    You have a good line of site for television reseption .
    I'm 40 miles from Chicago and the transmitters are on the Sears tower and John Hancock center buildings .
    I can't get Rockford IL which in in the opposite direction from Chicago.
    I don't have a rotor antenna like your showing .

    I had one of those supersonic 360 models just like that one, paid 20 bux for it new. it works, but my cm4221 works better. Are you able to pick up Atlanta at all from over there? I can pick up all of Atlanta's channels with maximum signal level from 35 miles north, and also 40-50% on channels 3 and 9 in Chattanooga (Signal Mountain, Tn) which is 85 miles direct with my modded cm4221 (slight VHF mod).

    I was thinking on building my own like this, but the problem is the TV broadcast antenna is behind me, through a few apartments and building, so, so far no antenna I have bought can get through all those things, and no I can not put it on the roof or outside, my apartment manager will not let me. So I am running into all kinds of problems

    I bought this antenna from Micro Center in 2014 and just replaced it with the very same one today. Last week, I bought (and returned) a $100.00 and $150.00 antenna and neither one worked well. This antenna is the best $20.00 spent (both times). It turns and picks up a plethora of channels here in Metro Detroit. I ended up dropping DISH t.v. and opting for this alone.

    This is how the ROTATOR gets power: The coaxial wire is used for 2 purposes. It sends the DC volts up to the rotator motor AND to the Amplifier at the antenna. Then the antenna sends the signal back down THE SAME WIRE to the tv. This is what I call "Ghost Power". The same ONE WIRE is used for both purposes. (This note is for the several people who asked about how the rotator gets it's power). That is why the little power box MUST be attached and plugged into power. So all the power and signals go where they are supposed to go.

    So, after a handful of other antennas immediately prior, I've successfully put up an antenna extremely similar to this style. It works extremely well, picking up about 34 channels, twelve more than any site seemed to guesstimate based on my location which is super mountainous. I am still missing two major channels though, NBC and CBS. NBC I picked up with one of those previous antennas so I know it's possible, and CBS I haven't picked up at all (the closest is frustratingly impossible to reach due to interfering topography). However, luckily the NBC that I know is possible is in the same broadcasting city as another CBS so I'm positive I can get them both in one whack. But my directional is in the polar opposite direction. Interesting to note that all of my channels are UHF that I pick up now and the two I want that are in the opposite direction are VHF, could explain why NBC previously picked up with another antenna though its a further distance away than almost every channel now. And even though it rotates and I can make it go in the opposite direction, it does no good because even amplified it absolutely will not pick those two channels up (CkearStream 2Max was the one that grabbed NBC). So, it's a dilemma! Its already designed to pick up both VHF and UHF so I don't expect I can modify it to pick up VHF could I? It already has an amplifier that came with it too so that doesn't seem an option. I am willing to buy a second antenna, but it obviously can't be this one for specifically obtaining those two channels and though I know you can use a combiner, I wouldn't know how using two antennas with amplifiers that have to be hooked up to operate at all would fare. My best guess is to maybe find a strictly VHF only antenna and place it in the other direction and use a combiner. I almost hate to buy what essentially looks like a sparse oven rack though. Any advice?

    When I was a kid in the early 60s we built antennas like that cat whisker 4 bay one on a 1 by piece a wood to get UHF. We had a VHF TV with a UHF converter back then. We had two of these type antennas on an old ladder bolted to the house. One faced east west and the other north south to get everything in our area. There was equal lengths of ladder line 300 ohm tv wire going to each antenna. At the junction was the TV 300 ohm ladder line or open wire TV cable going into the house to the TV UHF converter box. Where it converted to VHF channel 3 to feed the old round screen Zenith TV set. Grandma loved L. Welk show and the music on there. And Grandpa would watch it with her. Grandpa later changed the antennas and put some chicken wire o the back side of a new set him and I built together. BTW my Grandpas first UHF TV antenna was a blown out 500 watt light bulb hooked to the 300 ohm wire and put in the attic to get channel 20 in Springfield Illinois. Thanks for the antenna design it made me remember many good times with my Grandpa. 73s Jimmy, WX9DX

