I'm glad I found Danny's channel and watched his videos. I can't tell you how many digital antennas and amplifiers I've purchased trying to pick up digital signals 15 miles away with all kinds of breaks, pauses, and basic interruptions. I can't wait to build one like Danny shows and give it a whirl. Thanks Danny

As you have said before, there is a lot of BS on youtube, And now that you have made some great videos on antennas we have something of quality to watch. I am glad you have taken the time to educate everyone on antenna's. Keep up the good work it is appreciated. And try to not worry or get so worked up over negative comments....you are doing great!!!!! Thank you for the excellent videos. I enjoy them a lot.

Danny, I made this antenna kind of poorly but I did the best I could. I want you to know that it picks up every single channel from the towers 24 miles away and when I added a Channel Master distribution amplifier it picks up the 13 channels from a tower 45 miles away. This is AMAZING because I live in the hills of northeast Tn. with 2 massive oak trees directly between my place and the towers not to mention the hills. The trees are at least 100ft and massive. I got this antenna on the roof about 25ft up. You’re great Danny! God bless you.

Hi Danny, bought your double antenna a couple years ago and absolutely love it! We're in Palm Coast Florida, 60 miles from Orlando and about the same from Jacksonville. Reception is great from both directions - uhf and vhf.
I have tried MANY different types of antennas and nothing even comes close to your design.
This is an older video but his antenna is still the best imho. Thanks Danny!

Hey ya'll. Thanks for the video dude. I've always said homemade is better. I would like to mention that anyone living in an area where there are a lot of tall trees and havin' problems getting a signal; you may need to raise your antenna higher to receive a signal. I had that problem as I am surrounded by them except on the south side. Once the leaves fell off the trees the signal was better and all my channels came in. But in the spring and summer I would loose half my channels as all the leaves grew back.

Regarding antenna gain, back in the days of "CB", I use to be concerned about signal strength vs the DB gain of the antennas I either bought or made, and the idea was to get the 'SWR', or Standing-Wave-Ratio as low as possible. I seem to remember, also, something regarding how much strength your rig would provide regarding the DB/SWR output. I also recall the standard rule for loss of signal DB for each connection between the antenna and the rig. I thing that was 1/2 db loss per/connection. MAN! - - - this was WAY BACK in the 70s for me!!! lol

Well done. I've seen that commercial antenna online and just looking at it I knew it was snake oil. One however though. That commercial antenna may be highly directional. I'm not familiar with your location to know if the TV transmitter antennas are spread out but if that's true then that explains why that commercial antenna only picked up three stations. It also explains why it needs a rotator. I like your antenna because it doesn't need a rotator and anther piece of equipment to break. It is less directional and has less complexity so it doesn't require adjusting and is more reliable. I've liked and subscribed. You're doing a great job informing the public on over the air TV antennas.

Subscribed! I am a radio/tv/antenna Addict from Tennessee. I love your ways and videos man. I am trying to get channels from Nashville TN that is 75 miles away. I only have a pole up about 20 ft. I used to have and use a 12Ft long channel master. But the reflectors were getting old. If I can build one of these, cause I fell victim to that cheap antenna that claims 150 miles. More like 15. I have an amp and all. I've made a CB dipole. I like your designs.

About 4 years ago, I set up one of those so called 150 mile antennas on my trailer awning in the country about 45 miles north of Houston, Tx. Most all of the towers are located 176 deg. / 57 miles from my location. Had an old analog tv with converter box at the time, got around 45+ channels. Old tv finally crashed so I finally got a new digital led tv, two years ago, hooked it up and got only 3 channels. After watching some of Danny's videos, I decided to checked all my connections and finally found the f connection to my trailer questionalble, so I replaced the connection. The cable that came with the antenna was RG59. The cable shilding was almost non-existant and the insulation was brittle and broke easily. After finally getting the connector replaced, I set up my new tv outside on a table, hooked the cable straight to the tv, ran a channel scan and got NOTHING. When I was disconnecting the tv from inside the trailer cabinet to bring outsides, I found the old "stick in the top antenna" from my old tv. It was simply set of rabbit ears. I was drinking a large Jack n the Box drink at the time, so just set in on top of the cup, connected the cable to the tv, ran a scan, got 32 channels. I looked around and found some plastic that I could duck tape the antenna to, then duck taped it up high to one of the legs to my awning, hooked it up to the tv, ran a scan and got 60 channels. I was impressed. My thoughts are that the RG59 cable on my 150 mile antenna is crap. The next time I make a run back to the country, I plan to completely replace it with RG6 cable, hook it up and run a rescan for channels. If it still does not work, I think I will just build one of Danny's ultimate antennas. In the meantime, I think them rabbit ears will do just fine.

