Thanks so much. We used 2x4 welded wire all over the run but had to put a couple feet of chicken wire around bottom because small chicks could get through. Also if you have problems with weasels and mink in area you may want to use hardware cloth. Good luck and keep us up to date. Thanks Jim

I used a 100' of 2x4x36" welded wire, (could use chicken wire) 5- 2x4x10, 3- 2x8x10' , 7 - 2x4x8' all treated, Staples and 2" screws. I think this is correct. For the door 3 - 2x2x8' Going off of memory!

We have a barn, (with a chicken coop inside), and the small opening to let them run around outside but given the coyotes here in Ontario, I wanted them to have a protected run and my research led me to you guys. We just put some around bottom and zip tied them to 2x4 welded wire. Them little crtitters are so small they can get through the 2x4 welded wire. Trust me. lol

A racoon can reach in through 2x4 welded wire, grab a chicken by the neck or the wing and attempt to pull the bird through the wire until either the wing or the head pop off.
If you have trouble with those kind of critters do what I did. Put 1/2" hardware cloth around bottom 3' high. We just zip tie it to other wire. It will also serve to keep baby chicks in when you first start letting them out. We have loads of coon and possums and have never had a problem. If you want to add it higher, your choice.
It's an inexpensive brad nailer from Harbor Freight. Be sure and read the video description, there are a few extra ideas you may want to try. Thanks, Jim

Always working hard I see :) I'm finishing my chicken run this weekend we have alot of minks and little predators that get in tiny spaces so I sure hope my chicken wire will be good enough.
Thanks for your question. The boards were screwed together with a craftsman cordless and the wire was put on with a cheap harbor freight pneumatic (air) nail gun that will handle staples. Thanks again
Don't you have to use hardware clothes for the chicken coop and the chick run ? I'm planning to get some chickens if I can use these welded wires it looks better than using the small hardware cloth ? Are these Predator proof you don't think raccoons skunks or rats won't get through it ?
Sorry I tried to answer 3 times the other day and for some reason RUclips wouldn't let it it show. So here I go again. If you have problems with small preditors then use a hardware cloth. I have never seen a racoon or possum get through welded wire although I have been told small possums can. This video does not show it but I put chicken wire 3 ft up from bottom after complete. That was mainly to keep chicks in. Remember a mink can get through a 1" hole. Also we lock our chicken up every night. So you have to take all this into consideration. Hope this helps.../Jim

Thanks Hannah for the questions. There is a list in the description on lumber. As far as cost, I really don't remember but I will say this. Lumber prices has went thru roof. If you have a couple different places you could compare it would be a good idea to do so. Good luck with your build.

Hi and thanks for watching. I used an18 Gauge 2-In-1 Air Nailer/Stapler. It's a cheap one I picked up at Harbor Freight after my Craftsman died. It works better than my old one did. The staples I used was 18 GA X 1/4 In. Crown 1/2 In. Galvanized Staples. We decided to let the chicks out early and the 2x4 welded wire was big enough they could get thru so I put 2' high chicken wire around bottom and over the top of the welded wire with zip-straps. I'ts been working great. They are big enough now that they are ready to free range just as soon as I clip wings and if it ever stops raining. Have a great one and thanks for watching! / Jim

I had chicken wire and the weasel got two chicken before I tried to get him I was wondering do you have weasels around there I'm scared they will get them I actually love the birds
We don't have any trouble with them in this area. But yes a weasel or mink will get through very small holes. The only thing you can do is to use rabbit wire and then there isn't any guarantee. Weasels and minks kill for the fun of it. Sorry to hear you have em in your area. They are no fun to deal with once they get started.
Thanks for comment. At a later date I added chicken wire to the bottom of the fencing. That was to keep chicks in and will also help keep critter from getting in. I have a video on an auto door added to the chicken house. It shuts them up at night. I also tell in the discription that if you have trouble with weasels, minks or snakes you may have to use smaller fencing/wire. We have never had an issue here but your location may. If so I would use 1/2" wiring as stated in discription. Thanks again!

It depends on how many chickens you have. That’s a big space though. Our building is only 6x8.

The one I used was the 18 gauge 2-in1 air nailer /stapler from Harbor Freight. Hope this helps.

I have used a 2 x 4 goat fence and have had something getting i. My coop.. I think I’m going to wrap it with chicken wire
Yes depending on what preditors you have in your area depends on what you use. Even a mink can squeaze thru 1" chicken wire. You may need to go with 1/2" hardware cloth. Thanks for watching. / Jim

Around the bottom I added chicken wire to keep baby chicks in, other than that it has worked great.
Can’t a weasel get in through the spaces in the wire wrap?
Yes also minks, rats and snakes. In the video discription I tell people to use 1/2" if you have problems in your area with those critters. Thanks

Hi and thanks for watching. I used an18 Gauge 2-In-1 Air Nailer/Stapler. It's a cheap one I picked up at Harbor Freight after my Craftsman died. It works better than my old one did. The staples I used was 18 GA X 1/4 In. Crown 1/2 In. Galvanized Staples. We decided to let the chicks out early and the 2x4 welded wire was big enough they could get thru so I put 2' high chicken wire around bottom and over the top of the welded wire with zip-straps. I'ts been working great. They are big enough now that they are ready to free range just as soon as I clip wings and if it ever stops raining. Have a great one and thanks for watching! / Jim

I had chicken wire and the weasel got two chicken before I tried to get him I was wondering do you have weasels around there I'm scared they will get them I actually love the birds
We don't have any trouble with them in this area. But yes a weasel or mink will get through very small holes. The only thing you can do is to use rabbit wire and then there isn't any guarantee. Weasels and minks kill for the fun of it. Sorry to hear you have em in your area. They are no fun to deal with once they get started.
Always always always use hardware cloth when birds have 24 hr/day unsupervised access to a run.
How do you keep predators out with that large of an opening in the fencing? Anything smaller than a coon can squeeze right in.
Thanks for comment. At a later date I added chicken wire to the bottom of the fencing. That was to keep chicks in and will also help keep critter from getting in. I have a video on an auto door added to the chicken house. It shuts them up at night. I also tell in the discription that if you have trouble with weasels, minks or snakes you may have to use smaller fencing/wire. We have never had an issue here but your location may. If so I would use 1/2" wiring as stated in discription. Thanks again!
