Having a great time playing through Yakuza 3 and I am an "American" that has no problem with subtitles. Most of my blu-ray's and dvd's are foreign films with subtitles. For example, I just got "Ultra Galaxy: Mega Monster Battle The Movie", the Japanese region A blu-ray version via Fedex overnight (yes it has subtitles). Gonna have a blast with it this weekend.
@ARX78 Heheh...I started to love Japan"Tokyo" because of this rich story of this Game...Also I've learnt few japanese words during the subtitle of the cutscenes. I hope the next yakuza contain more chapters and more excited things to do.

just bought this game last week new for 20 bucks gamestop. at chapter 4 right now. got to say. i love it so far. really fun. the story is great. even though we need to read subtitles i dont mind it. if u read slow then you got a problem i guess. i love kung fu and samurai flicks. so this is cool. makes it feel more authentic in a way with the japanese voices. very cool characters also. my first yakuza game by the way. wish they will remaster the first 2 parts for ps3.
Great game, just finished it. I'm thankful for the subtitles, that's one of my favorite parts of the game. Hope SEGA does the same with Yakuza 4.
this is game was originally made in 2008; that's why the graphics look like they do. Yakuza 4 was just released in Japan.

YAKUZA 5 was announced recently for PlayStation 3. However, the game will be different than how you know and love the series now. Also, SEGA will use a new engine, so there is a chance of it being released on Xbox 360, as well. Also, SEGA has created YAKUZA Studio, so maybe the localization of the games will come sooner for us, now.
Just finished this today. Before this one the only other Yakuza game I've played so far is the 1st one. So, I loved the variety of random stuff to do and it did have that Shenmue vibe for me. On the other hand the controls and story were night and day to each other. I would rate this a very good and it will probably end up being one of my favorite series. My complaint though is the random battles were way too easy. Even the bosses were pretty easy except maybe a couple of them. The random battles toward the 2nd half eventually felt repetitive. They were fun but could have been way more fun with a little more challenge. Since I got this and part 4 together, I'm really looking forward to playing the 4th one. Are the battles in that one also easy? Should I play that one with a higher difficulty? Anyway , this game is one of my favorites on the system now.

@neil Ryan Banot you don't have to play the first game you can start with yakuza 2 when you start it you can recap on all the events in the first game that lead up to yakuza 2 so you won't miss much

it's a shame Yakuza 4 only ever takes place in Kamarucho unlike 2 & 3 which seem to take place in 2 cities but the fact 4 has 4 main characters makes up for it, personally can't wait for 5 that game looks like it might be the best in the series
The 11 thumbs down all came from XBots who all suffer from ADD and have 10 minute attention spans. I read ALL the text and I absolutely LOVED the story and fighting in this game! 5***** Game! Cant wait for Yakuza 4!
@Fonderplague I don't mind reading the subtitles. I usually have them on anyways even for English games.

Nothing beats Yakuza's gripping story.
Sleeping dogs is still very good, will it match Yakuza 5? doubt it, watch the trailer if you haven't already.

