Aye fr. Thank you Sir. I've been trying to have someone explain to me how to do the Mid-Drive Boost ("Double Clutching") since it was brought up in the world of GTA V Online. All of my friends either ignored me, gave me false info. or laughed while doing it. I was trying to teach myself but always failed & other videos I've checked out don't do a good job explaining it or showing it like you did. If you come across any other driving tips, I would love it if you uploaded them to RUclips. You've also helped me find another way of getting a perfect wheelie out. Whereas I had my own method, yours is just easier to do.
Using the term mid drive and explaining it not drifting around really helped me understand the infamous “double clutch”. Too bad I stopped playing gta 3 years ago
Double Clutching, though a good way to downshift, comes from a type of trans called a double clutch transmission, where you press the clutch in once to take a trans out of gear, then to put it into gear, you have to let off the clutch and depress it again, using the clutch twice.
Dont you dare call it that long ass name its called double clutch 1: you skip a couple of gears therefore double clutch 2: you do it in your 2nd or 1st gear giving its name 3: how dare you
In the drifting community we also "stance" the vehicle. This lessens the traction. Double clutch is used more to connect drifts and keep a good line going. In fact I have heard the term "clutch kick" thrown a lot more than double clutch.
Clutch kick def makes sense for drifting, besides it being after the turn lol. im aware of the stancing too, not sure how much deeper i will get in these videos though
It's reference is referring to how since it is automatic transmission. You take a car down a gear when you hit the break then instantly trigger max rpm while in that gear. So you not only get a significant boost due to dropping down a gear. You then transfer the excess RPM into the next gear switch and makes you in turn jump the following gears faster. Hence the name double clutch. Just because you don't have a button to lower the gears. Does not mean they aren't lowering when you slow down and adjust rpms. This is a misconception of GTA automatic transmission mechanics. It's adjustment of gears is still regulated by the player based on their own skills and understanding of a vehicle. There is a downshift in play. This a double clutch. Go first person. Watch it take place. However. Double clutch is only done is super cars. Sports have the easiest witch is E break boost. Super cars that don't do that. Can only be done in 1st and 2nd gears. You also have to trigger it with reverse then e break with perfect timing. You can learn the difference by attempting it in other cars. The pariah is easiest E boost. X80 is hardest double clutch cause goes through the first gear to fast. So you can only do it in 2nd 3rd gears. If you're perfect. 😃
You can get the boost in all the gears, you have to flick the left joystick to the left or right the same time you boost. You will switch lanes so flick opposite the closest curb or “what have you”
There is was a mechanic early in the 360 version. Where if you crunched vehicles with the tank you could make people bounce like the swing set glitch. One time, the small lexus suv became 3 wheeled and that allowed it continuous initial boosting making it really fast really quick :D
I like the name e-boost the best. Short, sweet and easy to remember. Mid-drive sounds like a weird way of saying mid engine or something equally confusing.
Wiggle boosting works because the game has a friction co-efficient between the wheels and the ground and a weird power distribution model. When wiggling you are allowing a wheel to temporarily speed up slightly and then catch the ground and apply its extra speed to the ground.
【3:42】 Is the speed in the rough graph measured in *km/h (kilometers an hour)* or *MPH (miles an hour)?* Reason being is that looking at the very end of the chart, the speed maxes out at either *225 km/h (140.62 MPH),* or *360 km/h (225 MPH).*
i appreciated that admission at 8 minutes, of not MDSP not being the Baron's strongest ability -- a lot of people had it explained to them incorrectly back in the day, including myself, and we're still doinitwrong :B
I din't know about these mechanics until I saw a Blade Angel video about games misconception early this year. And I have like 1000 hours in GTA in PS3+PC.
I use this in normal driving and drifting, especially in my Armored Kuruma. It's possible to do it in front wheel drive cars like the Blista Compact and all wheel drive cars like the Kuruma and Sultan but it's trickier and you have to be spot on. It's most noticeable in all wheel drive cars like the Armored Kuruma and Sultan.
Yeah ive been MDS boosting since it's discovery. I've been almost never losing races for a minute but my old racing crew fell of so more often than not my comp is weak. I love it when a race is hard won and clean. It's awesome
I’m part off the ps4 stunt racing community and they all call it double clutching and I’ve spent so much time and energy saying that double clutching is when your in first and want to change into second so you put the clutch in and go into neutral then realise the clutch then put the clutch back then put it in second and release the clutch. Double clutching originated from older vehicles and trucks and busses because their synchros don’t work as well or they don’t have them. (I might be wrong on that). So double clutching is effectively really really slow.
I started learning all these weird mechanics just to mess with my friends, i can hit brake boosts maybe 50% of the time now thanks to you and i can't wait to instant stop one of friends who always rams me.
the reason why it works is that when your going into third you do the handbrake but it fully skips third gear and goes into fourth and it gives you a boost. that’s why you can spin out and it revs at a very high RPM.
