The sad thing? My dad & his buddy used to build & race BB/GD's w/cast iron 392ci Hemi's that ran low 7's at around 180mph in the 1/4. That was in the late 60's early 70's. I rode in the push truck & hung around the garage as a kid. I miss the old days.
Boen and raised in Columbia, Pa. the home of CHARLIE HILL, knew him very well...I remember his AA/FA the BAD HABIT FIAT!! Sad that the old days are gone. What ever happened to that car?? The fasted AA/FA on the east coast!!
I am about good and damn ready to lose some of my hearing again down at our local track. I am also pissed off that the sub woofer connected to our computer took a crap. I am not winning here ....hehe... Great video!!!
Great video. Was hoping to see an opel GT used to be a few tf/altered's back in the day. These appear to be nostalgia car's w/single magneto's. That track looks rough and short'lol and a ton of fun. Thank you for posting
Fuel is shorthand for nitromethane, as in "Top Fuel Dragster - TFD," vs. "Top Alcohol Dragster - TAD". The title says "Blown Fuel Altereds" but the lack of header flame looks like alcohol instead of nitromethane is being burned.
I have been to many of the Fuel Altered races and it has been my experience that they do run nitro but at much lower concentration. Unlike full on nitro cars that run a max off 90% nitro, nhra rules. These guys typically run around 60% nitro. Still lots of power less likely to grenade that giant engine that is right in front of there face. Also a few guys do run the full 90% nitro because when they run the announcers make a big deal of it. Listen to nitro vs alcohol engines. Nitro engines make a much more pronounced crackle.
Hey - interesting to know. I had my bedroom walls covered in car pix from Hot Rod and Car Craft, and the one I kept and framed was a black Hemi Topolino. Always wanted to see an Altered race.
Campaigned a AA/FA from 66 to 71 the 90inch wheel base cars are totally unpredictable and dangerous. I am 70 years old and you could not strap me in one for no money. Most of the AA/FA went to Australia when the NHRA banned them. Must say when I was 20 I was living the dream going all over the US racing at the Nationals against the likes of Wild Willy & Charlie Bang
Quit your crying about the 1/8 mile. There are alot more 1/8 mile tracks than 1/4 mile tracks out there for working class guys to go to on friday nights
Zephyr The Geek I did see one or two that had flames coming out but not as pronounced as today's top fuel cars. But I agree it sounded like most were running on alcohol. One day when I watch the video again I will point out the scene where I saw some flames when it was night.
+cory holcomb lol how much hp you making them because these dragsters should be going way faster if they made as much as a radial car does. And you have bigger tires. Getting the power down shouldn't be that hard
doesn't look like any one hooks. radial tire street cars have come along way shit the okc "fire bird" ran 3.99 witch i believe was a 1/8th mile record set in the 90s during a 1.4 mile top-fuel race when a clutch engaged too fast and by dumb luck the track held it. i dont think those guys have the fancy traction control computers like the "street" tire guys.
Hey - one of my toy cars is named "Low Drag"! lh3.googleusercontent.com/-gyRWpEkpTuw/V2BkgmQeUTI/AAAAAAAApK4/HJvXYmkGAbUYN5EmYUYOTljzHFaUSpZEwCCo/s912/100_7161.JPG
I guess I will stick to " nostalgia " F/A , front distributer hemi's just don't look right in these. And dual front dist's are a re-bodied modern funny car. Do 300 with a Donovan , or an iron block 392 for a real number.
not taking anything from you guys you definitely have some of the fastest cars on a 1/8th mile drag strip but you can't say cars that run 3.80s at over 200mph on drag radials and no wheelie bars don't have anything on you.
Just say no more gop ever just because more 1/8th mile tracks for people to go to,1/4 mile has more rules as well.e.g.150 mph or faster needs some laundry in 1/4 mi.
Why must it be 1320 feet why not 1350 feet or 1000 feet like the NHRA tracks are now. Plus I have seen cars go 200+ in a 1/8 mile. You are not impressed by a car getting to 200 mph in 720 feet.
Fuel Altereds, my favorite. Guard rail to guard rail in 6 seconds flat. But that was on a real 1/4 mile strip.

