Pizza, pasta, lasagne, calzone, etc.

Im African America & this comment is underrated 😂😂😂😂 its should have way more likes Italian food is the best food outside of soulfood "mexican food" are in 3rd place but those 3 are the best its hard to say NO & stay in shape whn, soulfood,Italian & mexican dishes are tempting u lol
The food is just ok
Paulie Spadafora was an Italian American world champion. Joe Calzaghe was half Italian. Michele Piccirillo was a world champ from Italy. Once Italians started to get out of poverty, boxing became an afterthought
Enzo Macaranelli was a good recent Italian/Welsh boxer
Paulie was specifically talking about Italian Americans. Joe Calzaghe is an Italian who was born in Wales.
Could it be that they were not good enough.
@@Billy_Warren Thzts a lie he was full Italian his mother was British.
Rocky Balboa was also 90% Italian I think
I used to see Jake LaMotta walking along Park Ave . One day I shouted ," Champ", I was trying to show moral support, cause his son had recently died in a plane crash. Upon hearing my words,Jake pumped his fist in the air. Forever champion Jake ,big heart,I will never forget that day.
Cool story bro, thanks for sharing . . . . . . I'm 1/2 Italian, Jake 'the ragging bull' LaMotta was always one my fav - stud Italian fighters.
He was a throwback to when men were M-E-N. Dial back the clock, waaaaaaaaaay back and you got some of toughest-talented fighters in boxing history......Rocky Marciano, Rocky Graziano, Carmen Basilio, Jake LaMotta, Ray 'boom boom' Mancini in the 80's, Vinny 'the paz' Pazienza in the 80's + 90's, Arturo Gatti in the 90's and Paulie in the 2000's etc.

Great video Paulie... Alot of people don't know or appreciate the history of the different cultures in Boxing... I'm Puerto Rican 🇵🇷 but love & respect the great Italian 🇮🇹 fighters from the past & present. Good stuff bro
Spaghetti and meatballs killed more Italians, than all the wars 😜 - Willie Pep.
Jokes aside, Italian-American boxers, what a generation for boxing! 🥊🥊 defensive genuis like Willie Pep, and absolute warriors like Marciano, Graziano, Basilio!
I love that documentary little giants HBO.
I like how your channel is shaping up Paulie. I notice the little touches each video builds off of the last. Intro and background music, using budget well. Some of my buddies are looking forward to Vidcon next month. They don't have the star power that you do, but some of the features there really set them up to live exclusively off of RUclips income. Best wishes champ!
I'm an Irish American. I went up to see John Duddy fight in msg the night you fought Cotto. There were almost no Italians there to support you. I asked the few that I found what happened. They said all the Italians moved out of Brooklyn.
Few neighborhoods like Bensonhurst but yeah Brooklyn isn't the same anymore.
They all moved to New Jersey, Staten Island, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.

