Agree 100%. I have lived my life based on that philosophy. However, times are changing. Nasty folks nowadays are more daring and do not give a toss about the law. Some of them will not give you the option to avoid confrontation. You have to expect violence when all other options have been exhausted. Hence the need to be prepared.

Thank you Matt!!...This 18" / 5" stick demonstration was a great idea, thank you for doing this! I'm a 69 year old family man and an ex L.E.O. from Wisc...
No matter which is the very best approach to this needful topic, ( ref: to an individual's age, and expierience level), this video goes a long way to get the juices of personal "self awareness", "self protection" and preservation going", - the "what if this happens" in our thinking,.. the "what will work for me?" mindset, and, in this clear video's demonstration of yours, being one of several great options to choose from for doing so, thank you!!...
It's all related to a now needed paradigm shift ( and possible physical change) needed that's inherent in America today,...
a battleground could arise at any given time, any where),...the time to get ourselves, family (or others), out of Dodge or, hide strategically, or (God help us,) stand our ground and fight is now!!... to be willing to live to see another day, Lord willing!!...
,...it's time to go for broke, if ever called upon to act in self defense, it's never a better time then NOW TO DECIDE and prepair ( pre-supply) ahead of time, you're availablability,
It's now time to, FACE FEAR WITH KNOWLEDE, like my old Sheriff's Dept. Sgt. once passed on to me ( upon his retirement )...
Thank you for all you do,, stay safe, Blessings to you and yours!!

Hey ! A nice 18 or 24 inch of washer hose is lighter maybe I didn't weigh each but hose can slide inside your pants to conceal leaving top out enough to grab also make 2 holes on grip for something to wrap around your hand to not get loose while in use .it would be to your advantage to have a little freind too !!! In the UK one cannot just use a walking stick or cane. You need to have a valid medical need for its use. Otherwise you would be just using it as a potential illegal weapon. Police will charge you for such an offense.
If you do use either a walking stick or cane as a weapon, and have a legitimate medical need for its use. You still have to be aware of only using it with reasonable force.

Personally i think its more practical for someone to keep a powerful pepper spray on hand than a club. Someone can more easily get around the club. Not much training required for the spray. A young desperate assailant with a knife has a really good chance against the club.

      @GAFisherman 13 дней назад +2

If you've ever been sprayed or used pepper spray you'll know its limitations. Most law enforcement officers that have deployed their spray, which has higher concentrations of irritants than that sold for civilian use, still have to fight the offender. It is irritating but does not stop an agitated aggressor. It usually makes them more agitated. Basically, if employed against a knife wielding attacker you'll still get cut.

I use to fish for tuna on the Royal Polars and found the wood usually oak dowels about 1 3/4 inch in diameter and 14 inch long would drill a 1 inch hole about 2 inches long and pour molten lead into the wood, usually I would freeze the wood prior to putting the lead in. A trucker taught me this trick which he could tap on the tires to change them out. While it lived in California I carried one in my car.

Great video, I agree today thugs are younger and more brazen with attacks on unsuspecting older folks, it's disgusting and out of control. I'm 73, walk everyday, work out 5 days a week and tho I don't have the strength I had in younger years, it helps significantly with how I feel, both mentally and physically. It's also good to know tricks and simple devices as you demonstrated that can be used in self-defense. One thing I always have when out in public is an awareness of my surroundings and not making myself an easy target, coz that's what young thugs think of us as. It's something that as we get older we need to think more about. It may prevent an assault or even save your life.

But I could never justify carrying a stick like this anywhere I’d need to use it. Not on an aircraft or through security in an airport or on the streets anywhere in NY state. Our kids are in Nassau County and no longer in Manhattan, so that’s good. Here in East Tennessee the VA is helping me to get to a point where I don’t need my cane so much and I can go back to carrying a 1911 on my hip. Except when I know I might be having a beer with dinner. Then I use my cane. Because gunpowder and alcohol NEVER mix well.

The problem is that people are being caught off guard and sucker punched by attackers. There’s no defense against that kind of attack other than becoming a more aware person. Taking on a more aggressive, self secure attitude helps you avoid being seen as an easy target. Just remember that a weapon is useless if you don’t have time to use it.

Thank you, Matt, for the thug defeater stick. I have a small tweak in mind that I believe will greatly enhance its effectiveness.
I plan to add a shallow narrow groove placed away from the ends, equal to the length of the two joints of my thumb. This adjustment will provide maximum exposure for better grip, while making it harder for any villain to grab onto. By feeling the correct position instantly, it will give me an advantage in any situation. Additionally, allowing my palms to sink in and anchor the stick more strongly will further increase its effectiveness.
Thank you again for this thoughtful concept.

The shallow narrow groove in the handle is designed to help prevent perspiring hands or weak gripping strength from slipping to and over the ends. This feature allows your palms to sink in and anchor the stick more securely, providing a stronger grip.

That’s interesting that airline passengers can bring a wooden self defense weapon with them; I have two small black mini kubatons that I can carry with me when I travel in a airplane; and I think that all airline passengers should be carrying a small wooden self defense weapon in case a rude person acts like a jerk inside of a airplane and the other passengers can use their wooden self defense weapon on the rude passenger.

as long as you can do the business effectively with first strike. You need to be effective right away if you are at a mobility disadvantage. And no good if your ability to grip the tool securely has failed. And you need to be alerted to danger before it is too late to grab the tool and react.

I knew a really dodgy guy when I lived in Glasgow. He always got stopped by the police and had lots of enemy's too. He used to carry a jif lemon down the side of his door to spray lemon juice in people's eyes when they "challenged" him. Police can't do anything about it cause it's a jif lemon but instantly blinds any would be assassin's tyring there luck. Fucking genius I thought.

The plus is most amateur assailants don't know how to use a knife and if you have the balls you can probably disarm them. That's why I wear leather jackets when possible. You may get cut but resolve, act and worry about that later.

Prior to getting a club, one better check with their local police on the various rules as to what constitutes a weapon and what doesn't. In most area's control by local police, which is everywhere. A stick with a curved handle aka CANE is legal, however the same size stick without the curved end is a walking stick. One is legal and one is not if and when utilized in a self defense situation.

Well I suppose everyone needs to make a living to offer a wood dowel for $29.50 that I can get at the hardware store for less than $5 (and even far less if I’m the least bit handy) I don’t know what the advantage is. Is it at least branded so a purchaser can be intimidated by my awesome skills?