It's best with a fast car that's been upgraded all the way. It should be one with high acceleration- it's not gonna work well with the semi or anything crazy lol. Also, if you hold the accelerator the whole time when you tap the handbrake, I think you might get the same engine revving without the speed boost, so that makes me think your button combo has to be both well-timed and accurate, plus it works best and most obviously at the *very end* of second gear before it shifts to third, so you're not going to get as much of a speed boost if you've been driving down the highway for 20 seconds and you're already doing like 120, or if you're shifting into fifth gear. Watch the bit between 1:24 and 1:55-ish a bunch of times to make sure you're getting the timing right, and pay attention to the controller overlay that shows exactly how he does it. Note: his written instructions say "hold handbrake" to convey that the gas comes in *before* the handbrake is released (to emulate the starting line boost you'd get in first gear,) even though when done at speed, it's really more of a brief tap of the handbrake. _Also, check the section from around __4:30__ onward, as he addresses failed double clutches or "mid drive speed boosts" (what a mouthful,) and how some cars require the handbrake as well as the proper brakes, and other caveats that can apply._
when using the actual brake with hand brake method, u dont need to let off gas, let off a little but u dont have to fully let off. i do this consistently

Disclaimer: I made the manual transmission script for SP, so I did some research on why some things happen.
"Sorry keyboard users" seems to be the theme of this game smh
having just played SA, why. why do you torture yourself with keyboard. WHY
I'm better on a *controller,* such as *Xbox* or *PlayStation.*
If I were playing the game on *PC,* I'd use a *wired Xbox One* or *PlayStation4* controller to basic controls -- such as *moving around,* *driving,* *shooting,* etc. -- ...and only use the *keyboard* for miscellaneous menus and vehicle extras.
Thanks for pausing the side by side comparisons. My brain kept trying to analyze which car was further based on distance from camera lol
yeah! the camera thing is a reason most people fail the middrive but think they got it right.

@@FriendlyBaron oof you should have break boosted here
Double Clutch or Clutch Kicking are the terms used by gta drifters. They also use this speed boost tehnique.
yes i included that in the video
True
Granny Shifting not double clutching like you’re supposed to
this
I’m glad you don’t call it double clutching. As a car guy who actually knows my stuff, it pisses me off when people call it double clutching
that was the goal
*It work on electric vehicle too*
You can clearly see she goes more faster and the sound go speed up !
idk if this is supposed to be a meme but electric does not work, no
Man your becoming my favorite youtuber! You put so much effort in your videos and you always reply to comments, you seem very friendly and i really enjoy your videos, keep it up buddy! :)
i am legally obligated to live up to the adjective in my name
FriendlyBaron Your different from everyone else. I like it
Please dont call this double clutching
Whu tho
@@Hube02 because double clutching in real life is very different from this and it doesnt describe it well.
doesnt really matter what its called
@@FriendlyBaron i guess. I just think it could have a better name
Whereas I had my own method, yours is just easier to do.
glad to have helped!
Imagine going to your friend telling “ bro I learned how to do mid drive speed boost “ like it’s such a long name
MDSB
hey friend i learned out to press the brake to go faster
sounds just as silly
@@FriendlyBaron 😂😂
FriendlyBaron just say double clutch
FriendlyBaron or DB
Using the term mid drive and explaining it not drifting around really helped me understand the infamous “double clutch”. Too bad I stopped playing gta 3 years ago
i still play it :)
Oh no if people called me a hacker when I did brakeboosts I'll lose my online privileges tomorrow XD
ahaha the classic "so good must be hacking"
Double Clutching, though a good way to downshift, comes from a type of trans called a double clutch transmission, where you press the clutch in once to take a trans out of gear, then to put it into gear, you have to let off the clutch and depress it again, using the clutch twice.
what it really is, is turning this comment section into a mess
Dont you dare call it that long ass name its called double clutch
1: you skip a couple of gears therefore double clutch
2: you do it in your 2nd or 1st gear giving its name
3: how dare you
ruclips.net/video/tescWzTlGQ0/видео.html
ummmm 4.) you stick the handbrake on???? yeah don’t think so
bad comment dude, come on, get over it lol
Ill be honest the ending rant about stupid people is what got me to Sub
A video that's in depth and easy to understand finally.
that was the goal!
Huh I’ll have to try this in some races, thx Baron for another awesome and informative vid :))
good luck!
Great video! Keep these up, i didnt know any of this!
thanks! planning on it
In the drifting community we also "stance" the vehicle.
I've play this game since it first came out and never knew about this until now... and I LOVE this game. WTF. subbed.
glad to enlighten
You can double clutch upshifting
It's used mainly downshifting but in semi trucks it's used for both. Although most drivers float
Oh good point i forgot about trucks :) to be honest i've never driven a semi truck before, so...
Yeah that still exists, kind of. suspension damage.
I like the name e-boost the best. Short, sweet and easy to remember. Mid-drive sounds like a weird way of saying mid engine or something equally confusing.
fair enough on that
Wiggle boosting works because the game has a friction co-efficient between the wheels and the ground and a weird power distribution model. When wiggling you are allowing a wheel to temporarily speed up slightly and then catch the ground and apply its extra speed to the ground.
