Glad you reviewed these. Agree that I don't want $120 tied up in this type of tool. See the "Columbia River CRKT 9911 Joe Wu Hex Bit Driver Tool Roll" for around $45 which contains a CRKT brass driver similar in design, or just the brass driver by itself "Columbia River CRKT 9911-2 Hex Bit Driver Tool - Brass" for $19 plus shipping.
FYI.... Scout occasionally sells their 2nds/scratch and dents, under the "Wabi-Sabi" monicker. They just released some and they were $45 each. If there were any flaws, I'm unable to see them. They DO sell out quickly. Subscribe to their page and stay alert for the sale. After servicing several folders with the driver, I will say, these are a GREAT bit driver for knives.
I’ve bought the CRKT driver that is similar to your brass driver. It cost $35AUS with no bits. I haven’t got it yet, I’m also waiting on a aluminium CRKT torx tool with Wiha bits In the head. It’s a stubby type driver. I also bought the Wiha micro bit set. All bases are covered I think,
Nick...I bought two Scout Leather Tool drivers each with leather roll up and set of Wiha bits. One flamed titanium, one copper $250.00 for the set.. Now I have two incredibly beautiful roll-ups, stay organized and have drivers that just work better in the hand than others on my expensive knives. Every time I open them I smile. They were worth the price to me.:-)
Did you try removing the shield on the bearing? It looks like they're probably packed with grease, hence not spinning so freely (think ikbs filled with bicycle bearing grease instead of nano oil). It looks like the shields can be removed, I imagine if you do and degrease it, it'll spin more freely and "impressively". You could add oil too if you wanted.
I’d go with the ti version brass and copper will develop a nice patina but are both soft metals and imagine the bits will end up fitting loose once it’s worn, probably minimum but still!
As an auto technician I have a very bias opinion due to the fact that I’m used to tool brands like snap-on and Mac which are CRAZY money. So to me the price isn’t that out of line, but I can totally see why most people will think so. I didn’t choose to buy the pair, instead I bought the brass driver with the leather tool roll and then ordered the bits I wanted from Wiha. It’s become a valued part of my EDC. As always, thanks for the review!
I was pretty happy with mine, because I got a "scratch & dent" for like $30 and it was flawless in every way. No discernible scratches or dents at all!
Great review! I’ve had one of these. But I finally snagged a Fellhoelter Screw-it! I sold the Scout set ASAP. There was no comparison between the two drivers and both use the same bits. You’re right, though. If you’re goal is value, stick with the basics! Thanks, Nick!
$80 would be pushing it for a price that seems reasonable but I I would expect way more bits. And actually need them every day. My Leatherman + bit kit is perfect for my needs. Neat regardless Nick, and if you do keep them I wouldn't think less of you one bit, we like what we like and there's nothing wrong with finding joy where we can.
Go to a site called “DROP” right now they have them for $60, the way the site works is they get a bunch of purchasers all agree to buy it and once the reach the threshold (like 300 or 1000 purchases) then they will sell them in bulk to DROP [the manufacturer] then DROP ships them to you. If the threshold isn’t reached, they release the money to you
A 120$ bucks for two beatiful drivers???😱😱 I bought 2 WIHA bit sets years ago and two drivers for 60£. One high torque driver and one normal, still going strong, even though they are not so beatiful...
As someone who will overpay for almost anything, I still balk at shelling out $120 for two of these things. If I could get just the copper one and a bit set for $60, then maybe.
I'd go ahead and use them for disassemblies anyway. I mean, you bought them. Might as well. People use stuff they wouldn't particularly recommend all the time. I don't think I'd recommend my car, but I'm driving it. Those drivers work, they fit your hands nicely, and they're pretty......and your fiscal damage is already done. Just means you won't have to update your disassembly tools video.
It has, I have one. It's a bit of a bulky handle though not the same as the Scout Leather ones. Not that I would buy the Scout Leather ones. They are over priced, heavily.
As a machinist, those look like something that a CNC lathe could churn out at about 2 minutes per piece from raw stock. Then just friction fit the run-of-the-mill bearing and the magnetic insert and you're done. It's very similar in design to stuff I did back in school, and there's certainly nothing about them that would warrant the 120$ price tag for a pair, except the company trying to use the price as a marketing tactic to make them feel more valuable than they are. It's possible they had to do something weird to get the hexagonal hole that causes a lot of work, but even then I don't really know why the pricetag would be worth it.
Every month I deal with buyers that make your same points as you do. Never in my 15 years of working in engineering have I heard a seller/maker say the same thing. I mean, would I sell it for less than $60 if I am only going to produce 10,000 of these? No. Would I buy it for that much? I would if I needed a low torque driver with bearings on that size . I am not a machinist and this is not something I could make from start to finish under 2 hours on a cnc machine (a $60k tool which I don't have). If you are pricing your labor this way, you are underselling yourself, mate.
Look up tactical keychains on Instagram, his site is down but he'll open it when he builds up some stock. He makes one of these for about 50 to 75, I can't remember
Hey Nick do you have a phone number for this company? I ordered one of the bit drivers and it was in there minor defects on sale no returns all sales final blah blah blah category, and I got a notification from the post office that it was not delivered because the address I gave does not exist. The address I gave is where I work which obviously gets mail there for it obviously exists. I emailed the company but after 4 days no response. Suggestions? Thank you in advance Nick
I'm pragmatic when it comes to my tools. buy a wera or wiha driver set and you will never need another. Oh, and bronze and copper oxidation makes your hands smell bad.
Woo. Always wanted one of these. It’s true. They should have give you 2 sets. When I got my wiha I almost throw out old chinese one but having 2 sets is necessary at times. For that price they could have given you as that’s not the most expensive parts. They look great for EDC Instagram shots and I guess that’s what you’re paying for. Xiaomi has some nice wiha sets now for really cheap. Even boker has a short torx tool that is made by wiha. One of the best bang for buck.
Yes. Should include two bit sets. But if you’re a knife mechanic, you must be a knife guy. In that case $125 is the price of a not too great knife. Go for it! Or wait for the flamed copper set! They will make you happy.
Also the fact that these guys can’t respond to multiple emails about orders placed.. I’d got with an Amazon or eBay’s set. These guys overly priced for legit no good reason!

