  • Thai Mangoes are absolutely incredible. Sweet, smooth and juicy!
In this video, I show off five different varieties of Thai Mangoes.
Here's a little about each variety:
Mun kun si (Bahn kun si): Smooth, sweet mango with a slight musk taste and a small seed.
Okrung- sweet and said to be fragrant when ripe.
Pime Same- sweet and sour, need to give it a try to see for myself.
Nam Doc Mai- really sweet and smooth, a highly sought after Thai variety.
Thong Dam (Black Gold)- sweet and complex, fragrant by the stem, overall tremendous flavor.

That’s awesome Clive! I haven’t heard of Ahi Toy and like you couldn’t find anything about it. Any chance you can contact the seller? I’d love to know more about that mango too! Thai mangoes are excellent.

funny story, about 20 odd years ago, did a fruit culture course with a smart fella who worked with the team who developed Pink Lady and Sundowner apples. anyhow, he made me aware of Nam Doc Mai. i became desirous of getting one, went to Carnarvon (NW WA) and brought back 2 young trees, but i'm in Perth and i suspect it was too cold for trees on their own roots. This co-coincided with the Asian economic downturn and apparently all the trees were grubbed. Asia was the only market as Aussies seem not to like green mangoes.

a couple of years ago went to Laos via Chang Mai. Saw a woman at a night food market slicing the sides of mangoes and throwing away the middle bit. Yikes i said, that's the best bit causing much amusement from the woman and her friends. I had no Laos and they had no english. turns out they were Nam Doc Mai, (at bloody last!), so every night for a week, i bought 2 slices of mango over sweet sticky rice covered in coconut milk and that was breakfast every morning for a week. But now i have a grafted one of my very own and all me digits a crossed.

Cool stories Clive, thanks for sharing! Have you heard back on that mango yet? Mango with sticky rice is fantastic and I haven’t even been to Asia for it yet! 👍

Tong dam is one of my favorites the other one is aok long.I just left Thailand about four days ago and my last day there before the flight I ate a whole bunch aok long they are very juicy. I am here in South Florida now and mango season is just beginning. I do like mangoes from Florida many varieties. Nam doc Mai is good but I'll take a Carrie or a Haden over a nam doc Mai any day.

HealthyLivinAlex there is a bigger aok long if that's what you're thinking of it is bigger and just as good the same and yes the Glenn mangoes are excellent also.
I have a dwarf carrie tree in the backyard it is full right now but in about a couple of weeks they'll start ripening up in my neighborhood there is Haden,Glenn, Kieth I think I spelled that right and many more varieties all the way up to August there's some late mangos they're very good too.
