I remember buying the Mega Man collection for PS2 and beating all these games in a day. I played the first five games so much as a kid that they became muscle memory. MM is one of those franchises that hits the sweet spot of being challenging without being unfair. I played the SNES games for the first time as an adult and was surprised at how challenging they were and how many secrets they packed into those games.
my first Megaman game was Megaman 4, still own it & it still works, love that the weapons in it are labeled instead of 1 letter or number, plus the Mega Buster
Yay, more Megaman! I appreciate this a lot. Only ever beat Megaman 2 and I'm working on Megaman 3 right now, but the first game is tough! I'm also trying to finish X3 but I just beat Megaman X2. Playing through both collections.
Another excellent class, Professor! Loving the comedy intros. He looks like... "someone who realizes they've just been caught in 4K and are going to be a meme so hard, it'll loop around and become reality in 30 years." "that guy who got lost on last night's pub crawl and is desperately trying to think up a reasonable excuse to tell his girlfriend." "someone who played Blaster Master and Fester's Quest consecutively in the same afternoon."
I always start with Cut Man. He takes more damage from the Mega Buster than any other Robot Master, so he's a viable candidate. Then I take out Elec Man and immediately go back into his stage since as you pointed out the Elec Beam can actually destroy those blocks that bar your path to the Magnet Beam, negating the need for the Super Arm to lift them out of the way, The reason I do this is that I absolutely cannot get past those platforms early in Guts Man's stage and I just use the Magnet Beam to cheese my way past them.
Hey that's why it's in the game (the Magnet Beam). I like the idea of having it for Guts Man's stage considering how easy it is to drop like a sack of bricks there without knowing the timing.
This was the very first game I ever rented. I remember being amazed that MM would actually blink. Seems ridiculous now, but when you grew up on Atari back then, little things like that were absolutely amazing. Never could beat it back then (didn't know about the pause trick, because ya know...no internet) and got stumped at the Yellow Devil. I've remained a diehard MM fan to this day, though.
Such a long and fun intro! Classic game and the second in series I played (after #3). Man that Elec Man theme sure sounds like a Journey song in parts...
I never put the two together, but knowing how much Japanese developers seemingly universally loved the rock of the 80's (certainly IN the 80's) they very likely were channeling "Faithfully" with that theme. Ha probably why I liked it so much as a kid; that's a great hook.
Speaking of MM1 only having 6 Robot Masters, the PSP Remake "Megaman: Powered Up" added in two new Robot Masters -- Oil Man and Time Man. Interestingly, Powered Up not only added in Roll and Protoman as playable characters, by beating the Robot Masters with just the Plasma Cannon alone (remember, it wasn't until MM4 that it was upgraded to the Mega Buster) you can salvage the boss and make them playable. [Though of course Megaman has a playable version based off his MM4-self, with sliding and Mega Buster charging being available]
Nice, I need to check that out and I like that they put those in as a little unlockable reward to incentivize trying that challenge. I have to give Roll a roll, curious how she plays.
You need to be careful with the "pause trick" on Dr. Wily's second form. The very first time I used the pause trick on Dr. Willy's second form, his last hit point disappeared, then Mega Man suddenly ran off the screen, on his own, to the right and I ended up with Mega Man on a black screen and the game soft locked on me. You need to take out Dr. Wily's last hit point with a regular Electric shot but don't use the pause trick. I think you got lucky because I had a friend back in the day that had the same thing happened to him and it was on a different copy of the game. Are you using an authentic cartridge on an authentic NES or are you using a clone system or are you emulating? That might make a difference.
Just a heads up: You know how in EVERY Megaman game from 2 on if Megaman takes a hit and has a few Invincibility frames, he can walk on spikes safely for a couple seconds? Well, dont expect such a luxury in MM1. Even with the I-frames, you land on spikes, you go boom.
Also, growing up I'd start with Bomb Man, but I've tried starting with Fire Man, when a little doggo suggested it, and it's literally no more difficult.
Yeah if you can avoid the attacks of the boss or their attacks aren't regular or dangerous enough you can definitely justify starting with other bots like Fire Man.
Nice, this was a good one for the weekend rental. One of those games you could make incremental progress in (figuring out boss weaknesses, etc.) and finish in a couple days with a lot of work.
A couple of things that I would like to note: 1. When it comes to Boss order, I start with Guts Man. I do that to get the Magnet Beam as soon as possible. Makes life easier all around. 2. I'm surprised at the lack of referencing about Elec Man's theme. Those 4 bars have been used in DOZENS of songs going back to at least '79, when Cheap Trick used them in "Way Of The World."
Yeah someone else recently mentioned Journey, and I can definitely hear "Faithfully". Likely a lot of songs either consciously or subconsciously informed that hook/its writing. And yeah, I probably could have leveraged the Magnet Beam more/earlier. Someone mentioned starting with Cut Man to get it before Guts Man's stage (presumably Cut Man to Elec Man, then revisit Elec and use his weapon on the block to grab the Magnet Beam), making those platforms a lot easier.
The intro was hilarious. You and Fluff made me laugh XD. I agree the artwork is terrible. Capcom: Yeah that's fine. We can still sell this game despite its artwork. Luckily they learned their lesson in later entries... sorta.
You know if you press and hold attack on magnet beam, you can make huge long beams and walk right across big spike pits and pitfalls like iceman,s level? Lol
Now I find out, ha! Yeah those platforms are incredibly useful; the more runway you can get the better - just gotta watch out for when they disappear as MM definitely drops like a sack of bricks.
All of those shout outs in the beginning of the video but not one mention of how Mega Man was in Captain N, The Game Master show…… where was Fluff on that fun fact!???!?!?! He he he he he he.
I usually love these videos of yours, as I've watched at least 20 of them, but I couldn't "Like" this one. I admit to using the pause/electricity trick on the Rock Monster, but you did it against every boss that it was possible on and all used a turbo button for the main cannon. This video doesn't teach people how to beat the game, it teaches them how to cheat through the game.
I appreciate the candor Murdoc; I love that trick to a fault I admit, ha. I'll update this with alternative strategies in the near future, so thank you again!
@@VideoGames101 I meant no offense, but you see my point. I know that you're a very skilled gamer with your no death runs. I appreciate your response, and I'm definitely a fan of your channel. Thank you for all of your entertainment.
This is also the only NES MM game where if you get knocked into spikes by an enemy, you instantly die. You lose the invincibility frames from the enemy hitting you. Also, the only MM game that gives you points