Do you have anything to back that up? I'm pretty sure its the curb boosting not the wheel thing.
@@FriendlyBaron what curb?
【3:42】 Is the speed in the rough graph measured in *km/h (kilometers an hour)* or *MPH (miles an hour)?*
Reason being is that looking at the very end of the chart, the speed maxes out at either *225 km/h (140.62 MPH),* or *360 km/h (225 MPH).*
Baron you have helped me on tough nights where in home alone and kindve scared.
Worn you like jazz?
@@RVL-ow7vq yes
keep it together bud you got this
Learned about mid-drive speed boost from Gta-Wiseguy first
About 1/2 the videos I found on the internet were good. Another half were... terrible. I hope to tip the scales to good haha
i never understood why this works but i discovered it on my own once and it blew my mind
and now you know :)
that instant stop brake check was majestic...
so many people think im trolling them with it lol its real i swear
You can probably wiggle boost in the journey since the suspension is so soft you can roll it over just by turning left than right too quickly.
see that vehicle might be kinda too slow for it to work, the slowdown from the turn overpowers the engine.
Im so glad u are revieling these "secrets" ^^
I hate how the old racing community used to try and be secretive about all this stuff. im trying to be the opposite
@@FriendlyBaron Yh GTA Online racing got boring cause nobody was being fair
i appreciated that admission at 8 minutes, of not MDSP not being the Baron's strongest ability -- a lot of people had it explained to them incorrectly back in the day, including myself, and we're still doinitwrong :B
just tellin ya like it is
Woahhh I’m going to learn this when I have the time
Just be sure to not use in F1 max
good luck. idk what the other comment means.

I thought you were competing for wr in gta singleplayer speedrun
Didn't know you had it already, good stuff. :)
i got it about 3 weeks ago :)
@@FriendlyBaron good stuff! Killer efforts, you're doing grand
I din't know about these mechanics until I saw a Blade Angel video about games misconception early this year. And I have like 1000 hours in GTA in PS3+PC.
yeah the community loves to spout off "THIS THING IS THIS!" and are often wrong. its lame
I don't play gtav but i still watch ur videos!
hey thanks
I use this in normal driving and drifting, especially in my Armored Kuruma. It's possible to do it in front wheel drive cars like the Blista Compact and all wheel drive cars like the Kuruma and Sultan but it's trickier and you have to be spot on. It's most noticeable in all wheel drive cars like the Armored Kuruma and Sultan.
got a video of it in Blista?
Yeah ive been MDS boosting since it's discovery. I've been almost never losing races for a minute but my old racing crew fell of so more often than not my comp is weak. I love it when a race is hard won and clean. It's awesome
competitive racing is what kept me in this game
I’m part off the ps4 stunt racing community and they all call it double clutching and I’ve spent so much time and energy saying that double clutching is when your in first and want to change into second so you put the clutch in and go into neutral then realise the clutch then put the clutch back then put it in second and release the clutch. Double clutching originated from older vehicles and trucks and busses because their synchros don’t work as well or they don’t have them. (I might be wrong on that). So double clutching is effectively really really slow.
Yeah thats the jist of it
remember having to explain to people i wasnt using mods and beating them in drag racing back on my xbox 360 and ps3 days.
don't worry, it still happens
@@FriendlyBaron yup it really does 😢
I started learning all these weird mechanics just to mess with my friends, i can hit brake boosts maybe 50% of the time now thanks to you and i can't wait to instant stop one of friends who always rams me.
ahaha good luck o nyour mission
Thanks Baron! Using Alt+F4 I was able to completely stop everything!
oh that explains why all the clocks froze
You were more friendly than I expected.
:)
the reason why it works is that when your going into third you do the handbrake but it fully skips third gear and goes into fourth and it gives you a boost. that’s why you can spin out and it revs at a very high RPM.
Actually thats not true, if you use a mod to show your gear, it actually goes down to first gear for a moment, hence the "launch boost".
This strategic was perfect for speedrunners
Thanks for it
enjoy
Baron really made this whole video to get people to start calling them mid-drives
i wouldnt mind that happening :)
Best youtuber for GTA info
thanks!
I've found the Carbonizarre to be a pretty crazy car to Mid Drive with. It gets a huge boost and gets really loose.
carbo has a decent middrive yeap
props to you for not saying its the best, just whichever you prefer the most.
double cluching is were you go from a gear put the clutch in then put it in neutiral and un clutch cluch again and then put it into the next gear
Wow, you need to work on your english grammar, spelling and structure...
just wikipedia it lol
I tried to get it so many times, but all I got was car revving up with no actual speed boost or tire marks
Not all cars do the tire spin like the gto
@@menma6240 I tried banshee, I tried the comet and a couple of other fast rwd cars and none of them worked for me
Depends on the car, and your timing and length of holding the buttons
when using the actual brake with hand brake method, u dont need to let off gas, let off a little but u dont have to fully let off. i do this consistently
Fair point, theres a couple different variants. you can also just hold the handbrake a bit longer in some cars. makes it a bit slower but also easier.