Really good video. Fan of your content and your take on boxing in general.
Thank you for this video brother . Thank you for recognizing the great Italian legends and the great Italian culture
I am really looking forward to this..
The Italians had some amazing fighters back in the 30s and 40s..
I suppose gentrification in to the predominantly Italian areas didn't help , you go to new York today and you do not hear the old school accent anymore.. all these things are connected
Staten nd Jersey
Come to St. Louis. You still hear the old timers.
Great video Paulie, thank you from Ireland =]
There's a few Italian boxers sprinkled out there. I think the best one is Ivan Zucco who shout out to Dazn hosted his fight in Italy not too long ago.
Well done bro. Well presented and nailed it...
Wonderful! Paulie, please give us your top ten Italian-Boxers of all time in heavyweight, welter and middleweight. I would love to see your presentation on these three star studded weightclasses that still have huge pull today.
Prosperity ended our tradition in boxing
Great video Paulie
amazing and insightful video, really cool
Great vid
All the love! My Italian boxing was huge in my house growing up and now being 36 with kids I've always let them stay up late when it's boxing night.
Glad I stumbled upon Paulies channel. Mad love Magic Man. I appreciate how youve spoken out about the state of the country and standing as a true Patriot when it isn't trendy amongst pro sports. All the best man and much love and respect.
Good one, boss.
Paulie the historian. Good job.
Wow I was just thinking about this yesterday.
I'm Italian and here the biggest sport by far is football, that's the main reason I believe why today there aren't Italians at the highest level of this sport, not as practiced. But historically many big names come from Italian origins, Tony Canzoneri, Nicolino Locche, Rocky Marciano, Willie Pep, Jake LaMotta, Graziano, Calzaghe, Arturo Gatti, Benvenuti and even Cus D'Amato. Some were geniuses of the sport, some pure warriors
U are totally right, all the business is on soccer here in italy :(
It's moto GP bro not football.peace out Joe the Italian
great article willie pep is the only boxer in history to have had two winning streaks of 60 plus fights 1st streak 62 fights lost to sammy angot 2nd streak 72 fights lost to sandy sadler 229 wins most by any world champion boxer record no one will beat great fighter
Pep was boxing wizard! Will of the Wisp!🥊🥊🇺🇲🇮🇹
Hey Paulie I’m African American I love all the sports and it’s funny how Boxing for Italian Americans and Baseball for us has almost completely disappeared in our respective communities and they both used to be America’s top sports but generally speaking I think neither seems to be as popular among us native born ethnic Americans anymore🤷🏾♂️
Agree with you
Thank you Paulie for your insightful commentary regarding what contributes to the otherwise pausity of Italian fighters in today's fight game. Which is and has always been a common immigration story. Immigrants, that if not for boxing, baseball, or basketball, might never have propelled themselves into the middle class. Yesteryear, it was the Italians, Irish, and even Jews. While today, it's the Puertorican, Mexican, Dominican, or Asians. All fighting, in an effort to improve their lives and those of their families, with the hope of joining the middle class. Immigrant Italians, Irish, and Jews, have arrived...while the other group continues to represent.
All of the usa champions are black americans what u talking about
@@meekyhancock1387, of course, but Black Americans have always, since 1865, been considered uniquely American. While the groups mentioned, mostly due to language and culture, have been considered to be "the others." Although, a viable argument can be made, that Blacks were among the first immigrants...no disrespect intended.

Grande Paulie! Qualche settimana fa in Italia c'è stato il match tra Giovanni De Carolis e Daniele Scardina, il primo ha vinto nettamente per KO, ad oggi è l'ultimo italiano ad essere stato world champion se non ricordo male

