this was a pretty info-heavy video so if you want more jokes and rambling, im sometimes funny here: twitch.tv/FriendlyBaron or go to twitter for video updates :) twitter.com/FriendlyBaron or go to disney.com for more fun but only with your parents permission
(if you reply to this comment i will read it but youtube makes it hard to reply to, if you want a reply then add a new comment to the video, not to this pin, thanks!)

Hi-jacking the pinned comment to say that this technique has a name in real-life racing as well, and it is called "power shifting." This technique means red lining in between gears before dumping the clutch, causing the wheels to spin and getting a bit more power early in the pull for that gear. Sure it's not "double-clutching," but there's no need to make up a new term entirely.

Here's a trick I found YEARS ago, it can only be used with the Bravado Rat Truck (The good looking one, not the old one) or the Vapid Slamvan. You have to have it fully upgraded, then do the Mid Drive Boost and use Franklin's Power and you will do a wheelie. Keep in mind that this was WAY before Rockstar added the wheelie ability to all muscle cars. I'm pretty sure I originally found this in like 2015 or 16 and uploaded it, but it has since been deleted cause I was like 11 or 12 at the time and I wanted to try RUclips back then, I even still have my Elgato.

Double clutching is used to manual cars with straight cut gears. You don't double clutch on a downshift in manuals - you're thinking of heel toe.

    • @singleturbosupra7951
      @singleturbosupra7951 5 лет назад +1

To be accurate, it's not because of straight cut gears that you double-clutch. It's because of sliding mesh gearbox, where you slide the actual gears when shifting. This of course pretty much only works with straight cut gears, but you could have straight cut gearbox that needs no double-clutching. The reason they are not used in typical manual gearboxes is because of the noise they make. But lot of dog-engaged gearboxes, mainly used in racing and motorcycles do use straight cut gears and don't require double-clutching

Drifting can be achieved in gta by lowering the car manually by shooting the rims of the car if it doesnt have bulletproof tires. Once you lower each wheel by 2 elevations you will be able to drift. The best car to do this in is the banshee or the stirling gt. There are a few videos about drifting on youtube if you want to look into this in more depth but i just wanted to expand on the points baron made about drifting in this video.

Right. Dunno if you're going to pay attention to comments on an 11-month old video, but I've got some info if you're interested.
What happens in this video (speed boosting): When pulling the handbrake, the clutch is disconnected causing the engine to rise in revs. When you drop the handbrake, this basically is like a clutch kick, sending a surge of power to the driven wheels. There's probably also a relation between current wheel speed and the speed boost it gains, judging by the driven-wheels difference.
    Kerb/suspension boosting:
Not entirely sure how/why this happens. My initial hypothesis was the tyre compression (there's a flag for that) causing the wheel to match road speed with a smaller radius (= faster rotation) and when decompressing it keeps the rotation speed and thus increases actual speed. But it's flag-independent, and without the flag, the tyre does not compress. It might have something to do with the limited slip diff, but I'm not sure.
    Short-shifting:
When measuring wheel drive force, it can be seen tapering off at about 0.8RPM[1] in any gear higher than first gear. The game usually shifts a bit later, but due to how the automatic transmission is programmed, lifting off the throttle causes it to upshift (like in a real car, less input = earlier upshifts). This puts it in its "optimum[2]" power band again.
[1]: The game engine doesn't use proper RPMs, just a range from 0.0 to 1.0, with 0.2 being idle, 1.0 being redline. Fun fact: In top gear, the car can drive faster than the redline (and calculated top speeds) actually allow.
[2]: The output force is actually just a linear line and drops from 0.8RPM. From just eyeballing it, it seems to drop about 40% in power towards the redline (RPM = 1.0).
Disclaimer: I made the manual transmission script for SP, so I did some research on why some things happen.

Aye fr. Thank you Sir. I've been trying to have someone explain to me how to do the Mid-Drive Boost ("Double Clutching") since it was brought up in the world of GTA V Online. All of my friends either ignored me, gave me false info. or laughed while doing it. I was trying to teach myself but always failed & other videos I've checked out don't do a good job explaining it or showing it like you did. If you come across any other driving tips, I would love it if you uploaded them to RUclips. You've also helped me find another way of getting a perfect wheelie out. Whereas I had my own method, yours is just easier to do.

Double Clutching, though a good way to downshift, comes from a type of trans called a double clutch transmission, where you press the clutch in once to take a trans out of gear, then to put it into gear, you have to let off the clutch and depress it again, using the clutch twice.

In the drifting community we also "stance" the vehicle. This lessens the traction. Double clutch is used more to connect drifts and keep a good line going. In fact I have heard the term "clutch kick" thrown a lot more than double clutch.

It's reference is referring to how since it is automatic transmission. You take a car down a gear when you hit the break then instantly trigger max rpm while in that gear. So you not only get a significant boost due to dropping down a gear. You then transfer the excess RPM into the next gear switch and makes you in turn jump the following gears faster. Hence the name double clutch. Just because you don't have a button to lower the gears. Does not mean they aren't lowering when you slow down and adjust rpms. This is a misconception of GTA automatic transmission mechanics. It's adjustment of gears is still regulated by the player based on their own skills and understanding of a vehicle. There is a downshift in play. This a double clutch. Go first person. Watch it take place. However. Double clutch is only done is super cars. Sports have the easiest witch is E break boost. Super cars that don't do that. Can only be done in 1st and 2nd gears. You also have to trigger it with reverse then e break with perfect timing. You can learn the difference by attempting it in other cars. The pariah is easiest E boost. X80 is hardest double clutch cause goes through the first gear to fast. So you can only do it in 2nd 3rd gears. If you're perfect. 😃

Wiggle boosting works because the game has a friction co-efficient between the wheels and the ground and a weird power distribution model. When wiggling you are allowing a wheel to temporarily speed up slightly and then catch the ground and apply its extra speed to the ground.

I’m part off the ps4 stunt racing community and they all call it double clutching and I’ve spent so much time and energy saying that double clutching is when your in first and want to change into second so you put the clutch in and go into neutral then realise the clutch then put the clutch back then put it in second and release the clutch. Double clutching originated from older vehicles and trucks and busses because their synchros don’t work as well or they don’t have them. (I might be wrong on that). So double clutching is effectively really really slow.

It's best with a fast car that's been upgraded all the way. It should be one with high acceleration- it's not gonna work well with the semi or anything crazy lol.
Also, if you hold the accelerator the whole time when you tap the handbrake, I think you might get the same engine revving without the speed boost, so that makes me think your button combo has to be both well-timed and accurate, plus it works best and most obviously at the *very end* of second gear before it shifts to third, so you're not going to get as much of a speed boost if you've been driving down the highway for 20 seconds and you're already doing like 120, or if you're shifting into fifth gear.
Watch the bit between 1:24 and 1:55-ish a bunch of times to make sure you're getting the timing right, and pay attention to the controller overlay that shows exactly how he does it.
Note: his written instructions say "hold handbrake" to convey that the gas comes in *before* the handbrake is released (to emulate the starting line boost you'd get in first gear,) even though when done at speed, it's really more of a brief tap of the handbrake.
_Also, check the section from around __4:30__ onward, as he addresses failed double clutches or "mid drive speed boosts" (what a mouthful,) and how some cars require the handbrake as well as the proper brakes, and other caveats that can apply._