A thing I didn’t know I needed, thanks!
Haha always!

Mega Man 4 is a personal favorite of mine and I've called it the high water mark of the NES series myself at times (ha unpopular opinion admittedly).
I'm the one who laughed at the Roman numeral joke...
There you are, you know I appreciate it!
@@VideoGames101 ironically, I didn't laugh, but Megaman taught me Roman numerals.
Loved the Highlander reference... That is perhaps one of my favorite movies from the 80s...
There can only be one!
Always so informative and entertaining:)
Thank you kindly Polwad!
Yay, more Megaman!
I appreciate this a lot. Only ever beat Megaman 2 and I'm working on Megaman 3 right now, but the first game is tough! I'm also trying to finish X3 but I just beat Megaman X2. Playing through both collections.
Yeah I love that all the MM games are so readily available these days in all the collections. Ha I'm sure Capcom loves that, too.
Another excellent class, Professor! Loving the comedy intros.

Haha the Blaster Master and Fester's Quest in one afternoon got me.
The roast of the mega man cover art was well deserved lol. What the hell was capcom thinking.
Ha that cover art was an after (after after) thought.
Im dying😂 “no YOU change”
Mega Man says no.
I always start with Cut Man. He takes more damage from the Mega Buster than any other Robot Master, so he's a viable candidate. The pause trick makes this game very easy, I only die once per playthrough
I know, I take flack for using it but it works so well/is so satisfying!
love this game, never used the pause trick. had a lot of trouble with the yellow devil first time
Yellow Devil is extremely difficult without the trick; so much needle threading.
Proud of myself that, when I was a kid, beaten the game without any glitch! The controllers has been thrown many times indeed.
You should be, some of those later bosses are no joke. Yellow Devil alone!

The Yellow Devil is one of my favorite boss designs but yeah he's ridiculous and amongst the hardest in this game.
😂 OMG... can't breathe... That intro 😂
This cover art demands to be eviscerated!

This was on an NES, and that's a good point. I'll update this with an alternate solution, not to mention a note about that possibility.
Hey I recognize the Yashichi at 38:28 from another Capcom game "U.N. Squadron"!
Very enjoyable class - thank you!

That's true! They worked that into a lot of their games.

Yeah no temporary invincibility. The gravity physics are especially rough in this one, as well.

Heh yep they FINALLY got it together by Mega Man 3 on the artwork.
Funniest into yet, but I haven't seen them all
Ha I always love kicking around a deserving (bad) cover art with Fluff.
3:35 MegaMan looks like he just found out due to time travel his father was killed, and he has to sleep with his mom so he can be born.
Haha if Fluff and I went another 100 rounds I don't think we'd have gotten to that one, but it certainly fits.
