I feel the same. It’s one of the few movies i would give a 10/10, but the thought of revisiting it kind of scares me. It was such an amazing piece of film because of the direction and tone, and the thing that stands out above everything else is that it makes you feel just as helpless as the parents who just want their children home safe.

It's crazy that Prisoners and Enemy came out the same freaking year! Then Sicario 2015, Arrival 2016, Blade Runner 2049 2017. All expertly crafted films, great casts, sick cinematography, and scores to match. R.I.P. Johann Johannsson. That Sicario score got right under my skin and heightened the tension. A short run time would actually be under 80 minutes. The average movie is between 96 and 101 minutes long. You're just used to alot of modern movies that think they have to make 2 and a half hour borefests. 90 minutes is average movie length. That's what happens when a director hires an editor that actually does his job. I agree though, fantastic film.

Prisoners was the first movie I've seen from Denis Villeneuve and it blew me away. The acting, the cinematography and the music are just amazing! I remember the scene where Jake/Detective Loki rushes to the hospital with the little girl Anna. That breathtaking car ride scene really had me at the edge of my seat. I instantly felt that there was something unique about the movie and in the way Denis directed it. He manages to combine big blockbuster movies with a philosophical approach and a thought provoking plot. The emotions he conveys are as visceral as it can get, doesn't matter if it's fear, sadness, hate, disgust, pain, sorrow, happiness, felicity, content, discontent or awe. He's a truly one of a kind filmmaker.

I’ve always found it fascinating how every director has “their” method of portraying ones suffering or triumph and the conclusion to that characters arc. Sicario invites you to delve into its suspense everytime you watch it as if it's your first time.
Blade Runner achieved a feat which most sequels made a long time after the original movie can't achieve. It is cold, gripping and pressing with the obvious opportunity to reconsider cyberpunk becoming a reality-the linking of science fiction and a dark possibility.
Enemy plays with the viewer's mind-trying to portray to them the kind of abstract and surreal subconscious they encounter everyday.
Arrival is another great movie and so is Prisoners.
Well, he has been able to reflect to the inner thoughts of the human which constantly conflict for survival inside a mind, projecting it on the big screen.

What impresses me most about Villeneuve is the fact that he's consistently managed to put out Oscar worthy movies every year. Prisoners(2013), Enemy(2013), Sicario(2015), Arrival(2016), Blade Runner(2017) and according to reports, he's already done filming his new 'Dune' movie and is now involved in post-production! As a huge Blade Runner fan, when I found out he will direct 2049, I lost my entire mind (of happiness that is) and went into the theater as soon as it launched. It was exactly what I came to expect from him and it left me breathless.
I am personally torn between Blade Runner 2049 and Sicario, with Prisoners coming a close second.
Sicario is pretty much flawless, specifically for the dining table scene (at least as far as I am concerned) and the music ("The Beast" raised inside me some horrors and fears I still can't quite pinpoint). In terms of cinematography, I am in love with his wide angle shots, the way he frames and entire scene in one shot and does not shy away from portraying trauma in an almost mundane yet still very tense way - a quality I find lacking in most film directors who direct big-budget films.
I think the word I am trying to find is 'real' or 'tangible'.
The characters are real/tangible, be they androids of a dystopian future or tough women placed in a spot whose inner workings slither in between the lines of what they think is wrong or right.
I could go on about Villeneuve for hours to be honest, his films have touched me and spoke to me in ways I didn't think movies were capable of anymore.

4:03 "Life's hard choices don't suddenly stop after you've made the right or responsible decision. It's a battle that never ends." This hit me personally. My struggle with depression and thoughts of suicide are still persistent, but just because I did the right thing in the eyes of my family, getting a job, they now believe I'm okay. I will never blame them though. We all have our own battles after all. Stay strong on the path folks!

4:18 I don't see that scene as the pregnant wife trying to control him, but rather she realizing he's back in his old ways and being scared at him for that (the spider seems to be shrinking in defense, as if it were scared, that's why I think of it that way). Either way, Enemy is a very ambiguous film, so there' bound to be different interpretations of it, and the rest of the things you said about it clarified some things I hadn't catch about it.
That's what I wanted to add, but honestly, this is a great analysis on a great director. Great work, man :)
