  • www.premierguitar.com PG's Joe Coffey is On Location in Petaluma, CA, where he tours the Mesa Boogie factory. In part 2 of the tour, we check out how Mesa Boogie constructs their circuit boards. We see how the intricate process works, including the use of large machines, both automated and manned, and the "Terminator Machine," which applies molten solder to the circuit board to ensure the components security on both sides of the board.

I used to program axial inserters like they show starting roughly at the 1m mark. Mesa's is a different brand than what I programmed. Even in 2001 when I worked with them these machines were way HUGE dinosaurs. Here's Mesa in 2009. To give you a sense of how old this was even in 2001, the company that made the machines I worked with was called Amistar. The microcontroller that ran that whole thing was a Zilog Z80. That is the same processor used in a Texas Instruments TI-80 calculator which has now been surpassed with simple code and is now a basic app on any phone or computer. Progress. Mesa NEEDS a CAD person. Some of this high tech could be made with SMT. It would save money and space inside the chassis. Plus SMT placement machines are at least twice as fast as axial.

you cant expect them to be able to hand assemble all 8 trillion amps they make (that was a guess there)

I'd like to see more Americans regardless of race and less CNCs making these products because CNCs don't buy product.

yea but this is hardly the place to preach human rights, i get what you mean dude and i respect your point, but you cant just assume somewhere is abusing the human rights just to decide what amp your gonna use :P i am an open minded person, i dont assume everyone is a racist just the ones who bring it into an unrelated subject, such as this video, i withdraw anything i may/have said to call you a racist, all im saying is you cant base a judgment like this on this video, and i do accept reality

you seem very determined to find fault in a successful business, and if you wanna toke then come chill with some, but leave the ignorance and hate at the door :)

My first and only Mess O' Poopie - Express 5:50 combo - started smoking (literally) during my very first jam session with a friend. Rather demoralising. I have read in a prominent British guitar magazine a quote about Mesa's "no-compromise build quality". These PCB amps are by no means "no compromise". They are mass-produced shit.
