- Welcome to a very special Friends episode of Talk of Him with Brad and Roger Wilcox! Brad is a professor in the Department of Ancient Scripture at Brigham Young University. As a young man, he served his mission in the Chile Santiago East Mission. He is the author of the book The Continuous Atonement and the Brigham Young University devotional “His Grace Is Sufficient.” Brad currently serves as Second Counselor in the Young Men General Presidency. He and his wife, Debi, have four children and nine grandchildren. Roger has taught seminary and institute in Wyoming, throughout Utah, and at Utah Valley University. One of his most unique assignments was teaching seminary at a youth correctional facility. As a young man, he served his mission in Germany and he and his wife, Moana, served together in the Washington Spokane Mission. They have five children and fourteen grandchildren. Both Brad and Roger grew up in Provo, Utah, except for their childhood years spent in Ethiopia, Africa. They have been presenters at BYU Women’s Conference, youth programs, and workshops for the Church Educational System.
In this discussion with Brad and Roger, we talk about their book, Blessed Are Ye, and discuss how the Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount outline the covenant path. Brad and Roger recount touching personal experiences with everything from popularity to persecution as they bless us all with their spiritual knowledge.
About Blessed Are Ye: Using the Beatitudes to Understand Christ’s Atonement and Grace
Jesus started each Beatitude with the word blessed. It is the English translation of the Latin beatus, meaning “fortunate” or “happy.” However, considering its Hebrew roots, the word can also mean “holy”--even “exalted.” As we study the Beatitudes, they become much more than simply good advice, a code of ethics, or hopeful words for the downtrodden. They can be a holy invitation from Christ Himself to enter a covenant relationship with Him, receive His grace, and become like Him.

We need stake or regional libraries. Every one of these edifying books published by Deseret Books and Seagull etc. should be purchased and distributed and made available so that church members worldwide , whether they have money to buy expensive books or not can partake of the ideas and enlightenment in them. Without money! And without price!! Why should only the wealthy read these things? We do not have access to them in our public libraries. This would be an excellent use of some of those hoarded dollars we’ve all been learning about recently.
I think Roger Wilcox was my institute teacher. I know i met Brad. If he taught institute he was also my teacher.
I was to hear more from Roger. Brad tends to like the spotlight and interrupters a bit.
I love the man, but it was a little hard to listen to this happening repeatedly.
I watched the temple ceremony online and was positively surprised by the liberal vibes I got from the content. The earth being created by a gay couple, Jehova and Michael, was quite an eye opening twist to the story, but it makes total sense if you consider how many artists are gay. 🏳️🌈💪