Dang it! Now I have to take my antenna down and rebuild it. I built it about a year ago. By the way, I learned a lot from your videos, thanks.... Due to limited funds and having to use what I had on hand, I used wood. My bowties are directly on wood. Come to think of it, after a dry spell of a few weeks my antenna performed much better. It has started raining some lately and performance has dropped. Thanks for the good info.

Db gain is always preferred. An amplifier can only amplify what it receives db gain means a cleaner clearer reception of a signal without being distorted by outside interfrerence., Back in the day when analogue waS all that was available . People in the North Carolina hills used bed springs and it worked real well.

Your Multi-Directional antenna did a great job at pulling in more channels.. but you were putting it up against a Directional antenna. I would liked to have seen the difference in signal strength between the two antennas. Multi-Directional antennas are great when you have towers in multiple directions and don't want to be turning the antenna to view a certain channel. Like you said.. If towers are located toward one direction and weak, a directional antenna may be better at pulling them in. Also, if towers are far away and weak.. whether in one direction or in different directions, you may want to choose a directional antenna with a antenna rotary system. Have to give it to you.. You build some great antennas.

That antena that you have made, there, is called a "Cat's Whisker". My dad was a radio man and he taught me how to make one. They work very well. The other antena you make is a " Closed Loop" antenna. I never could figure out the proper size to make the loop. The "Closed Loop" antenna can also be called a "Dipole Antenna. The spacing between the antennae and the reflector is also important. What spacing do you use ?

Danny you might want to position the matching transformer (balun) inside the plastic pipe. This would keep the connector and the balun outside of the rain and moisture. The wire would exit out the pipe in the back or bottom... for a nicer look to the antenna.

Danny, ever used an old satellite dish for your reflector? Ought to be good for your "deep fringe customers." You mount the antenna where the LNB used to sit. ( *This distance is critical and this design is REAL directional!* ) Try using your little "double diamond" antenna and add longer elements for the VHF too. You'll pull in Atlanta and a few Savannah stations (at least part of the time.) Should be a fun project to fart around with. Anyhoo, "steady as she goes, Mr. Danny steady as she goes." (BTW, some builders, 'back in the day,' had pretty good luck building antennas with wood *IF* they boiled the wood in paraffin first. =Lots of trouble since PVC is so easy/better to work with. -But what do I know??? *=DON'T shoot your eye out, kid!!!!!* "

I have a small pad type one mounted in front of/on where the 3 round things are. It works great! I had to point it south towards our major city Albany NY, which is ~50 miles away.
It's somewhat directional though & I'm thinking his flat reflector would allow more side angle signal in. But I'm far from knowledgeable in this arena. I know just enough to be dangerous.
I like his design bc though it's somewhat compact, it does cover more square footage than most antennas. I'll try making one this spring & report back..

Hello Danny, thank you for replying to my question about my reception.
My nearest station is about 35-40 miles away - about an hour driving time, West from here.
I am wondering if I can't get tv reception in the new part of the house because of the construction (due to bushfire regulations).
I have a concrete floor, steel frame walls, and a steel roof.
The commercial antenna sticks up well above the roof and was working before I moved into the new part of the house.
The old house is a wood floor, wood frame walls and had a steel roof.
I don't expect you to try and fix my problems from a distance, but I just did wonder if you had any tips on what to look for.
Thanks again for your help, I do appreciate it as I am a fair way out of town and it is hard to get anybody to come out here.
    Cheers, from Rural australia.

