Dr. Sparhawk! I love your videos! I was so sad when you stopped uploading. Could you possibly do a video further explaining "diopters" and how prescriptions for lenses work? Thanks!
good question. I usually use 1 drop. for some people two drops (which are complimentary) are used. If there is need to keep the pupil dilated for an extended period there is a type that will leave the pupil open for 24 hours.
What about pupil dilation and light sensitivity after the use of acid (and by acid, I mean a miscellaneous psychoactive/psychedelic substance active in the micro-gram dose). The light sensitivity is of moderate insensitivity, and can become painful when looking at a computer screen specifically. This problem didn't exist before taking two tabs of acid, and does now even up to two weeks after- though periodically. Pain is reduced slightly via taking off glasses, but persists after its started. Upon examining eyes, pupils are dilated during these periods. Could this be due to scratches on the glasses causing light sensitivity, some sort of dietary issue effecting eye health (e.g. nutrient deficiency), or could this be directly related to other acid (i.e. if it was 'fake acid' like a research chemical, such as NBOMe, that caused some sort of physical alteration with the pupil dilation mechanism)? Is there a safe way of making the pupil contract (e.g. specialized eye drops) to reduce the pain from light sensitivity, or is this something that should be examined by a professional?
Dr. Sparhawk thanks for your videos, How often we are allowed ourselves to dilate pupils ? is it a problem if i were 2 month ago and i had a pupil dilatation and i want to go again to another test? ( i have eye floaters and they multiplied in number)
I've had my pupils dilated many times by my glaucoma doctor. It's harder to dilate my eyes because they're really small and my left eye is the worst eye. So far my eye pressures have been good because of my eye drops. I've also had the applanation tonometry many times by my glaucoma doctor for 15 years.
i've had Photophobia all my life as well as a few other conditions. I can't go out in regular weather without wearing sunglass which I hate. If I dilute my eyes can that help with the situation? Or will it make it worse? I've seen some video on how to dilute them yourself at will.
There are several. The one I use most is called Tropicamide. Another common one is Phelylepherine. Yet another, used for the big long lasting dilation is Cycopenolate. They all work in different ways.
My daughter is 5yrs she got her eyes dilated on Thursday around 12:30noon and today is Saturday 8am and her pupils are still 75% dilated !! Is that normal?? Should I take her to the ER
Why does dialting the eyes hurt so much, literally feel like your eye is on fire when the dialating drops are put in, even though they put the numbing drops in first? It always happens, the numbing drops dont work, and i end up feeling this searing pain.
is this normal to a baby? my daughters pupils in her eyes is moving or adjusting to its original shape it grows bigger almost levelled to the next black part of her eyes.and it can turn back smaller on its original shape
Now l want get my eyes dilated when l get my eyes checked soon. l have a high astigmatism. My contacts have high power which wear them all the time its time to get my eyes checked. Your videos are great.
i got it that it is important to dilate pupil for fundus examination but why doctors dilate pupil for retinoscopy and give two readings i.e. retinoscopy with dilation and they call once more after a week for giving a confirm power of glasses.how dilated pupil helps to determine the power of glasses?
Did it yesterday. Six to 8 hours before pupil started going down. It was like you turned on your monitor full brightness, just this bright milky haze. Being under a blanket and still too bright was strange. It was still like that this morning. The rest of the day eye felt tired and sensitive. Usually I could adjust from going from the inside to outside into the sun in like 10 seconds. Today took 1/2 hour. I felt worn out from the whole exam today, like you feel when you have exercised muscles for the first time in a long time.
i went to the eye doctor today and got my eyes dilated. he put the drops over my eye lashes, so i didnt even have to open my eye. after he looked at my eye, he asked if i ever had an infection in my left eye. And then he said i have a scratch on my eye, but it doesnt have any effect over my vision. what is the scratch? is there any way to fix it?
@leahcimrac For some people who might not know, Photophobia is sensitivity to light. Dilating the eyes like we do for the exam actually makes the eyes much MORE sensitive to light for those couple hours that they are dilated. For some reasons, some known and some unknown, there are people who are more photophobic than others. Unfortunately, in most cases the only thing to do is just what you are doing, sunglasses and a hat.
I honestly never realized this or spoke to anyone about this but I can dialate and constrict my pupils at will. I realized this while swimming, I can see a lot better under water when I dilate my pupils and in the dark. Hence my RUclips search found your video. Since I have no knowledge about this associated with other human's, May I ask, have you ever heard of this
Everyone has that ability unconsciously, you are conscious of it and it makes you unique, lead through your intuition associated with your spleen in your body as it is clearly defined.
I had this done today and it has been nearly 11 hours. My pupils still look like black holes. My question is at what point in time should I talk to a doctor to see if something is wrong cause they have not gone down?
Some times three drops is used. The first is to measure the pressure of the eyes. The following two for the dilation. I typically use just one drop for the dilation but in some eyes two is needed. Some Drs automatically just put two in for every one.
justinsparhawk sir eye is not getting back to normal after examination of glaucoma pupil dilated since 5 days upto now dilated eye not getting normal what to expect dr. They are not saying actuly it happen the time of examination
i just had and eye exam after about 4 years and the doctor did not dilate my eyes. I wonder why because i have not gettting use to my glasses. Help me understand this
To me it's the zoom in & zoom out of human eye 😄 that lense is just trying to focus. If you think i'm lying look at your phone for long minutes, close your eyes & open them again you'll feel the same thing that you see on the screen of your digital camera...
Nope. I know that for the most part, dilation and constriction is involuntary. But I know some people can train mostly involuntary actions so I wouldn't rule it out or be surprised if some one could do it.
i love the big pupils ... but they were gone the next day... i had all of those problems at first but when i cam home i got in the shower and slept a little bit and then when i woke up i could see normal .... but the only sad thing is that the pupils aren't that big anymore :(
I'm wondering, what about the drops makes your pupils dilate? I mean isn't it supposed to be light that makes it go big and small. Then how can a few drops of solution make it even bigger than any kind of light or lack of light could. I'm always wondering how big your pupils could get in total darkness, probably never know because you'd have to turn on some kind of light to check. lol jk.
I went to the eye doctor and got my pupiles dilated @9:00 am, and they are still dilated, wtf! as I type this I can barley see what I'm typing, I can't see thing upclose and its like my glasses don't work, couple hours my ass. this shit sucks
if a doctor ask to dilate your pupiles, pls avoid, it ruins your eye sight for about a couple of days, and if your in school, its like hell trying to see the board
it IS sadistic!! i went for an eye examination and I had to walk home alone in the afternoon with a bright sun. Its bloody freaky!! i never had eye problems and when i couldn't see my own hands properly, i Freaked out! when i got home somehow... i couldn't look at anything and my eyes were so DAMM sensitive to the afternoon sun. i slept for like 5 hours in the noon then when i woke up, it was as if i just woke up from a nightmare!! it was pretty traumatic!! They Should find an alternative!!!
VERY educational and answered a lot of questions. Thanks!!
Dr. Sparhawk!