A lot of them became musicians in the 70's and 80's, especially guitar players, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Al Di Meola, Michael Romeo, Al Pitrelli, John Petrucci, Chris Impellitteri and so on.
Frank Zappa!🎸🎸🇺🇲🇮🇹🇬🇷
Willie Pastrano was another dancing slickster he was underrated as hell and gets very little recognition unfortunately.
Late 19th Century (1892) when President Harrison made his Columbus day proclamation, it kickstarted the inclusion of Italian Americans into whiteness proper. Sure, after that time Italian Americans faced discrimination w/ the immigration restrictions on Italians finally being lifted in 1965, but this gives some idea of why Italian Americans were still living adjacent to black folks until just recently and how they began separating themselves from the remaining marginalized communities. Its really interesting to learn about.
Just found you, Mr. Malignaggi, and really enjoyed it. One of the last REAL Italian neighborhoods is near where I live, my family is from there, and you are right. They LOVE their sports stars. Especially boxing and baseball. But I was steered away from it, eventually.
You're also right about Pep. UNBELIEVABLE. I collect, and have for years, fight films and he was amazing. Especially when you consider what he did AFTER his plane crash. He was told he would never walk again. And I think he was fighting again in less than a year. Greatest Featherweight ever and one of the top 10 fighters period.
Besides Raging bull, which other boxing movies do you rate? I think it would be interesting watching you review boxing movies.
Italian boxers have one of the greatest heart inside the ring ..
The points your making are true..if they can get a life outside the ring they will..a good life at that
I was born in Los Angeles, California, but raised in Brooklyn, New York (Bensonhurst) in an Italian enclave. In the 1970s when I was growing up a lot of Italians were still into Boxing but they were more into business. The last middleweight champion that was Italian was Vito Antuofermo. In November 1979 Vito fought Marvin Hagler in one of his best fights that ended up as a draw. Vito cut easy. He took too many unnecessary punches. But he was like a bull that kept coming. He would eat a punch to come inside and pepper Hagler's face with hard combos by the middle rounds. For 15 rounds of enduring brutal punishment, Vito showed what true determination was. However, that fight wore out Vito. There is no way the human body can take that abuse and survive as a fighter. You have to know how to roll with the punches and not just run into them. Vito lost a lot after the Hagler fight--that hardcore determination. That is the essential tool that keeps the fighter mentally focused. That's what made Marciano an exceptional fighter. Marciano trained harder than any fighter. He was built like a middleweight rather than a heavyweight. Also, Marciano had a bad back. However, Marciano took hard punches but he kept moving, taking the sting off many of the punches. I hear all the time that those fighters were old. Joe Louis was 37 when he fought Marciano and Marciano was 28. Louis had come out of retirement. Marciano was 182 pounds and 5'10; Louis was 6'2 and 212 pounds with 15 years of more boxing experience than Rocky. Louis was a 3-to-1 favorite. It wasn't even close. Marciano destroyed Louis and knocked him through the ropes in the 8th round...a devasting KO. When Marciano fought Jersey Joe Walcott the following year, Walcott outboxed Marciano, even dropping him in the 1st round. Marciano needed a KO to win and when the 13th round came the "Suzie Q" caught the chin of Walcott and lights out. Walcott wasn't a heavyweight champion for long but was the oldest ever to win the belt at 37. Everyone says that Marciano fought aging fighters. True. The top contenders, like Ezzard Charles, Joe Louis, and Walcott were past their prime. But you have to consider that they were the best at the time. Mike Tyson fought an old Larry Holmes in 1988 (Holmes was 38). Holmes went on to defeat younger contenders. Foreman was the oldest heavyweight to win a championship at 45 when he KOed Michael Moore in 1994---20 years after losing the belt to Ali. Hopkins fought and won in his late 40s as did Sugar Ray Robinson, and Archie Moore. In the 1950s, the heavyweights fought 15 rounds and they pressed the action more than today's fighters. So even though Marciano was 9 years younger than Walcot, Louis, Charles, and Moore, Marciano was the smaller fighter, with a lot less boxing experience, and began his career late at 24 years of age. Moreover, Marciano koed all of his opponents when he was champion. Ezzard Charles did go the distance in his first fight that was very close but was koed the in the second fight. So how can a boxer, like Marciano, whose boxing resume began when he was almost a quarter of a century in age, with a bad back, and a small frame, KO the best boxers of his era? Because Marciano had the will to win. When it was apparent that his desire to fight on was losing momentum, Marciano retired at 33. Anyone that says Marciano couldn't beat the younger fighters, then you do not know boxing. The younger fighters were knocked out by the mature boxers until Marciano stepped into the ring. Again, Marciano's will to win was the key to his success. He was the first heavyweight champion to retire undefeated.
Take a fighter like Giacobbe "Jake" LaMotta, who was the Roberto Duran of his
time. But the fight that destroyed him was Sugar Ray Robinson--the last fight. Prior to that he was the most feared middleweight.
One of the best commentators speaks.... That's that
Don’t forget about Vinny Pazienza
Mancini and Gati were born in Argentina.
He was born in 🇮🇹. He boxed out of Canada. This is all on Google

Ciao magic man, great video. Vinny pazienza, vito antuofermo, peter manfredo
Italians are prolly my favorite nation (I'm Polish myself). Hope to see an Italian resurgence in boxing despite their by now improved socioeconomical position in society.
Nice
As a pizza loving boxing fien GA Peach I thoroughly enjoyed this! Paulie, I could listen to you read a phone book! 🥰
Cinderella Man is one of my fav movies

My grandparents were friends with Willie Pep. They lived down street from him (Front ST Hartford CT ) as a kid I sat on the couch with dad every Saturday..wide world of sports ..I begged dad to let me box , he and grandma NO ! You'll end up beat and broke ...they both would say your no Wille PeP or who do you think you are Wille PeP ? It's a shame most people aren't aware how the put some PeP in your step came from .
That's a logical perspective
Willie Pep was as good and as dominant as any other boxer in history.
I'm Italian American... I was pushed into Soccer. Never became a pro but played in the NCAA and some Semi-pro matches.
I can't believe I didn't know Paulie was from Bensonhurst. Old school Bensonhurst representing!
YEAH..I LOVED " BRAVEHEART " TOO
Bene Paulie!
Paulie, don’t forget some mob bosses, too. Vincent “Chin” Gigante of the Genovese family was a professional light heavyweight boxer.
Paulie speaks fluent Italian. Paulie is a bad man. I bet the woman love him.
Tony Canzonieri too much forgotten, was a beast and multiple weight class champ who defeated Kid Chocolate twice
The end of mafia control of boxing and the upward movement into middle class were the two major factors to end participation of Italian-American boxers.
Italian Americans have economic power!💪🤛🇺🇲🇮🇹💰💵💰
@The menace Italians have economic power in Northeast US! I'm sure African Americans have economic power also! JMHO!
@The menace Italians do just fine in economics here in NJ!👍👌🇺🇲🇮🇹
@The menace Yes I understand what you're saying about current Italian fighters! Thanks Menace for replying to me much appreciated!👍👌😉
Like me in Ireland , Paulie you really are the last of a generation....I'm 36 and I got the last of the good hardcore non PC generation here in Ireland, I feel you are the same in regards to Brooklyn Italian Americans...
PC always existed.

