  • I have been asked many times by my YT subscribers to do a video series on Universal Audio and the plugins that I personally use so here it is.
    This is Episode 4 - Neve 88RS Channel Strip Collection
    Each week I will be releasing a new video showing a specific plugin and how I typically use it. I hope you enjoy it!
    NOTE - I am in no way affiliated with Universal Audio and they do not pay me to do these videos. Honestly, they don't even know who I am LOL. I just show my subscribers what I use on a daily basis to mix and master and Universal Audio plugins are on every mix I do.

    Great video man. I just got this with my new Twin duo and started regretting it because i didn't know how to use it. You pretty much answered all my lingering questions and now i'm excited to start using it :-)

    David, do you feel that this is going to be one of your main go-to plug-ins for all recordings you work on going forward? I know you have your standards, but man this one is in the stratosphere!

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy
      @HomeRecordingMadeEasy  9 лет назад

      kjemradio Yea, I really love this channel strip and I am sure i will use it a lot. Having said that I will listen to the static mix before deciding which "vibe I am going for and then I decide if I want a Neve vibe or an SSL vibe, etc. then I choose which channel strip I am going tot use. Overall I lean more towards the Universal Audio plugins as I still think they make the best emulations on the analog hardware and I have been a U/A user for many years and have almost every plugin they offer at this point.
      Having said that, WAVES makes really good emulations of the classic gear as well. All the CLA and JJP stuff is great too so that is an alliterative.

    Awesome! So you prefer mixing on your DAW a dry signal using the Neve plugin, as opposed to recording the plugin through your UA console, sending the wet signal to your DAW? From what I was reading, using the plugin on your DAW actually puts less strain on your computer.... the most DSP usage will occur on the interface, when you're using/recording the plugin in real time....

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy
      @HomeRecordingMadeEasy  9 лет назад

      SantaClausSDOfficial Regardless of you using this for recording or mixing, all the DSP usage is on the U/A hardware and NOT your computer.

    Can you compare THE LATEST UAD 88RS to the Brainworx Console plugin? It's from a Neve. I I recall from the 88RS with all the bleed!

      +Christian Angelo Nilsén I did use the Brainworks version and was not crazy about it

      Home Recording Made Easy Thanks for the answer.
      I am now looking at Acustica's Navy in compare agains UAD 1073. Any thoughts?

    How does this compare to the AMS Neve 8801 channel strip? That is the big question. Stay tuned.

    Thank you, I just bought my first ever UA Interface along with a 3 plugin bundle and this is one of the 3 I chose. I have a question... is every insert slot in each input a “unison” slot? For example; if I want to record my bass using or guitar and go into the 88ra and then insert one of the unison-enabled guitar amplifiers in an insert within the same channel, will both plugins perform as unison components or just the one in the unison slot? Thank you again for this great tutorial!

    What about DSP usage? I'm waiting for my apollo 8p interface to arrive (2 quad core processor), was wondering if I could use the plug-in on say, 16 channels? Turning my UAD 2.0 console into a neve console????

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy
      @HomeRecordingMadeEasy  9 лет назад

      SantaClausSDOfficial Two Quad cards should be enough for 16 instances. Thats exactly what I do, turn my DAW into a NEVE console using this channel strip. I have two OCTO cards and I can put up to about 40 of these in the session and still have some DSP left over.

    Actually Unison was designed to copy the gain stage and impedence of the actual hardware the plugin is emulating. The unison slot is that slot ABOVE the inserts and you can only use one unison enabled plugin at a time and has nothing to do with pre-processing in order to fix latency. Unison is especially needed when using a mic pre/console and guitar amp sim. There are a limited amount of unison enabled plugs… not all UAD plugins are unison capable. the Neve you are using just happens to be a unison plug… but you didnt use it in the usnison slot. Unison is primarily used for the tracking phase. the technology is not active when mixing unless you create a virtual routing to patch your bus through your Apollo patching the I/O from the track output to your unison enabled channel.

    How does this compare to the Slate David

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy
      @HomeRecordingMadeEasy  9 лет назад

      Andy Arthur I have always thought that the U/A stuff is the best on the market with put a doubt. Having said that, the Slate version is good as well and if you already have Slate, Waves or any other plugin manufacture then I woudl stick with them

    What are you think about this plug in in 2021? Do you still use it in your mixing sessions?

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy
      @HomeRecordingMadeEasy  3 года назад

      I use the newer version of this channel strip these days along with many other from different manufactures. Just search my videos from 2020-2021

      @@HomeRecordingMadeEasy I'm planning to buy this version of 88RS from UAD, do you still recomend it? I wonder is there some better, newer emulation of this console from some other manufacturers?