Hi Guy.. Been using the Ultimate for awhile.. works great.. One problem I have though.. CBS is about 80 miles away and is hi-vhf.. Any suggestions on something stronger than the vhf antenna you are showing? It won't bring it in.. Could be that I just can't get it.

If you add a VHF antenna and use the VHF port on a RCA booster, it should pick up that CBS station. Danny has a video on that. I had a similar problem and this worked.

Im no antena expert but i wouldve wanted to see the test with youre antena out of the way so that both antenas are not close to each other i think it could interfere the signal since theyre that close range.

Electrically amplifying the signal is not exactly the same as increasing gain by adding elements: you need to subtract the noise to signal ratio ( the db rating) from the gain of the amplifier whereas when you add additional elements you increase the signal received though it generally does not add noise if it is connected correctly. Sincerely, Brian Nowak

Danny, do you ever install your ultimate antenna with a rotor? If you do, would you show a video of the results?

Download TV Towers app, and point the antenna at the transmitter.

Would love to see both antennas tested with both boosters on each antenna (two tests for each antenna) or, at least, use same booster for both antennas to verify that performance results have nothing to do with the booster used (antenna comparison only), or, best of all, antennas only - no boosters unless stations are too far away for fair booster-less test. There isn't any need for a booster when your test TV is less than 10 feet away as assumed from your video. Yours 3 theirs 23 could be the booster used. Until I became addicted after 3 of your videos (the Festus humor in the accent - I'm from Ohio), I was positive that my favorite character Festus Haggen was dead. Now, I'm convinced that you're alive using an alias and living with Elvis. ;) Please don't ever stop what you're doing so well. I subscribed. Note: I am pursuing a pole of precision cut to frequency vertically polarized straight half wave #8 copper clad steel dipoles (directional) for each exact station frequency within 150 mile radius of my Raleigh NC location. --KW4IQ

Good job. The rotor is a good idea in theory. I have one similar to this 150 mile.. The major problem is if you move the antenna with the remote you have no way of knowing what way your ant. is pointing.. I only use this ant. when its raining and my DirecTV goes out I`m not going outside in a rain storm to readjust my ant. Also it turns about 355 degree but you have to rotate back in the reverse direction so you don't twist and brake the cable.. By this time you have no clue where that thing is pointing.. Plus even with the booster it has trouble picking up 35 mile. I may try to build one of your Antenna`s I have pretty much everything I need. ONE big question I never see you use a ground??? Shouldn't these be grounded incase of lightening. Mine is on the roof.

I wish you were here in Australia.
I live in a rural area and I have a lot of trouble with my tv signal.
I have just moved into a new extension on my hose and I have lost my tv signal.
I have checked all my connections but still no signal!.
By the way, we are UHF /digital only here.

Any Ariel will work better on a tower mister. “ the more metal the higher “ is the motto on a site / company called “ ATV “ near Sheffield in england. This sight has relevant stuff wherever u are - various types , cable & connections and basic theory. Best of luck 😁

“ you know why the manufacturers put the connections on this side ? Cos it’s the bottom “ ....sometimes the bloody obvious just ain’t enough fella. I been playing with tv signals only at basic level of knowledge gleamed originally from “ the IBA yearbook 1979 “ when I was 15 but learned enough to bring in a signal from our neighbouring regions’ 500kw mast , 54 miles away ( Mendip / west ) albeit with a 911ft hill peak in between , using an 18 element ( uhf 54-64 ) Yagi . Still have it but it looks tiny and tinny with tiny reflector compared to the robust hi gain stuff with massive reflectors and balum I recently purchased . Anyway - an old boy in town has been in tv since the 60s ( repaired sets for the national rental company ) & still does Ariels (antennas ! ) but hasn’t any computer - just Ponies . I’m gonna blow his mind and introduce him ( Geoff ) to your work. Very much enjoy your interesting and inspirational channel , regards from wessexshire in central southern england 🇨🇮🇨🇳
