When I was 16 my dad owned a bar. I hung out there after school. One day a man, larger than my dad, attacked him. I saw my dad gently strike the guy 3 times on the side of his head and the man suddenly dropped to the floor. Later I asked my dad about it and he showed me the brass knuckles he had in his pocket. He said he hadnt needed to hit the man hard as he didnt want to kill him. For years I carried a steel D ring. Now, as an old guy myself, I carry brass knuckles. They are legal here in Texas now.

I had a rough childhood growing up in and near Chicago. I was jumped a few times and was even stabbed once. I got brass knuckles after seeing someone use them. Having been stabbed, its a pain you can kind of get used to, and being cut unless its with a machete, is not going to end a fight quickly. Having worked in the medical field, I can personally attest to how much the human body can take. And brass knucles are the only thing short of a gun I've seen stop a fight quickly and cause enough damage for that fight to end quickly. I carry mine whenever I don't carry my gun

The more I follow your channel, the more I realize how lucky I was to have the teachers I did when I was young. I started training in the heyday of the board breaking craze, but my first teacher would have none of it. He took the time to teach us how fragile the hands can really be in a fight, despite what we were seeing - and still see - in movies and TV. Filling the void inside the fist with something shock-absorbing can help, but you can still crack a bone if you're still striking with unprotected knuckles. Training to be more versatile and comfortable with hammer fists and back fists is also a good idea, imo. You can throw those at much closer range than most folks think at first. Palm heels can be an option too, but you can really sprain some digits with those, even if you train for those. I'm not sure I like these knucks enough to go to all the trouble of getting a permit, but there are other options. Many items can be explained away as treatments for arthritis, trigger finger, etc. I'm intrigued though, and I'm going to grab a set even if I just train with them. Sorry to ramble on, but it's a great topic.

It's been my belief for some time that the way most people are taught to punch is wrong. Shotokan Karate taught me to use the largest two knuckles. The reason why I think that may be wrong so is that my second knuckle protrudes somewhat which means force is concentrated there, and there is a real risk of breaking a knuckle. Using the largest two knuckles means the force is concentrated there, and there is a risk of breaking bones. Using the first two knuckles means you have to offset the angle of your hand and wrist, and it is not in a straight line with your wrist, and arm. There is also a small risk of possibly breaking your wrist if the angle is off or not braced properly. Which means you can not use all the force you generate with a straight punch. Since then using the three smaller knuckles this has not been an issue for me. I think the way they teach to punch in Wing Chun may be a lot better.

My Job in our 81 yr Family owned business ,Has me most weeks in a Mini Van transporting peoples loved ones who have passed away , elsewhere and need to be brought back home for a Memorial Service, When its really busy I can run between 3000 & 4000 miles a week , which can put me in some really undesirable places at 3am getting gas .
So I had just gotten gas in a small town in Alabama, when this approx. 5'7" 135 lb Junkie , steps between me and my open door with a small wooden handle steak knife in his left hand and a snubnose 38 in his right, why he felt he needed both who knows, hes a Junkie.
When its a bad area like that , My Brass Knucks are always in my right coat pocket, my right back pocket if its Hot out.
He said sorry I gotta take the Van and I need all your money, I said I just put all my money in the tank Buddy but you can have the Van, knowing full well I cant allow that, Because I had just picked up someone , Thats someones mother, sister, grandmother , etc.
When I said you can have the Van I tossed the Keys on the drivers seat, When he glanced at the Keys... Alot Harder Than I intended to, I Absolutely Smoked this Piece of Crap, Unfortunately Caving in the whole right side of his Face, When I saw the Damage, I was instantly terrified, Im not going into detail, but the Cops we're looking for a bat , I told them I hit him with 16 yrs of Golden Glove Boxing.
In about an hour I was on my way, I dont know what happen with the Junkie and I dont care, Fk Him.
But Those Knucks Saved my Life and Most Likely My Families Businesses and the Family and Customer were Very Greatful, and Yes I still Carry them today.

