have been talking to Bethune-Cookman band director on arrangements. This was the best I've heard SOUTHERN play without blasting notes. Especially the woodwinds finally! High schools even mimicking SU sound. Our haters can say, "SU just loud", all they want, but we know our sound the best of the best. SU sound was created by the legendary, Dr. Isaac Greggs. The sound is a winning recipe, so the sound WILL NEVER CHANGE! BCU copied FAMU concerto sound period, so what that dude said above, sounds stupid AF! SU sound like SU period, and our sound has never changed. Bandheads and fans alike prefer SU sound and arrangements more so than any other HBCU collegiate marching bands sound, and that's why these SU haters always coming to hate and throw shade on our videos. They hate the fact that SU known for having the #1 HBCU collegiate marching band. They feel their MEAC concerto type sound is better than ours...lol. The proof is clear when you compare the Human JukeBox Media Teams RUclips channel subscribers numbers to any other HBCU marching band RUclips channel subscribers. We know the SWAC IS THE PREFERRED CHOICE when it comes HBCU marching bands. FACTS! MEAC bands no where near as popular as SWAC bands, with exception to the NCAT Aggies marching band. As a matter of fact, NCAT the best the MEAC has to offer period, when it comes to a band that's well rounded, on the field and in the stands, and one who's leadership keeps up with the times. NCAT keeps a good playbook and they play popular music, unlike BCU, so they're the GOAT in the MEAC. BCU stuck in the past. They play the same old tired boring songs they've been playing for decades ever since 1966. They need new leadership if they gone be able to compete with ANY band in the SWAC. Sorry Mr. Wells, truth is truth. SU strong on the field, AND in the stands period. We play up to date popular music yearly.

That was absolutely excellent SU. I know everyone says SU just blows with no dynamics but they found all the sweet spots to push the volume. This arrangement is untouchable.