    The front of the Antenna has a few folded directors for the UHF Band ,I can´t see well if there is a UHF folded dipole.... behind them there is a larger single folded dipole for the VHF Hi Band (Channels 7 to 13) at the back there is a mesh working as a Reflector for the UHF Band. it is clear that the VHF Hi Band folded dipole is too long for the UHF Band but it may be working as a 3/2 wavelength harmonic dipole in order to get both (VHF Hi/UHF)Bands, for difficult reception areas it may have to be modified. A well made home Antenna will work much better ,thank you.

      AND for the frequencies, too...
      I've built several antennas, UHF/VHF back in the analogue days. I've found, too, that it isn't the digital signal that's important, it's the frequency of the broadcast signals for each channel. Everything else is marketing hype by the TV makers and the ones making and selling the antennas. That's why there are ad agencies.
      I have a VHF/UHF rabbit ears inside antenna connected to my digital flat screen HDTV, and I get all the channels within a 60 mile radius, both SD and HD, 720i and 1080i, and the signal is strong and clear, with no pixelation.
      On the other hand, my sister got a "supersonic" antenna like the one that Danny compares in this video, and it did ok for awhile; but the coax (which is cheap, low-quality cable half the size of normal antenna coaxial cable) broke or lost its connection at the connector that connects to the indoor rotor control box, and I cannot find a replacement cable for it or a connector that will fit that tiny coax. I'm not even sure if the rotor can be opened up to change the coax cable. Instead of the cable connecting to the rotor/antenna assembly with a coax connector, which would be the logical and practical design, it goes into the rotor and connects inside the housing. A new terminal connector can't be put on the coax, because the smallest coax connector is twice the diameter of the coax that is built into the Supersonic antenna, and the center wire on that flimsy coax is too small to use as the center of the connector. No matter how good the antenna is, if the coax is damaged--in this case due to shoddy workmanship and a bad decision by the antenna designer to go with cheap instead of quality--then the antenna is no good. I would not own a supersonic outdoor antenna. Compared to the "Ultimate Antenna" in this demo, the Ultimate Antenna is clearly the superior antenna.

    Danny:) You know as per Yagi antenna design that the reflector is not big enough on that antenna and that the director elements are wrong on it also. It is another one of those antennas people sell to rip off the general public. Your cat whisker phased dipole antenna has been around since radio got into the VHF and then UHF frequency bands. That design of the antenna you call the ulti-ment antenna :) that is as I said a tried and true design of old. But Danny it does peave me off to see these junky TV antennas some people are selling that you and I both know are junk! Please keep up the good work! 73 old friend, Jimmy, WX9DX, an old CW Ham Operator

    So is your "ultimate antenna" one that you made from scraps? Are you saying that your homemade one is better than the one you bought? Why don't you just say it, because I'm not quite sure what the 20 and 27 means. Is that the strength of the channel you're watching, or is that the number of channels your tv programmed based on the antenna?

    • @1framistan
      @1framistan 6 лет назад

      The 20 and 27 is the signal strength. It is called the "SNR" or "signal-to-noise" ratio. That means the distance (in dB's) from the noise-floor, up to the signal strength reading. His home made antenna works better. The store bought antennas are made to LOOK really cool. Like they could be from the starship enterprise. But the real reason they make them that way is so they will ship cheaply.... because it folds up and goes into a small box.

    • @JodBronson
      @JodBronson 5 лет назад

      He didn't use the 'original' built-in booster dB Gain... That booster is in the Remote Box Part.... This is why he didn't get good result for the 360! This is NOT a fair test results!