I wish we had more Fuel Altereds here in Canada, my favorite class.
altered never die they are the back bone of this sport .
Kudos and hats off to all of you. It is soooo good I can smell the Nitro from my home in Quebec... that's in Canada
The sound from Finish Line videos is awesome...
These altered are down at Rogersville, MO. Not bad for a 660ft strip.
that blower whine ... Yum
My favorite class!!! Just awsome!!!

Always love your vids, thanks mate.

Great video!!!

5:00 the sound of that font engine dragster tho😁👍👍

The black car in the right lane at 2:00 I swear that is the same car that runs here in Alaska.
My personal opinion is that you gotta have BIG OLE brass ones to run Altereds.
dragster was doing the Bunny Hop stop
Kenny Galloway ค
That Yellow Altered is a bad Bitch!
Hell yeah HILLBILLY bring on the freakshow! Love these mad looking things.
Brings back "Swamp Rat" memories.

Yeah those aren't nitro cars. They would be running faster
You know you can use a "blower" (supercharger) and still use gasoline, right? Nitromethane is VERY expensive beats the snot out of motors.
+Richard Darlington you can't make horsepower like that with gasoline without hurting shit. Besides. Look at the cars. No radiators. They're alcohol

that one was getting some air under the rear tires
On the first drag race the red dragster had at the front , Alfa Romeo wheels
que CHILOS👑😮 SON LOS REYES DE LAS CARRERAS

My friend is crippled from crashing an altered
Fuel altereds forever!!
how long is the shut down because they dont let them have it
Quit your crying about the 1/8 mile. There are alot more 1/8 mile tracks than 1/4 mile tracks out there for working class guys to go to on friday nights
Are some running nitromethane and some running other high octane drag fuels?
Probably alcohol due to no radiator and lack of flames out of the headers
Zephyr The Geek I did see one or two that had flames coming out but not as pronounced as today's top fuel cars. But I agree it sounded like most were running on alcohol. One day when I watch the video again I will point out the scene where I saw some flames when it was night.
+wackomanx alcohol will still flame but if you not 6 foot flames like nitro does
Oh yeah they were probably running them rich which caused the flames
I'm new to drag racing, what do the numbers on the billboards mean
time and mile per hour.
That was really cool . 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃👍👍👍👍👍👍🏎🏎🏎🏎🏎🏎🏎🏎 👌👌👌👌👌👌 jag uk
Man I miss being at the track
I'm sorry but the sling-shot dragsters are not a Fuel Altered! It is a dragster, a front wheel dragster but a dragster!
My uncle is good friends with a guy who owns one of these known as Orange Crush
😎😎😃😃👍🏼👍🏼🇺🇲🇺🇲 old school cool
How do these guys pay there bills. There are more people working the track than there spectators
A 4.20 in the 1/8 is like a 6.7 in the 1/4
Hate to say it but these are some the slowest fuel altereds I've ever seen
Yep, but, I'm sooo grateful for this vid
almost as fast as a drag radial car.
almost lol
yes
They don't make near as much hp as a rad radial car lol. Shows you how much weight can hold you back in drag racing
+cory holcomb lol how much hp you making them because these dragsters should be going way faster if they made as much as a radial car does. And you have bigger tires. Getting the power down shouldn't be that hard

Is that fuel, or alcohol?
Alcohol is fuel, maybe you're not asking the right question.
Sounds like the crackle of nitromethane.
no nitro flames ... my guess is Alcohol

cackle fest in motion,lol

There SHE IS....
nice
Mate, this is the shit.. Fuck that twin turbo, small tire shit..!!!
Some of these cars sound and appear to be alcohol cars.
Is this 1/4 mile?
I think it's 1/8 mile, The track is cut off
hi
cool
Not one honest to god actual fuel altered car in that whole video.
not taking anything from you guys you definitely have some of the fastest cars on a 1/8th mile drag strip but you can't say cars that run 3.80s at over 200mph on drag radials and no wheelie bars don't have anything on you.

Not much fuel in this group...
Again with the 1/8 mile crap.

Really tired of these guys who buy old funny car chassis and throw a "nostalgia" body on it .
why?
Greg Miller Alfred Lukasek wud rather watch the Force n Pedregon show.
WTF is with all this 1/8 mile crap?!!
