Obtaining options via a second citizenship, or third, or fourth, is a wise move. Chile, Columbia, Paraguay, even Malaysia, or Dubai, etc may diversify your citizenship holdings but if you have zero attraction to the culture, even if/when the proverbial manure hits the fan, they're effectively useless. Yes, the US, Germany, and New Zealand have lurched leftward, but what they have that some places on your "potential" list don't is they're a known entity; they have structure and long term stability you can work with and through even in the bad times.

If you have a physical product and have to be in a legacy brand country for the consumer base, then follow Robert Kiyosaki's cash flow quadrant and Apple's tax haven model (ireland>netherlands>jersey), but if you dont have to be in a LB country, its better to avoid all of that hassle and just move out to a lower tax country. I finally understand the incentive that Andrew is talking about and its more than just, "I didn't fit in."

to me it seems those passports are not additional, but meant as replacement of US and GER as soon as shit hits the fan.
Peter Thiel was obliged to ask nicely twice to keep his german passport, first for US and second time for NZ. maltese citizenship is a no brainer for germany for obvious reasons: unless you aim for top level job in government you dont need a german citizenship and any citizenship from the other >25 EU/EEA member states will suffice to reside and set up business.

I think one thing you only skimmed here are the obligations based on residency and/or citizenship. It's not a one-way street where you just go shopping for beneficial citizenships for you. It's a marriage. Even if you don't live there, there might be taxes imposed (doesn't US do this, among others?), and for example here in Finland, males under 29 are conscripted when they are naturalised. And giving up your citizenship might not be as easy as portrayed here. You need to ask to renounce it and they might refuse. Also things to consider especially in the latter speculation and if you're considering authoritarian countries or those in conflict or near one.
