The real reason I'd the poverty driving people to make desperate action such as robbery armed or not. We can kill all the criminals, but the underlying issue of poverty, no universal Healthcare, and laughable minimum wage will still create more crime. He was a bad DA in San Francisco, and is worse in LA, a lot worse. SF is on the verge of recalling it's failed DA. LA needs to do the same. What Gascon misses is that even if things like gang enhancements are not deterrents to crime, they do keep violent felons in prison longer, and that keeps them from committing crimes. He may "feel" these don't deter crime, but they are part of the law. His job is to enforce the law, and not play social worker, or woke policy advocate. The efforts in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s to put violent and repeat criminals in prison for long periods of time did increase prison populations, but they also drove down crime rates dramatically. Recent policies to not charge gang enhancements and three strikes, to do away with cash bail, and to release criminals early have led to the increases in crime that we are all seeing. Most times when a violent crime is committed it seems it is done by a repeat offender out on parole, or released from custody pending trial. The recent mass shooting in Sacramento is but one clear example of this. At least one of the shooters was released on parole against the advice of the Sacramento DA. Gascon fails to use all of the tools available to his office while LA burns. He needs to be recalled, and soon.
That is exactly what I say to the morons who say "LONG SENTENCES DON'T KEEP US SAFER!" if they will reoffend regardless of length of sentences then it's 100% irrefutable that a longer prison sentence will keep us safer by not letting them victimize another person outside incarceration.

The choice is simple. Either you put violent criminals in prison for a long time or law abiding citizens live behind locked doors, prisoners in their own homes. It should be an easy choice to make.

The mayor in LA is a Democrat. Of the fifteen city council members 14 are Democrats and 1 is an independent. The Police Chief is hired by city leadership. The DA is a Democrat. The AG is a Democrat. The issues LA is having are not racial. They are cultural, and are nurtured by the Democratic Party.
The most recent Republican mayor of LA served from 1993-2001.
Of course enhancements aren’t a deterrent but they can’t commit crimes if they are locked up. Some people should stay behind bars