    Like we say in these parts (North Georgia/Chattanooga, TN), "Boy, you ain't right!"
    I'm talking about the pictures of your "wife". FAH (funny as heck).
    You should remark on the flimsy coaxial cable that is used on the "360 Motorized Amplified Rotating TV Antenna. My sister bought one of those, and after a few months--with the inside rotor control sitting still, not being moved at all--the cable lost its connection at the point where the tiny coax cable joins to the normal size connector end. The cable is too small to replace the connector with a new one, because the cable used on the antenna by the antenna manufacturer is half the diameter of a regular coaxial cable. Usually, replacement connectors for coaxial TV cables use the center wire of the coax as the center of the connector that goes into the center of the antenna connector on the TV or the rotor control. That can't be done with the coax on the 360 Antenna, because the cable is too flimsy. So, it's either get inventive with the antenna cable repair, such as splicing, or buy another antenna, because the cable doesn't connect to the antenna with a screw on connector, as one would expect. Instead it goes into the rotor housing and connects inside. I haven't taken my sister's antenna down to see if there is access to the inside of the rotor housing so that the coax can be changed (didn't have a ladder in my pocket when I was at her house last), but from what I could see from the ground, and from your video, it's a molded plastic housing with no user-access point.
    I think I'll stick with the antenna that I built for my own use. As for my sister, whatever she decides to do, it's her call, but I think I'll just build her a good antenna and be done with it--one that can be repaired easily in case of damage--and one that uses quality coax instead of the flimsy, cheap stuff that the "360" and "supersonic" antennas use.
    I did like the results you got from the "Ultimate Antenna".
    Thanks for the comparison video--and for sharing the pictures of your wife.
    Y'all be good down there in South Georgia! I have an aunt and cousin who live in Montezuma, which is just a few miles from Perry; and I lived there for several years myself, even though I'm from the hills of North Georgia and now live in East Tennessee.

    I know this is an old video but I’m commenting anyway lol. He says “I’m not gonna be using this, I’m doing this fir y’all” then says earlier that the company sent it to him. I’m assuming to review. This kills me!!! I would love someone to send me one free. I NEED it!!!!!! I’m full time rv amd my roof antenna went out!!!! Dang, wish I could catch a deal like that. 🤦‍♀️

    He didn't use the 'original' built-in booster dB Gain... That booster is in the Remote Part.... This is why he didn't get good results!

    Danny, I bought that same antenna. It was supposed to be 120 miles. Problem is the amplifier does all the work. The antenna does not have any gain built in. Also the more you use the rotator the worse it gets till it quits. The wind beat my antenna to pieces. Build one like Danny's or buy one from him. That plastic so-called 120-mile antenna sucks.Also nearly forgot, the coax with that antenna is only 25 ft long. If you add coax the antenna won't work. To get 120 miles, you need flat terrain and need a high antenna with a good amplifier.

    THose motorized antennas all exaggerate their mile range by about 300% They do that just to sell more antnenas. None of them are 150 mile range antennas. They're more closely a 50 to 60 mile antenna.

    Good demonstration. Amplified antennas receive fairly well. But the noise gets amplified with the station signal. =Better off with better antenna and no amp. (Anyone ever. tell you your wife looks just like one of those Hollywood babes who likes girls better than men??? 😅)

    the 360 Motorized TV Antenna ad is a lie you will not get 120 miles the way just a few feet above the house hdtv is wll drop off depending on the power out put of the transmitter and freq your lucky to get just pass 60 miles on a clear day I you would have to have your 360 Motorized TV Antenna over 1000 feet in the air to get any destance. I made an antenna like Danny's antenna and in my 2nd floor apt I get 60 miles I live in Wooster and get Youngstown Ohio now that is 71 miles or 61 nm LINE OF SITE ENE of me note I am about 1100 feet high on a hill my antenna in sitting inside my window with a reflector on it the antanna i repaced it with was a flat amp i got at wall mart I got 30 channels with it I now get over 45 you can see my set up on my face book. Danny's ultimate antenna is relay coo land works better than one you can buy at the store. if it was me I would use the motorized part on my antenna
