I was wounded in Vietnam 47 years ago and lost both my legs. I can assure you that the PTSD will fade away as you age. It did for me and back in my time they still weren't sure what PTSD was or how to treat it. I was never treated for it and had some rough times wat back when. Ended up in jail a couple of times for disorderly conduct. I was told I would never be able to have children too. I married one of the nurses that took care of me and we have been together 41 years. Have two children a son and daughter. Our son is a veteran of your war and an ER doctor today and his sister is a high school teacher. Get rid of all the pills and live for your family and in due time ( a long time ) the PTSD will no longer haunt you if you just get involved with you wife and kids. God bless

thanks for the advice. I'm going thru the same thing here. I served 99 -2008. 82nd (ABN) 1st 504 (mech) and it's been a struggle since I got out. two ex's two kids I don't see, family that don't want to talk to me or even ask if I'm good in any way. yeah I think the PTSD will go away but it's a day by day STRUGGLE and the STRUGGLE is REAL. I have to kinda joke with myself every morning saying am I suicidal or homicidal... anyway to all my fellow VETS OUT THERE, STAY SAFE, KEEP YOUR FAITH, DONT LET THEM DRAG YOU DOWN! AIRBORNE!

Not one of my friends that went to Iraq came back. Either they came back in a box, or their body came back without them in it anymore. The soul that left did not come back with their body.
One even took his own life to in order to keep his family safe. He felt he was a mortal threat to his wife and daughter. As a father his most important life mission was to keep his family safe. If anyone / thing were to be a danger to his family he would have to neutralize that threat. Its just so happens that HE felt that HE was the threat, so he took care of it in the fashion he had been trained to.
    R.I.P.
Next time politicians are telling you that we need to 'protect our freedoms' by INVADING another country thousands of miles away, remember they are lying to you so you will make them very very very rich. They refuse to go to war themselves but dont bat an eye sending you and / or your kids to die.

I suffer from PTSD although it is only a fraction of what this fighter has. As a father of a six month old baby boy, let me tell all of you that holding my child in my arms and watching him look up at me and my beautiful wife with a smile is at least 50% of the therapy for my problem. It gets better Staff Sgt. It eventually gets better.

As an Afghan let me thank you guys for your bravery in liberating our country from terrorists. thanks to u, millions of girls can attend school and many other achievements are over there.
There are far more positive points of this war than the negative ones. our own afghan war veterans rarely complain from trauma. They are just proud of what they did, brother. They think about the achievements and killing those rats. Don't ever bother yourselves. That was War and war takes causalities.
I wish you are better by now reading my comment and wish you a happy life with ur beautiful baby.

Good story. I was taken out in '04, I lost my marriage, home, career. My PTSD and physical injuries are so extensive I filled for disability in '06 (I tried to work but couldn't). I received disability within 1 month after I filled. So that was n is a blessing. Group therapy and one on one help to cope with the symptoms that go along w/ PTSD along w/ some of the meds. I don't take as many as I used too, and I haven't attempted suicide in over two yrs. so there is improvement, very slow over ten yrs. Now I have goals and dreams for a better life.

Andrew Garrett That's awesome Andrew. I went downhill 2 years after my time in the desert. The results to my life, friends and family were catastrophic. I never imagined I could bounce back, but over time and lots of work its happening. Someone tried to convince me about 6 years ago that good things were in store, but it was impossible to believe it. After years of tiny choices every day (mainly the choice to try again after losing a job or screwing up a relationship) it's slowly coming together. I think having goals and dreams for a better life, like you said, is the first and most important part. Good luck bro. Thanks for posting. It's good to see other dudes are out there.

    PTSD is a mysterious thing.
Poem titled, “My place has changed."
    My place has changed,
    From the things once seen.
To where I do not know.
Only I can say ‘I can return.’
Only I can find that way
    To my source in life,
With the time I have left
    I must overcome.
It’s I who must come back.

The ravage of war isn't physical only, it's in the minds of men who fought for their country and families. How can we reveal the madness of war better than by watching this video, this testimony of a man who suffers from trauma that holds him imprisoned? It's heartbreaking to witness this man's condition at the start. I hope he finds a way out of the war that rages inside of him. Fortunately, a new life emerged and now he's a father again. Congratulations! Thank you so much, for showing your dedication and sharing your condition. I think it's important that we don't close our eyes to this devastating result of modern day warfare.

