You should probably say the filter needs to be between the tank and the selector valve. Older Chevrolets have a mechanical fuel pump on the block pulling the fuel through the valve from the tank.
Hey John, This FSv2K is a universal kit...so it is going to look different than anything that you currently have on your truck. Mike Becker, Senior Technical Instructor
this will actually bold directly onto a 1987 chevy silverado with factory dual tanks and tbi this is actually what i bough to replace mine when it went bad
I have a 1947 Chevy truck . the truck gets about 7 mpg. I have a stock fuel tank but added a 5 gallon fuel cell in the back. I want to add the fuel switch to go between the two tanks for longer trips. lets see if I can figure this out
Hey the video did help but I have one question my vehicle has two 20gal tanks on either side of the vehicle both of them run to the same pump would this at all change the installation (neither tank is labeled as auxiliary or main or any other indication) and after I've hooked up the new valve the universal one looks just like the stock one that's on it... I'm gonna have to label the switch because I'm gonna forget which switch position goes to which tank so how would I tell... 1985 Chevrolet C10
Hey Frank, sounds like you'll either have to trace the wires or fill one tank up, leave the other empty to determine which is which on the switch. Mike Becker, Senior Technical Instructor
Ok I kinda figured and also I did more looking and the wire that comes out of slot a on the pigtail is going to the tank on the left it's still bent into shape but it isn't attached and I haven't yet figured out a way to reattach it to the gage sending unit without removing something else which is probably why the tank switch isn't working
After hours of troubleshooting and being stranded overnight in my 86 f250 6.9 idi dual tank I found that this was the culprit. My question is I completely disassembled the oem part and found the motor to be bad. I noticed though that when I rotated the stud that when the back tank was in use it was only drawing from the back tank however when in postion for the front tank it also left the port for the back tank open. Is that normal or a flaw in the old unit? I have ordered this exact part and am very confident with the help of this video and knowledge of electrical to install on my own. But it would seem to me if this part did the exact think when running on the front tank my return line would be also be robbing from the front and filling the rear. Any thoughts or insight on this?
Thx for he video. I think in my case a 1990 F-150. It will be easier but more expensive replacing the fuel tank reservoir switch assembly. If I can't locate part from wrecker I'll just have to shell out $200+ for a genuine replacement part.
Every time I put gas in my rear tank, my front tank gets full. Right now, my front tank is so full it's leaking out. This culprit has to be my problem.
Why won't the factory selector switch work? I have a 93 f350 7.3 IDI. The front tank worked fine then when I switch to rear tank it instantly blew a fuse. I guess I'll be wiring in the included switch. Just curious why this won't work with the oem switch?
So I have an 87 Chevy with factory fuel tanks. I understand this valve switches from one tank to the other. My question is, does the signal for the fuel sender also switch from tank to tank?
Hey Cullen, you're correct. This is not a direct replacement valve. It will need to be wired up to the supplied switch. Mike Becker, Technical Services Instructor
hi guys, you are very professional, thank you. can you please tell me where can i buy it and if you know how much will cost. also if this universal kit will work with ford f 250 diesel 1997 ? thank you in advance for your help.
Hey Normando Mata, thanks for watching! Yes, this kit will work on your F250...but it will take some work. As for pricing, check with your local parts store or online. I don't do anything with pricing. Thanks! Mike Becker, Senior Technical Instructor
For those that have the valve still, if you fed the positive line to the return of the front tank with a little pump, no selector valve needed. All you do is you put a bolt in the fuel line for the rear positive line & that’s it. So if you want fuel in the front tank you hit a button or switch, & flit it off when full. Problem solved. A video will be available on MikeJD60 soon.
not one wire is the color you describe, very poor instructions and after spending a fortune in extra parts, should just buy fords overpriced selector valve as it would have been cheaper and no frustration, looses
Rob, sorry you are having a hard time. Wire color will vary with every vehicle. If you need any further help with it please call our techline number at 1800-558-9770. Thanks! Mike Becker, Senior Technical Instructor

i can not find where to find the one that is on my truck now so this is a lifesaver thank you

Ok quick question..... Where can I find a fuel selector valve that has 6 ports with the metal pokey thing that's not the plastic?
What kind of pressure can i push through this?
Can I start engine without pluging in selector valve?
Nice explanation and video!
Hey Bob, thanks for watching!

Great to know! Thanks for watching.

That's what I'm trying to do now. After you took the cover off and unhooked the hoses how did you get it off the frame?
So the wiring is the same?
@@SteveGrin I think the wiring is the same... gonna try it on my 85 C10
When you switch tanks how do you feed gauge of fuel in tank to know how much fuel is in selected tank. Another toggle??

Maybe add a link to the kit in the description since your site search can't seem to find the kit by part number.

Matt, that doesn't seem normal. I don't believe these are intended to cross fill tanks.

will the gauge still work
I have a 1979 k20 chevy pick up..and my fule selector has one wire on it? Am i have to rewire my fule selector?
This is a universal part. Yes, you will have to rewire the selector and add a new switch.

Couldn’t you just put a switch onto each ground for the pump and run a Y connection?

Hi, this valve will work with the oem switch 411, or need other switch, by the way is for 86 chevy c10
Hi Carlos, the 411 is just a pigtail. it's not a switch. If you buy the FSV2K it comes with the switch.

Hey Josh, yes it would switch the gauge over to whichever sender is currently being used. Great question!

How do you order this?
so the main front and rear switch will NOT work withthis valve ???
Hey Cullen, you're correct. This is not a direct replacement valve. It will need to be wired up to the supplied switch.
