We have built 2 chicken coops, converted two sheds into avairys for our sons quails, and you should have seen my hubby face when you used the clamp to hold the wire on. Genius idea wished we knew it 5 years ago. Love your style of videos.
The first time I've been on this on my notepad and I have started enjoying that so anyway I have another place to go I'm a senior citizen and I grew up with my grandma and my grandpa they built their own home and they built their on chicken poop they did all the above we had everything there we didn't have to go to the store and buy anything cuz everything from the fruits from the herb and everything but now they're gone the house is still not there they tore down anywhere I'm enjoying this because it's bringing memories to me when I was a little girl teenager and I enjoyed with my mama my my papa dude they were my not only my grandparents but they were my parents and enjoy and God bless you and have a blessed day
I like to put a bar through the hole of the roll, and then hold the roll and walk on it as I unroll it the opposite way it was rolled. Does that make sense? So walk on the back part against the memory of the roll and it flattens it out really well and makes it a little easier to control.
Life On Beagle Road haha feel free to call me anytime! Oh and I think we were moving to NC or at least unpacking and getting settled albeit temporarily..... 😆😜
Looking to build a chicken run and these videos have given me some good tips. I too don't want to dig holes for the posts so I'll also use paving slabs. But the build of the run seems to end at this video and all the others are about the coop. I'm interested in how you did the predator-proof skirting that you briefly mentioned, especially since there is a gap between the ground and the horizontal beams at ground level. The details of doing the door would have been useful too. Also without digging holes for the posts, how did you anchor the whole structure to the ground?
nice work! as for the knee pain, try taking curcumin every day before or after breakfast, I forget which. Start with 2-3 capsules and work up until pain is gone. Also collagen is good to take for your joints and cartilage pains. And these supplements are low cost and natural. BTW, you look like Christian Bale, the actor.
You two are great working together. That is a great chicken coop. Loves and hugs from the little old lady in Alamogordo New Mexico USA. May God bless you and your family
This is what we did. Helpful hints. Put camera on something so your helper is actually helping. Also, unroll hardware cloth and measure and cut. Then staple up. Much easier. Having the hardware cloth on the front go all the way to the dirt would have been just fine. Staple the top of the predator apron right over it.
I am getting ready to have double knee replacement surgery in nov and ded. I do recommend that you have the testing done now. You DO NOT have to have surgery even if your doctor says you do. but there are so many things now that can be done to delay surgery. such as injections of gel if it is arthritis. However if you tore a meniscus then waiting could mean a lot of scar tissue to clean up. However the decision is yours. Knowing what it is means you know how to deal with the pain;
I just did this by myself, and I rolled it on the ground and cut my peices first then stapled it on. I do wish I would have used clamps though. Oh and my compressor died too!
I just found your channel and I'm going to enjoy watching this. Do you have ferrets or Martins or small predators that could get through that livestock wire? I will watch the end of this later when I'm back in the house I'm outside doing things that need to be done when it's light outside thank you so much for your video and I will get back to this cuz I can learn a lot I need to build a predator-proof chicken coop
Actually acorns are edible. You have to blanch the tannins out of them with multiple changes of water. Then you can prepare them multiple ways. That would make a great video. Try parching them like you would peanuts.
Never saw your channel before, but you guys did an awesome job with the coop. I was researching examples of installing hardware cloth for our coop build, so thanks for the tips. I did a double take when I saw your ETOWN shirt as we are from Solanco and will be there this weekend for baseball. Keep up the great vids

Love the vids...new subscriber. Got lots o good stuff for the chicken coop I’m building as well, and it’s really nice to see you going they the same stuff with your wife as I do!!(Wait until I’m actually doin the deed and then ask why I’m doing it). Keep it up folks! Luv ya!
Cover the stapled edges with furring strips. Cheap and make it much more secure! Make sure that you have hardware cloth anywhere that the birds are going to be in grabbing range. Those raccoons like to grab chickens and bite their heads off.
Watching this video with my hushb and he is seeing a common trend here... “listening to my wife is what keeps me happy and married” “get yourself a set of clamps they’re the best second set of hands” *looks back at wife* 🤣 cracking up!! Same dynamics over here!!
Your run is looking a lot better than my FB Marketplace used dog kennel panel conglomeration. But then, I didn’t have any power tools, either. I am impressed. I love the acorn pile. Looks like we’re in for a rough winter, huh Brigitte?