New to yakuza , want to try this franchise . Should I start with first one , or which? ideas?
If you have a backwards compatible PS3, or own a ps2. I'd highly recommend playing through the games in order first. While the gameplay was not as great with the earlier games, the stories are great. If you really don't feel like it, or don't have to funds to get the previous ones though. They do a decent job filling you in on all of the previous games, so I wouldn't worry too much about starting here, unless you plan to get the previous games in the future. Since you'll ruin key plot twists if you go through the recaps first.
rub ber I know this answer is late, but this is for anyone. If you dont want to play EVERY game: Then buy Yakuza 3, watch the recap for Yakuza 1. Try to find a good price on Yakuza 2 (it can be $50+ even on amazon), which may a lot, but it has one of the best stories in the series. If the price of Y2 is just too much, then watch the recap video for it as well. Yes, it will ruin the big plot reveals for Y1+2 but it will get you into the next game without additional cost. Now play Yakuza 3. The story isn't as strong as Y2 or Y4, but it's still worth playing to experience the series. Now go to Yakuza 4, another strong point in the series, with lot of stuff to do and explore. Go back to Y1 and Y2 as you get the funds and to fill in the details.
If you're REALLY on a budget: Get Yakuza 4, it has recaps for the first three games (about 65 minutes total) but you will know all the major events. Sadley, the video for Y3 is shruck down to match the size/quality of Y1 and Y2, but if it means you would never try the series otherwise, then buy Yakuza 4. The recaps do skip a lot of the plot, so there's still plenty to do, and you can always go back and play the games you haven't bought yet. Ideally, try to go in order. But I dont blame anyone that doesnt want to play through two PS2 games before they can play the better-looking Yakuza 3.
I kinda prefer reading when it's side missions or something. It's nice that there's both just text and also lots of voice acting in the game, I like it.
@RemyLanslots Thats somewhat a good thing accually. I hope they change the engine in a good way. I dont really care about it not being a ps3 exclusive. I just hope they release it in early 2012

What cracks me up about this game is watching the people walk around. They just walk and turn around and then continue walking the same path over and over again. Hilarious!!!
@tamerdp Big brother so yeah, it doesn't mean boss i noticed lots of errors in the subs for the Japanese but the Chinese subs were very accurate... odd
This reminds me of Shenmue but with waaay better graphics and interactivity (not sure if that's actually a word..). I'm definitely getting this!
This is the only game which still kinda reminds me on Shenmue which was a great game.

oh also the cities are very nice. very lively. feels like a real living city. alot of shops. fun and sometimes funny side missions. lol
@FF4ever000xD if you don't have gta 4 (which I think is what you meant by gat) definitely get it, it's fun and cheap now. i haven't played or bought yakuza 3 or mafia 2 but after watching a mix of reviews i'd probably go with yakuza 3. it looks like it has a hell of a lot more variety than mafia 2 which i've heard is too short and somewhat repetitive.

So Sega made this? I wonder why they can't get on the ball with making Shenmue 3. If they use the engine from this game, they'd not only save time, but improve the feel of Shenmue.
Oh well, maybe it will never happen and that will be sad.

You will die, several times over if you just mash buttons in yakuza 3.
The later bosses and enemies are very tough to take down, and seeing how in Yakuza 1, had easy mode, I hope they don't make it too easy in this one.
Damn they even fucked the subtitles up on the first line.
I for one am ok with subs. At least i dnt hav to listen to horrible voice acting, and two, its not that bad to read it. Its not like theyre making me read in another language. On the bright side when someone makes u read a book this counts.
that's not the fault of voice dialog that's the fault with the writer for having written a line like that. Alright now here is why that statement is a joke with no dialog there is no emotion being conveyed, you could see what is ment to be a heart warming scene but with no actors voicing then the emotions behind the scene won't be conveyed as well. Also wasting production WTF since when has a game ever been delayed for that, really that is like the weakest no dumbest argument I've ever heard

@Fonderplague nice comment XD i find it lame that americans cant read subtitles just because theyre used to watch it in their language and then we others have to play some shitty dubbed version of yakuza 1 (like i had too) and i ended with stopping playing it because i couldnt take those horrible cutscenes that i couldnt skip
yakuza is fucking hard if you just button mash you would get knocked around easily you need to learn how to dash block and counter at the perfect timing to be able to get a few hits ion on the mid-late enemies in the game and the bosses would require you to build up you entire inventory with health drinks and weapons
(i still remember the 2 grueling hours that i fought against majima in yakuza 1 in medium difficulty

One thing and especially this thing: THERE is FEW missions in this Yakuza3 when I played it!! IT's soo fucking unfair! It's the best game of the year, why would they make it's chapters very few? From 20 Chapter to 12 ? what the fuck is this ???? Unbelievable...They suppose to upgrade the chapters and raises the missions and more more things...and I WILL buy the game even if it cast me $100 dollar.