Love your knowledge on boxing , truly are a feakin history book of the sport and knowledge of Italian Americans history as well. 👍🥊. One thing I'm getting tired of though is italians being brought up with these new boxing generation fans as not being italian boxers but brought up as white boxers. I never saw it that way. Boxing truly is the greatest sport for those tuff guys of any nationality. Hats off to all
My guess is they got into college once they came out of poverty!
There a Philly heavyweight Sonny Conto. Maybe he can be a Rocky Marciano. But boxing is less American overall. There’s a ton of Eastern Europeans with solid amatuer programs. The UK has a great scene now. The Cubans in the pro game may really change things.
Americans are still strong in boxing
Americans still hold the most belts in boxing and have the most dominant champions and its been that way for 100+ years
Hey surprised you didn’t mention Vito Antuofermo
Vito was strong Italian boxer!💪🥊🇮🇹
Peter manfredo jr is one of my personal favourites and I'm black. I Just liked his grit and determination
Simple, the Italian Mob lost power in boxing. All those fixed fights had yall thinking those Italians were really tough outchea.
You forgot to mention the great champion "ROCKY BALBOA" !!
Pauli, I am a fan of your's because as you I am an Italian American, I grew up in an ethnic neighbothood. If you enjoy reading and want to know what happened to our 'neighborhoods Dr. E. Michel Jones wrote a wonderful book ''The Slaughter of Cities". It wasa no accident.
What are your thoughts on Scardina the Italian welterweight prospect? You thinks he’s gonna inspire a generation of Italian boxers to come
I never been super impressed by Scardina..he has many of the tool he needs but doesn't seem to have the brains to put them together and fight the right fight when he needs to which is why he lost his last fight...which is a shame because it was a very winable fight for him if he was smart about it.
Not just Italian-Americans, but there are almost no Italians world champions or contenders (correct me if I’m wrong.) 1960s early 70s had Nino Benvenuti, Sandro Lopopolo, Alessandro Mazzinghi, Duilio Loi. Now, it’s rare too seem then
Paulie ma di che parte sei della Sicilia ?

Honorable mention for Vito Antuofermo
Vito was tough Italian! Strong physique but not big puncher!💪🏋️🥊🇮🇹
If the success of boxing is related to socioeconomic standards, then we would expect more great fighters from places like India and China.
Yeah but that was never in their culture to begin with…
Italian American were doing boxing when like Paulie said it was the most popular 30-50’s in America that’s why.
@@yvans. Nah bro, it's like saying it's not in every one else's culture to run the 100m dash; because it's always won, at the highest level by athletes of West African descent.
Everyone knows there was a color line in all the major sports. Once Black athletes got access; other people, like Italians, fast went to "never in their culture". Paulie knows the truth; and I'm sure you do too, lol.

Boxing is a poor man's sport. The reason you don't see Irish, Italian, and Jewish boxers in America anymore like you did in the old days is because they moved up socioeconomically and are "white" now.
Nobody wants to get there head punched in unless it’s a dire financial situation. Italians literally and figuratively fought there way out of poverty. Amazing champs and even more amazing people. :)

Would be awesome to see Italian boxers come back up to fight the best mexican boxers would bring huge crowds and money
I have followed boxing since listening to Rocky Marciano fight Ezzard Charles in the radio ! I will say this that Paulie Malignaggi was the BEST and MOST HONEST Boxing color man on tv. I understood exactly what he meant by the Russians becoming more dominate in Boxing. As he said , Boxing is a matter of economics . Meaning there are MORE avenues for Blacks today than sports or entertainment. His remarks WERE NOT RACIST AT ALL , JUST THE TRUTH ! i REALLY LIKED Paulie's insights from a boxers point of view on PINK PANTY SHOWTIME. Now all I hear is the same old crap I CAN SEE leke "he needs to get the jab going " or "work the body more " , PATHETIC ! This is one fan that misses you because you were THE BEST !!!!
Nicolino Locche was Argentinian/ Italian he should be on the list among Italians