The Crkt is the same design (scout design) but produced in bigger quantity, less quality control and made in china.
(From what i’ve heard)
You lost me at $120. I’ll put that money towards a new knife instead.
Exactly, I will keep me 20 dollar driver set. I refuse to spend more on tools then the value of my knife.
Jamari and Dennis are bullshit scammers. Incase that wasn't obvious.
I really need these $120 drivers for the disassembly of my $12 pocket knife.
Kc tool makes a descent knife maintenance kit. Put together by the maker of sheep dog knives

I've never used these drivers but the bearing end doesn't look like it fits the hand very well. That end should be convex.
I'm here 4 years later, lol. I purchased the CRKT version for around $19. I wonder what the difference is, as they look exactly the same 🤔
I’d go with the ti version brass and copper will develop a nice patina but are both soft metals and imagine the bits will end up fitting loose once it’s worn, probably minimum but still!

I picked up the $20 CRKT version. Good enough for me and already had plenty of bits.
I picked up the Eklind precision torx set t3-t20 and some security torx bits that can be used in any driver
I was pretty happy with mine, because I got a "scratch & dent" for like $30 and it was flawless in every way. No discernible scratches or dents at all!
HOW did you get a 2nd?
Didn't see where they offered them.
Received mine 2 days ago and yes it’s expensive but worth it if you have knives.
Well it's better then a "Swiss army knife that hopefully has a screwdriver."
TheKillerKlok I understood that reference.
I can’t even afford a $120 knife 😂
Great review! I’ve had one of these. But I finally snagged a Fellhoelter Screw-it! I sold the Scout set ASAP. There was no comparison between the two drivers and both use the same bits. You’re right, though. If you’re goal is value, stick with the basics! Thanks, Nick!
I bought my Scout Brass Driver for $22.49 delivered from Massdrop using a $20 credit, so it is worth it!!
Where did you get that fidget spinner driver?? Lol
Nick , .... I trust in you !
PRACTICAL , ... every time .
$80 would be pushing it for a price that seems reasonable but I I would expect way more bits.

