In this Bose SoundLink Mini 2 troubleshooting guide, I would like to help those ones who have problems with their SoundLink Mini 2 speakers.
These steps can help you in case of various problems for example if your speaker does not turn on or if it is not charging.
    - The speaker does not turn on when using battery
The most common problem is that the speaker does not turn on.
Surprisingly, in the most cases, it is not caused by a problem but the speaker is designed in this way.
The SoundLink Mini 2 has a so-called battery protection mode, which means if it is disconnected from the AC power and unused for at least 14 days it enters into this mode to preserve battery power.
In this case, you have to connect it to AC power and turn it on to reactivate the speaker, after that you can remove it from the charging cable
    - The speaker does not charge or does not turn on when connected to AC power
If the following steps do not help and you still cannot turn the speaker on or it is not charging, then first make sure you are charging it with its own Bose charger.
If it still does not work, then you can try to reboot its internal processor.
You can do this by temporarily putting the speaker into “Ship mode”, this does not erase any settings of the speaker.
You can do it in the following way:
    1. Connect the speaker to power.
    2. Press and hold the ‘Multi-function’ (three dots) button for 10 seconds.
    3. While continuing to hold the ‘Multi-function’ button, unplug the speaker from power.
    4. Release the ‘Multi-function’ button.
    5. After that connect it to power and charge for at least 1 hour.
    - Reset the Bose SoundLink Mini 2
If none of the steps above solved your problem, you can try to set the speaker back to the factory defaults.
These steps erase the settings of the speaker and return the original factory settings.
You can do it in the following way:
    1. Power the speaker on.
    2. Press and hold the ‘Power’ button for ten seconds.
    - Update the speaker
By updating the firmware of the speaker, you can solve several issues and eliminate known software bugs.
You can check my video guide about how to update the Bose SoundLink Mini 2: • How to update the Bose...

The very 1st step worked for mine. Have had mine for a few years & hadn't used it for a month or so. Was about to buy another until I checked RUclips & came across this. Felt like an idiot! Didn't even know it had a charge port on the side. 🙃

Thank you very much! It works for me. My soundlink mini II didn't charge, the battery LED turns on for 2-3s then turns off. So I maintain the central button until AUX lamp turns on then unplug the power.
    Now it's charging, youpi!

    Here's how I fixed mine:
    1. download the BOSE software updater
    2. Connect speaker to pc, with the updater page open.
    3. If your speaker needs an update, do so. If it is already up-to-date, hold the keys A, S, D, up, down. This gives you advanced mode in the updater. You need to change the language, then click update/apply. Wait until it's finished, then you can change the language back. Worked for me.
This problem is caused by not using the provided charger with the speaker.

      Here’s how I fixed mine:
      1. I had a blinking red light above the power button on my SoundLink Mini. None of the functions worked and it would not charge.
      2. I held the multifunction button down for 10 seconds, the blinking red light changed to blinking amber, I removed power while still holding down the multifunction button, but it did not fix the problem. Note that no other lights began blinking before I removed power and released the multifunction button.
      3. I downloaded the BOSE software updater.
      4. I launched BOSE updater and followed the prompts
      5. The website said my speaker was up to date.
      6. I entered “Advanced Mode” on the updater. Note there is nothing on the webpage that suggests this option. Here’s how I did it: on my keyboard I selected Caps Lock and then I pressed “A” and released, pressed “D” and released, pressed “V” and released, pressed the Up Arrow and released, and pressed the Down Arrow and released. My screen went to advanced mode and displayed a green update button. I clicked on the green button, and then it started to apply or re-apply the previous update. As the update status bar progressed from 0-100%, my speaker beeped a few times and some lights changed/flashed/blinked.
      7. Once it reached 100%, I disconnected the speaker from my computer and all appears to be working correctly now.

As for me? Mine wouldn't turn on after not being used for a while, even though 80% chargd. I didn't realise about the battery auto-sleep shipping mode after 14 days of inactivity. Now I can relax, knowing mine isn't broken. Excellent video. Thank you Speaker Fanatic.

Thank you! After turning on the device and realizing it needed to be charged, I plugged in the charger and a LOUD CRACK [distortion] came from the speaker - and it got stuck in powered on mode, without any sound, and could neither charge or power off. Your second solution, with the multi-function button, worked for me (after scouring the internet and only finding the same "hold the power button" solution everywhere). So THANK YOU once again! Life saver!

Thanks, second option works for us. For us, when the speaker was connected to the charger, the charging led used to blink for 2 - 3 seconds and then turn off. The speaker would not charge at all in this case. Followed your troubleshoot step by connecting the charger, holding multi-function key for few seconds, the leds start blinking, disconnected the charger cable and released the key and everything is back to normal now. The speaker is now charging.

Man, this video has helped me out in the past but now my Soundlink seems totally screwed! When I plug the power cord into the speaker the "charging up" sound plays, immediately followed by the "unplugged" sound - so in other words, for a brief moment it recognises there's a power cable in there, but won't actually charge. Have tried all these steps and nothing has fixed it, and this is already after I'd sent it to Bose for repairs on an earlier occasion! Maybe time to invest in a new one.

I have tried your tips on my Mini 2. Issue was when attempting to charge, sound of detecting a power source would be played but orange blinking light signifying charging would not stay. Device would constantly get discharged. Thankfully, I have left some juice in before returning it to a retailer. Factory reset by holding the power button seems to help. Device is charging now. Please can you say how you rebooted the device processor? I just ordered one and I'm scared coz its not listed on Bose site anymore and I want to use it with AUX to connect a MP3 by cable as my MP3 doesn't have wifi. Yes I'm a tech dinosaur but I have what I have so please bear with me. There seems to be comments around issues with using this with AUX gee why did I only see that AFTER I pressed pay.
Any tips would be most welcome thanks

Fantastic! Thank you so much for putting this video out. Saved me a whole lotta trouble which would have been for nothing (since there wasn't any issue). Thank you again!

good instructions, learned a lot, yet did not fix the solid red light. Briefly flashes the yellow light when connecting to power - and the stays on solid red - and only consumes 22mA from a charger much stronger. --> not charging the battery
