Technically, there's only 4 engine sound variants in the game. By adding upgrades (there are 3 engine stages as well as stock), that adds to the total number of engine sounds in the game. So in conclusion, by taking the product of 4 (all engine sounds) and putting it with the 3 engine stages plus stock (per each sound variant), we get a total of 16 engine sounds in the game. Don't even get me started on Underground 2's complicated system ^^
Grifimus UG2 has terrible 3rd tier part sounds for almost all cars even making them sound like completely different engine layout(Tiburon skyline and supra sound like 4 cilylinders at max upgrades in UG2) While here even if its not realistic you atleast get your car to sound much more powerful, no matter what.
Is200 in UG2 has seirdest case, stock it sounds like itself, with q upgrade like Supra, with other like Skyline....and with last like 4 cylinder too...wtf

NFSU2 uses gin file, pretty much like it's successor. But the problem is we cannot see the game internal data structure unlike MW, and Carbon.
Sound system on U2 is used in MW and Carbon, albeit in NFS Carbon it ultilises dual sound; engineaudio and exhaustaudio. Please note that the abk on NFSC isn't same as MW. Prostreet uses other format that is incompatible (txd?)
@@Kacpa2 the tiburon is L4, the skyline got ruined by using V8, and the supra (same thing as skyline)

I noticed in this game that the engine rev in the menu tunnel corresponds to what the car sounds like in-game. So if 2 cars have the same engine rev in the tunnel, they'll sound the same in a race. Eg. the Neon & MX-5 sound the same, 240SX & RSX sound the same, RX-7 & 350Z sound the same etc.
There are still some minor differences between each pair
Almost all of the cars sound the same... It's like a toy cars

My favorite is the Dodge Neon. Although it's really hard to reach 5th gear when it's stock, which means slow too by the way, but upgrading it improves it a lot.

This game had only 4 -5 sound files that why some car can sound indentical either lower or higher pitch.

I love the 3rd upgrade sound of RSX tbh. It's just neat and perfectly pitched. Besides the car's real fun to drive in the game too with tight handling g and high speeds

Don't make fun of me, but I actually find the stock sound of the Tiburon, Impreza RS, Toyota Supra stock sounds the best. I have no idea why, but they kinda have a good pitch and it's pretty easy to imitate.
Best car in game, most satisfying engine sound of all.

the only good engine sounds were both skyline and 350z. Rx7 was supposed to have a rotary engine sound, not a 350z engine.

Did anyone notice that the car sounds in NFS Underground Rivals are ripped off this game??
Because it takes less space that`s why mosly PSP NFS games has 4-5 car sounds.
These are also used in Most Wanted 5-1-0 as well, but slightly less noticeable.
i witnissed that these belongs to the AIs in the game where their car will get upgraded throughout the career mode right? for example the volkswagen belongs to Jose and that civic belongs to AL

Being honest I really hated how this game car sounded, is not because trey weren't accurate, it was more because of how bad the sounds were, I can understand that this was EA's jump to a new format of graphics and more HQ game but compared to what we got in UG2 is such a shame that these sounds were like this

Not really. UG1 atleast has them lively and clutching/rev matching during shifting GT5 and GT6 have these autistic gaps and then zero reaction. Its like it replay reving over and over with no clutching reaction from the engine its incredibly bad. Driver 1/2 and Underground 1 have it much better than Gran Turismo 5/6 just because cars are lively and clutch nicely
