    Great video. My last RV had the Schwintek slide system and I never had any problems with it for the 7 years I owned that trailer. My new Flagstaff trailer also has the Schwintek slide and it has already started squeaking a little bit when retracing the slide. Time to get the CRC Power Lube out and give it the first lube treatment. Also love your Lance trailer - they build a really nice unit but it was a bit out of our price range.

    Thank you so much Patrick and Patty for this video. This great to know what to do with your slide out. How to lubricate it and make sure that the rubber doesn’t wear out and get water in the slide. I can see why that would be needed. I’m glad you did a video on this. It’s very helpful. See you soon!

    Nice Video! I am a Lance owner as well and I think you are spot on with the need for slide lubrication and maintenance. Another thing to be aware of is the situation where the exterior slide rails begin to tear loose from the side of the trailer. Due to the floating design of the slide in these Lances, the entire weight of the slide is carried by the wall. As you go down the road, all that weight is pushing down on the inside portion of the slide (especially if you carry your cast iron cookware collection in the dinette drawers). Over time you will likely have problems with the slide rail hardware starting to strip out and the rails separating from the trailer side. I also installed the Camco step braces under the inside of my slide to help support the slide in transit. I don't screw the braces down too tight.............Just tight enough to keep the inside of the slide from bouncing too much when traveling. I also made some carpeted pads to go under the braces so the braces don't put marks in the laminated floor.
    This is just my opinion, but I think the Schwintek system should only be used on small light slides like perhaps a small wardrobe slide. I think this Super Dinette slide is too much slide for this system.
    Here's looking forward to my next trailer without the Schwintek slide system............or perhaps no slide at all!
    Happy Camping!

    When we bought our 2019 Lance 1995 the salesman ran the slide out and it was VERY noisy, I asked about the noise and he said that’s normal. I had been a member of the Lance website for approximately two years already and was very familiar with the Schwintec problems and need for lubrication so I didn’t say anything but after taking delivery I stopped at my local NAPA store and bought a can of CRC and lubed the slide when I arrived home. Dang that slide got quiet and has been quiet ever since😃!

    I attended a Lippert slideout system seminar. Your information in holding the button down 3 to 5 seconds is spot on. But they also told us to not spray anything in the rubber seals. They said the seals should be cleaned with mild soap (Dawn) and water only and using any of the seal conditioners on the market will actually cause the seals to deteriorate quicker.

    • @TravelswithDelaney
      @TravelswithDelaney  Год назад

      Thanks for sharing. When I was at Lippert service, I asked for recommendations on the seals and was told they don’t make the seals so they didn’t really make recommendations concerning them. Sounds like they are now giving advice on them.

    Nice video... not sure if this is universal but you also have large floor rollers that support the bulk of the weight. These can be located by using a flashlight and get under the slide out and pulling down the seal. I marked my roller locations and lubricate these as well.

  • @johnhines3591

    I have a 2017 2285.
    Just a couple extra points with slide.
    Don't forget to lube the rollers underneath the slide. Just a squirt on each end.
    We don't use supports when retracted. The biggest issue is too much weight in dinette drawers. Don't think we have more than 15 lbs in either one. Never put heavy items like canned food or cast iron in them.
    6 years with our Lance & have never had an issue with slide. Not once!

    Ever notice most people complaining about slides are complaining about schwintek slides? Why manufacturers keep using them is beyond me. Luckily all 3 of our slides are rack and pinion. They do require some maintenance but I think they're a lot less problematic.

    • @TravelswithDelaney
      @TravelswithDelaney  Год назад +1

      We had the rack and pinion ones on our 5th wheel and in 8 years of ownership, never had an issue with them. I think manufacturers use the Schwintek on slides that are too big and heavy. It works fine on smaller slides like closet slides.

    • @caseypries7559
      @caseypries7559 Год назад +3

      @@TravelswithDelaney yeah, I can't argue with that. But as a mechanic, the design and positioning of the schwintek motor system just plain sucks. Extremely difficult to work on. With that said, belly covers don't make thru frame rack and pinion particularly easy but given their higher reliability I think it's less of an issue. Also in many cases they can be cranked in if they fail.

    My 2021 Lance 1985 slide just failed on our last trip - 360 days after purchase and 5 days within warranty. The dealer said Lance and Lippert came up with a repair about a month ago and they have been super busy repairing slides on Lance trailers. He said he has done so many, he has the part number memorized. Anyway, the trailer is at the dealer and I am now waiting to hear when it will be fixed. The projected timeline is 2-3 weeks. I am anxious to hear what the repair is...

    In the video, you said not to slide the slide out halfway and stop. In order for me to condition the seals on the top, I can only reach them when the slide is halfway out, even when on a ladder. Is this okay for the couple of minutes while I condition the seals, or do you have other suggestions for reaching the seals?

    Hi Patrick. I was hoping you could tell me if you have to change your converter if you switch to a lithium battery. I’m looking at getting a 100 amp hour battery. Can you suggest where I might find this kind of information? I’ve tried googling and I end up down a rabbit hole of info I don’t understand. Is it possible to get a simple answer?

    • @TravelswithDelaney
      @TravelswithDelaney  Год назад +1

      Its possible you won’t need a new converter if your trailer has a converter that can be switched to lithium. Lance in 2020 started using converters that could be switched. If your trailer doesn’t have one like that with the built in switch, then you’d need to change the converter which is what we had to do in the T@B 400