Did we all look this up for drug use lal

my left eye hurts and when I checked it it was small and then my right one was big.... or was it just me??

How many drops do you put? My Mother had an eye exam and it took her nearly 5 hours for it to dialate HALF of its normal size

I don't like the atropine eye drops. 3 days later my pupils are still dialated.
Now l want get my eyes dilated when l get my eyes checked soon. l have a high astigmatism. My contacts have high power which wear them all the time its time to get my eyes checked. Your videos are great.
Cool, kind a like natural night vision goggles. Lol

Right now as I write this, my pupil are dilated and massive, everything is brighter and when I go outside the light burns!

plenty of people can do that actually. just look it up. They will demonstrate for you .

Does being able to dilate your pupils at will affect how well you can see objects from far away?
Yeah I was wondering the same thing
i just had and eye exam after about 4 years and the doctor did not dilate my eyes. I wonder why because i have not gettting use to my glasses. Help me understand this
When I was a kid they put like four drops in. Weird.
Know anything about pupil dilation/constriction on command?

my left eye is slight dilated by a few mm how can i fix this issue?
You answered every question but the one I watched this video for.. How do they dilate or what happens when they dilate
They use a numbing eye drop and then the one that dilates because it burns. I get it done every year because I have bad vision from being a preemie
I got my eyes dilated yesterday and i still cant see well today :( How long should it take??
i love the big pupils ... but they were gone the next day... i had all of those problems at first but when i cam home i got in the shower and slept a little bit and then when i woke up i could see normal .... but the only sad thing is that the pupils aren't that big anymore :(

@Oozyroflcopter Size of an adult = not an adult. Size is not the reason medicines have age restrictions.