“Chicken w--“. I’m thinking to myself, No no no. “Hardware cloth” YES YES YES! I’m jealous of your power stapler. I hammer in all my staples by hand...every...darn...one. 😓 By they way, the small predators “at the bottom” (weasels, minks, rats) are really good climbers! If you are going to go with larger mesh at the top you should create a climbing barrier (a piece of bent flashing that sticks out and prevents climbing and jumping up to the next level). I can’t be bothered with all that, so I use hardware cloth all the way up. Birds and rats will go through that larger spaced wire and cause all sorts of problems, like multiplying your feed costs and carrying diseases. yuck. Gorgeous framing job on that run. ❤️ That thing is going to last 100 years! “Well in that case...” walks off. ROFLMAO! Nice beard. It’s good to see a man who takes care of his instead of letting it overgrow like a wild man. You are a very cute couple!
Is Courtney escaping like the goat??? I bet when she wonders off it to refill your drink 🤔🤔🤔 Awesome build & hope to see you guys at the homesteaders of America!! 🙌🙌🙌
Hardware cloth is my least favorite material to work with. I suppose I could take the time to bind edges, but I never do, and I always end up scratched to heck and back.
My husband and I have been building a custom coop and run for our chicks for the past six weeks and the more we’ve learned about the need for predator proofing, the more time and money we’ve had to invest into this project...coop is currently looking like Alcatraz with layer upon layer of hardware cloth and feet of welded wire apron around the perimeter with concrete pavers...every time we finish one section we keep looking for “breeches” and say “could a possum fit through there?” and out comes the hammer🥴🤣
Oh my gosh you guys are hilarious! The part where Courtney asks if she gonna cut herself on the wires if you don’t wrap it? That was so my husband and me! We were both 😂! Anyways nice coop! We’re subscribing, have a great day!
Yeah... we went back and forth about it, but in our area we rarely have snakes. Plus, our chickens free range about 90% of the time. This run is to help keep the chickens if we leave for a bit or if we need to plant. Our cats handle the rodents! But, if we begin to have issues well then I guess we gotta bite the bullet and pay for more hardware cloth!
I get sick when I think of meat birds 😆. I tried I know how to do it and will do it again only if I have to. People don’t understand if they had to raise and butcher their own meat everyday they probably would be vegetarian. It’s really a lot of work . Hey what’s n that cup 😆
Also it’s been my experience that predators will dig under. I would dig down a ways and bury tin or wire that would go up a little ways up the walls- The tin or wire would keep anything from digging under👌
Arch Ratliff Yup...two to four feet of pvc coated welded wire fencing and pavers to keep foxes from digging under the 2x4s. Seems like a lot of work, but just takes one fox to get in and wipe out your whole flock, depending on how many you have☹️
Hey Kenny, I have that same tool caddy! Only mine is pink. 😄 Good man, ALWAYS listen to your wife! Now you can come teach my husband that fact. 😜 You'd think after 40+ years he'd figure it out, but some men are slow learners. 😏 Hey Courtney, I looked at some goats this week! FYI I found that after 6 years the staples rusted and gave away on me ! I like the ideal of hardware cloth , im gonna do that ! 2 days ago we had 2 hunting dogs rip threw and killed a bunch of chickens had 23 now 4 hens n 1 rooster ! so a rebuild is in order here ! TY Im forfeiting !
Hopefully these staples hold up. They are galvanized and made to work with PT wood. So there shouldn't be any oxidation. Rusted staples can definitely cause some problems. Our lab did the same damage when we first got him. Now we have a plug in electric fence to keep him in check. Works great!
Make it wooden with the help of the woodglut instructions.
Trying to build my coop . You're video helped me a lot thank you for sharing your build 🙏💕

Good for you supporting local stores. All the little things matter. Lots of people focus on the cost only.
It's so important to keep our money local!

You did it, with the roll and tree. I had my doubts
We added fence slats to the outside to neaten up and hide the cut ends - that would look awesome in your run!!
Think that's the plan as well
You are hysterical and so dedicated and patient!! And let’s no forget that you are proud of your work!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️

Nail lath over the cut edges of the hardware cloth that will eliminate the possibility of getting cut with the raw edges.
Good idea!
Or you could bend over the cut end of the roll and staple it down .
That garden owl with no head looks just like mine with no head.😊
Absolutely the best...
😀
Gloves are absolutely necessary when working with hardware cloth!!!
Gloves wouldn't have done anything to save the nipple. Lol
Learned that hard way. Ouch!

About how much would you say the material to build this run would cost? Do you have a design plan and/or material list?
Love watching you guys.
Thanks😁😁😁
What about adding strips if wood (1 × 2s) over hardware cloth cloth. Kinda like screen spline on window and door screens.
Good idea!
I really like that run.on one of video looks like you have a large tree leaning towards the chicken run
Seems like it, but its clear
We so glad you came back!! 😆

What size did you use for the hardware cloth? 1/4 or 1/2?
Second time on your channel
I’m subbing because I love to learn and laugh 😂

I'll fix it if I can and then sell it. If not, I'll donate it to ReStore.