I'm an avid collector, and have some very expensive custom pairs. The reality is, your average $25 duster will perform just as well. The only difference is materials. For weight and durability, I prefer CNC milled steel. But brass or composite copper alloy hits just as hard. The biggest problem with weaker materials is that they can shatter, mash, and fold around your hand. Especially aluminum and carbon fiber. My favorite weight are the 32 ounce monsters. My edc even has a blunt kubaton spike on the bottom. And yes, I've unfortunately been forced to use them. They should always be used with extreme consideration for your attacker's life. They are indeed VERY lethal.

Great video sir. As a martial arts student and instructor I've trained with and carried different tools like brass knuckles, kubotan, etc. I'm also old enough to remember some people carrying blackjacks (saps...a piece of metal wrapped in leather). You were spot on when you said that when you carry brass knuckles and similar tools you have not only be aware that they are legal and the consequences of using them. An open hand palm strike to the face can cause a lot of pain but the same strike done with a kubotan or brass knuckles can cause permanent damage. Keep up the great work....:)

2005 shooting billiards at a local tavern in the North Woods of Wisconsin. Shaker's bet $200 on a game against my partner and I after already loosing $80. I plug the eight ball in winning the game and get a pole cue across the back of me head/neck, just right that I only felt it happen no pain until the next day. It was a strange happenstance as the cue broke in half and I stood up right basically unphased. I had a leather 3/4 trench coat on with weighted/iron gloves (metal inserts in the finger areas) in hand pockets. I pulled them out and put them on like a man ready to do a job in front of the 2 shakers we just beat for another $200 and they both ran for the rear exit. My team mate (small guy nick named red squirrel) got pushed to the floor as they made their exit. Patrons were yelling at me that it wasn't worth it and not to go outside. Red squirrel unfortunately followed 30 seconds after them. He walked out the door and all he remembers is getting hit with a tire iron in the head. I followed after realizing he wasn't in the bar anymore. I opened the rear exit door and the 2 shakers were kicking Red squirrel on the ground, no tire iron in sight. I hulked 5ish steps forward and smashed the one guy in the right rear side of his head as he was kicking Red Squirrel. He dropped immediately unconscious and his buddy ran for their truck. Barkeep/owner swings the door open and yells to break it up and he's got a more lethal device in his hands. I turn as the one guy swings the rear end of his truck into the telephone pole in the parking lot and takes off. Cops get called, ambulance arrives and the cops took me away and attempted to charge me with a couple crimes hoping one would stick. The guy I hit ONE time had a broken mandible, crushed eye socket, brain hemorrhaging, he recovered just fine. Security footage released to the judge after the stupid DA trumped up charges for me and not the attackers showed I was in defense and dismissed the case. The guy who drove off didn't even face DUI since they got ahold of him the next day (even though video showed him having 6 kessler and cokes in a 2 hour ish period of time.
    Lessons:
    Be prepared always
The system is broken, stay out of it at all costs
One bop in the right place and you might loose your life to criminals

The ends are tapered down to about the size of a pencil eraser. One in each hand could inflict a great deal of pain, in just about any direction you strike, more so when used in a sideways motion, letting the protruding part hitting your opponent. Made of a hard plastic I believe. Easy to pocket carry. Thanks for doing what you are doing. Cheers

They're a good surprise tool - don't let them see the knuckles before they feel them. But they will be considered a deadly weapon. If they're seen, you've now got a deadly weapon - which means shooting you is very much legally on the table. So it's probably better to consider a gun and/or knife - because just having such a tool will likely be painted as pre-meditation or "looking for a fight."

Just a heads up, I’ve learned this since the video. You can own them, but they won’t allow you to carry them. I guess they’re saying you can have them in the home. State laws are always being updated anyway so it’s good to keep a check on them. Thank you for watching!

Brass knucks slice people up, I've hit and been hit by brass knucks as a delinquent teen in a self defense situation, areas with minimal flesh covering bone like the face, hairline, head will be split on contact and you can expect to need stitches. It's not very fun, especially if the other person wants to continue to fight while bleeding all over the place. I was concussed when hit back after trying to defend against being jumped by 3 thiefs.