what was that blue driver that showed on screen for a second

Ifixit also has a aluminum 1/4 driver for 14.95

I’ve been using the broker wiha driver and it awesome the bits are in the top of the driver is 25$
The bearings look like an afterthought
There are smaller bearings to use on these handles
What no disassembly video?
He would over lube the bearings.
So does anyone know of any alternatives to these? Especially for the 4 mm bits. I can only find the ifixit and the wiha driver.

What about the Wiha Xiaomi collaboration? It’s awesome! Please review!!’n
It also strikes me they didn’t go crazy for the price. If you’re gonna go luxury item, why not go full luxury?
saved me some money! you're the best Nick
I agree. You can get a pretty nice knife for 120 bucks.
What driver is that? Alexander who???
Does Alexander sell those on a website?
Alas, no. They're still working on distribution.
Any ideas how much they'll cost us?
Nope. That's why I'm waiting on the review
7 months later, where’s Alexander at with things?
Nick is that an affiliate link or just direct link?
You didn't put loctite back on that knife
65 for one , 80 one with bits , or 120 for set
please review audacious concept tools anso.. master!
Thanks Nick.. 👍👍👍
Yeah I can't do 120 . 50 -60 maybe 75 at a stretch.
Look up tactical keychains on Instagram, his site is down but he'll open it when he builds up some stock. He makes one of these for about 50 to 75, I can't remember
For $120 they should include an hour at Mustang Ranch. : )
Nice design for chess pieces, really.

?
Try paying $375 for one bit driver without any bits from burn custom knives
I'll stick with the Wiha bits and aluminum ifixit driver.
I'm pragmatic when it comes to my tools. buy a wera or wiha driver set and you will never need another. Oh, and bronze and copper oxidation makes your hands smell bad.

Hell no, that's a bit steep for a bit driver. Way too rich for my blood
i got the zr.
My $7 Walmart set works just fine $120 is ridiculous
Nick a great review. And I agree not worth the money.
You boushwaa bastard. Lmaoooo. Great video nick. I like them. I have 3. Lol
They look nice for $120 not for me on my current budget... if I had a bigger budget tho I would totally look into them, maybe lol
I really thought it was ratcheting. Good ratcheting drivers are hard to find. These guys are too expensive to not have ratcheting function.
At least they could have included two T6's and two T8's. Let's be real, you ain't stripping any PH2 bits with this tiny precision tool.
crkt hex bit driver is exactly the same thing for 20 dollars
First/ I've been looking at getting these and I am glad to see a review from you.
These are so cool! Mine are coming today.
Yes. Should include two bit sets. But if you’re a knife mechanic, you must be a knife guy. In that case $125 is the price of a not too great knife. Go for it! Or wait for the flamed copper set! They will make you happy.
Awe shit I invented this last night... Guess I didn't
Nice tool!😊
Way to high for a screw driver and bits.
Nick , maybe if you bought the one in a metal less expensive than gold, you can pay less than $120 total
Neither of these a gold. That's brass.
I'm not making fun of your stutter, but together with the East Coast accent, you kind of sound like Bugs Bunny.
damn you!!! now i have to get one...
Also the fact that these guys can’t respond to multiple emails about orders placed.. I’d got with an Amazon or eBay’s set. These guys overly priced for legit no good reason!
“fidget spinnery”. Love it
This feeds my copper fetish for the day... Gotta have it!
Friendly reminder DO NOT GET INTO WATCHES 😂
Anyone who buys these has way too much disposable income.. There are charities which deserve donations,,,
Nuff said,,,
Notworth the money
