  • I just rented the car from Lyft for ride share. It has been driven for only 3 days, and the car has an engine problem. The car is not driveable due to shaking so hard. The car now needs to be tow back to Lyft.

Years ago someone said that driving for Uber is like taking one long drive that ends with your car in the junkyard.

Yes basicallt you work to pay the car off but by the time you pay it off car is ran 100,000’s of miles and yoy end up with a car full off promblems that are due soon 🙃 trust me did this for 3 years full time .. first year used a beater car decided to get a 2019 ford fusiin in less then 2 years managed to put over 70K Miles on it and car still wasnt paid off so yes guys your new car will end up old. That mentality that after you pay the car all the money is for your pockets then is just a very savage way of thinking about this whole thing

On their website, Lyft says that when renting the earnings per trip are about 17% lower due to them trying to account for insurance and other expenses. It's why I never rented from them unless they had a promotion that made the weekly rental cheaper.

makes ZERO sense they take money from your rides to cover insurance, they screw driver on fare, plus the charge the driver a fairly moderate amount for weekly rental fees

at the junkyards in my town, already removed transmissions go around 500 with warranty (200 if I remove it myself), replacing it in a Corolla should be another 3-500 at the most. you do not need a new or rebuilt-new transmission in the old corolla

It I were you, I'd repair your Corolla's transmission. That engine will last 300,000 if you maintain it properly and don't use cheap gas. I'm expecting to do the headgasket and suspension on my Prius. I'm at 140,000 miles and will put another 140,000 on it, maybe more. It is worth the expense, and will be much cheaper than renting or buying a new car.

Wouldn't it be cheaper just to buy another used car, because you would only be making an affordable monthiy car payment vs. weekly rental which is sbout $300 per week and also you would not have to worry about mileage? You can write off the mileage for taxes.