In my experience ive found brass knuckles can be very useful. They are not something you can just pick up and expect automatically win.
They take training and more importantly knowledge of where to hit.
A important thing we used to say knives seek flesh- impact weapons seek bone.
The problem with brass knuckle is they can disfigure someone ive seen it happen.
I won't say who but someone i know hit a guy under the eye broken the cheek bone. It was very ugly injury. Yes fist can do that as well but not as easily.
I really like the povoke knife design. I have a clone( but a very well made one) anyway it gives you a ring for impact but also a pressure point surface for getting your point across. An a blade thats next to impossible to disarm if things go south.
My background is in kali and small circle jujitsu. So we do a good bit of practice with all weapons. An small circle does loads of pain compliance.
Nothing is more important then training and drilling different things. Secondly the more people you can get helps you realize nobody acts the same. You need to be able to flow at all times.
    Sorry for the lengthy post.

Me and some classmates got into big trouble for making those out of pressed steel in our High School shop class. These were designed as Class rings that locked together when you closed your fist. They turned out to very effective. But the school Principal really frowned on them.
@5:10 - A Deputy Sheriff in Gaffney SC wanted to arrest me for carrying Brass Knuckles. But he couldn't because mine was actually a Belt Buckle known as "The Buckle Knuckle" I'd bought at a Flea Market. Since I was "wearing" not "carrying" his partner said it might not stand up in Court.

As a senior who regularly gets out in situations where help is not immediate I have wanted something to carry that would dissuade any characters thinking I'm an easy target. I could not find a source for dusters till I found this video. OK, now I know where to purchase them. Great video. I like your low-key delivery of the content.

Back in the 80s i got into a fight with a big ol marine . I was at 5'8 170 a bit out sized but i dropped his ass and broke some teeth. This happend in a bar in a mall in fla. and we both went to jail and since we were both military they handled it ,i would have been in a lot more trouble had there not been witnesses to prove he started it and i just defened myself, i did pay for some teeth and got confined to base for some length of time

It's a good video! For a long time I used brass knuckles! I used aluminum, brass, and polymer. I made a foam lining for all of them to protect my hand during impact! I have carried Kubotans for several years now. Wood, metal and polymer. The problem with aggressors is that they are NEVER concerned with the rigors of the law and when they want to attack, they come at us with everything they have! If one day I am FORCED to use some of these instruments, I will worry about the law later after I survive, because if I needed to use them, it is because the law was not there to protect me!
I'd rather be judged by seven than carried by six! 🤨

Very good history lesson on brass knucks. I own quite a few of these but I always thought they might have originated from the 1918 WW1 trench knife but wasn't sure. I love knuckle duster knives too but like you said I believe they are better for collecting or SHTF because using them would probably land you in legal hot water

    Good episode! ~
I have gotten out of quite a few fights just by putting them on. I have heard the comments as they backed off.
They basically believe that if you are wearing them then you LIKE to fight and to fight while wearing them!
    So they are a deterrent.
They are a great gift for any combat soldier.
I have quite the collection from HUGH BRASS beasts to aluminum and Polymer which is great for going through metal detectors.
If you keep a pair in a ROADSIDE emergency kit that has a blade for cutting through a safety belt and a GOOD first aid kit.
EVEN the cops understand that you may need it in order to break a windshield to save a life. So if it's IN THE KIT. You are good to go.

I got jumped when I was in my teens and one of the girls had a pair of brass knuckles and it was 3 girls on me on black top. I can certainly say them brass knuckles nearly broke every bone on my face pushed my nose under my left eye my right eye was swollen shut. When I got to the hospital they were talkin about doing plastic surgery on my face. They thought I went through a car windshield. It was such an unfair fight. Even had guys standing around me in a circle as the girls attacked me & they started stomping me out too with their boots. My face today my nose is F’d from the brass knuckles and that was almost 35 yrs ago.

These things are dangerous , If you hit someone with them , Make sure not to kill them or disfigure them if you only want them to bug off or just stop them from an attack . you only need one good tap and the other guy is going to stop His actions .

In Canada, I made my own steel knuckles, from feeling combative and insecure.. But once I had them it felt like I was looking for an excuse to use them, hence attracting violence, which is not a good way to live. Admittedly I am not in an environment that warrants such protection...