Been longer than Nam. WW1 and 2(European theatre not the pacific) was deeply unpopular with the public. Ever since we enstated the Federal Reserve America has been getting pulled into wars that no one but the elite want that do not benefit anyone but a small number of globalist oligarchs and a small foreign country on the other side of the planet.

"War seems like a fine adventure, the greatest most of them will ever know.
Then they get a taste of battle.
For some, that one taste is enough to break them.
Others go on for years, until they lose count of all the battles they have fought in, but even a man who has survived a hundred fights can break in his hundred-and-first.
Brothers watch their brothers die, fathers lose their sons, friends see their friends trying to hold their entrails in after they’ve been gutted by an axe.
They see the lord who led them there cut down, and some other lord shouts that they are his now.
They take the wound, and when that’s still half-healed they take another.
There is never enough to eat, their shoes fall to pieces from marching, their clothes are torn and rotting, and half of them are shitting in their breeches from drinking bad water.
If they want new boots or a warmer cloak or maybe a rusted iron half helm, they need to take them from a corpse, and before long they are stealing from the living too, from the small folk whose land they’re fighting in, men very like the men they used to be.
They slaughter their sheep and steal their chickens, and from there it’s just a short step to carrying off their daughters too.
And one day they look around and realize all their friends and kin are gone, that they are fighting beside strangers beneath a banner that they hardly recognize.
They don’t know where they are or how to get back home and the lord they’re fighting for does not know their names, yet here he comes, shouting for them to form up, to make a line with their spears and scythes and sharpened hoes, to stand their ground.
And the knights come down on them, faceless men clad in all steel, and the iron thunder of their charge seems to fill the world.
    And the man breaks."
    ― George R. R. Martin, A Feast for Crows

My time as RGN . It's about detecting things early. So somewhat experience. Emotion are more than feelings. Feelings more than things. Be happy luck as mine 😁😁

We have a fly of fight response activated when we are in danger. Your nervous system has two branches, the sympathetic and parasympathetic. The parasympathetic is the freeze response which is responsible for playing dead. You can get out of trauma by telling yourself that the world and people are safe. It’s just energy trapped in your system. The key is to release the energy TRE exercises are great for that🙏🏻💫🤗thank you for your service

That pile of pills in the first minute breaks my heart. The VA is poisoning us with that garbage. Veterans pick up the plant and put down the pills.

If a short war effort leaves a post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental disorders to a soldier, how do the Iraqis and the Afghans feel?

Think about this for a while, BeastlyGamer Dude, before you decide to serve your country. There's a deep instinctual drive in men to want to run to the battlefield in order to protect wife and children, the whole tribe even. That was how life happened in the past. Now, we live in modernised warfare, with nukes, planes with bombs, weaponized drones, super soldiers and war-zones with landmines.
The wife and kids can't be saved by running off to battle, nowadays, see what I mean? The combat of the old days was very different from the present one, where too many lives, soldiers and civilians, are destroyed in order to balance the books of those in the global casino, playing power-games.
Scenarios are deliberately designed, describing, or rather.... orchestrating.... the present hostility between the US and Russia, creating animosity in those of us who swallow blindly what's presented on our screen or radio broadcast. Divide and conquer is a game well played to this day. Victory is for the saviour who is the designer of this game. It can only be stopped when we stop buying into it.
An example of such a scenario is when the true nature of the EU was revealed in the Greek drama of autumn 2015. Greece's resources are ripped off, after plunging Greece deliberately in huge debts and accuse it of corruption and incompetence in the eyes of all who were seated in the arena, smirking in glee. So that EU headquarters could present itself as the good guy, doing the right thing. In truth it's a scenario for the benefit of puppet-masters in the banking/corporation-world who are making efforts to turn us into cattle on Animal Farm, described by George Orwell. "Four legs... good, two legs... bad"
Warfare is present on a personal level as well. Those individuals, who hack at the roots of evil, in an attempt to expose its designer, are silenced to death in obscure ways. Humanity is on death row once each of us is chipped.
We, you and I need to invest our high levels of adrenaline in projects aiming for the liberation of each human being. The best antidote for warfare.
